"You're going to get onto me for shortening a lovely name while you do the same? I guess that's a superior privilege, getting to be a pot calling a kettle black." A cheeky grin, and he continued to follow her. He nodded when she told him he didn't know - because he didn't. He was fresh, new, out of the pods. How could he know.

<< Whelp, can you hurry this up. You need to learn how to use me properly, and not like a numbskull."

< Just shut it. >

"So, there's at least two different sub divisions, then; Medical and Research. Any more?" He was interested- curious, more accurately - about both. "And...I'll keep that in mind. Is there a safety word to yell if I'm being treated with an experimental cure?" A jest, though laced with a good dose of serious. He'd seen horror movies; you didn't just mix chemicals and pump them into people.

Ami snorted and said, "You'll be too busy screaming." It too was a jest laced with seriousness. More seriousness than jest, in fact.

To his more solemn question, she answered, "There are many, I suppose. Runes specialists- that's what I want to do- weapons creators, doctors, nurses, surgeons-" She looked at Lex someone tiredly. "I think you get it."

She finally took a step away from the door, moving down the hallway. "Two more places then we're done." She made the word "done" sound like it was a pile of cake waiting for her at the end. Ami really hated newbies.

Lex gulped and blinked, before shaking his head ans putting on a bright smile. "So, try not to get hurt, basically. Got it."

The options she was listing sounded very, very intriguing. Weapons creator sounded like it would be incredibly fun, while nurse also tickled his fancy. He really did enjoy taking care of people; pretty, ugly, man, woman, it was just in his nature to care.

He would have tried to give Ami some care, but...well, you didn't exactly offer a cup of coffee and some cookies to a person who had recently threatened to blow your brains out. You had to at least wait a week for that.

"Alright, we should zip through those then, so I can get out of your hair - which is quite the pretty shade of strawberry blonde, if I might add."

"Don't start," Ami scolded, based on the compliments. She hated flirty boys most of all- too much like Adam. At least it wasn't directly perverted, like Dakota, but she knew his type. Subtle comments based on physical appearance and nothing else. Idiot girls fell for them all the time. "I ... have someone I like." A sad expression crossed her face. That was the best way she could put it, for now.

This Lex fellow was certainly hard for Ami to dissect. She could usually sort people into two groups quite easily. One type was likeable, and the other one wasn't. There was never an in between for her. Simple yes or no; Lex kept flopping between the two. One minute he was a gentleman the next she wanted to slap him.

They made their way to the weapon's creation rooms. Big empty rooms, meant for containing specimens. They'd be moved into the machinery if they chose to. That was the tricky part; weapons had to be willing.

She checked a clipboard on the wall, flipping through the schedule. She sighed and put it back. "No weaponizations today it seems. Sorry, they're usually interesting to watch." At least, interesting to Ami. Interesting to someone without an ounce of compassion for the creatures. "This is where we keep specimens until we weaponize them. We put a special code in runes on the weapons, and then link it to our computer databases," she explained calmly. "I told you, you'll have to learn them. The only choice you get is how extensively."

"Alright, alright." Lex held up his hands in surrender, still smiling and being jovial. "Really, though, I think you're hair is one of the most lovely shades of strawberry blonde I've seen."

When she seemed sad about liking another person, Lex picked up on it. He knew what was probably going on. "Ah...friendzoned? Sorry to hear that." No flirting this time; people didn't need that kind of thing when they were stuck in the friendzone. Lex had never been there personally, but he'd had college roommates that fell for the first girl that smiled at them.

Upon reaching the weapons conversion room, the man's head was getting a little dizzy with all the info; it was like the first day of a new semester. "Well, maybe I'll get to see one another time, then." It did sound interesting...

It probably hurt.

"So, regarding runes, does everyone in Life have a basic language that they all know, or is it different for each person?" Because if they all had to learn Latin, Lex could totally get himself a study buddy.

Or three.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 16, 2012 3:00 pm

Ami didn't comment on being friendzoned. Was it really friendzoning when she knew from the beginning it would never work? Rather, was it friendzoning if she knew she was a friend from the start?

The language question was much easier. "It's ... more complicated than that. Most are a mix," Ami explained. She pulled out her runic gun once more, this time without malicious intent. She flicked a switch- safety essentially- and tossed it to Lex. If he didn't catch it, she would be madly disappointed. Most newbies had pretty good reflexes- you had to, to survive the island.

"There are three layers of runes on them. Only one you can see- those are outer. Two others, inner and binary." As they walked, Ami pointed to the window, indicating that Lex should look. Through a window, you could see the weapons vault. It was essentially just a room lined with runic weapons, all battle ready and prepared to go. She didn't think it required much explaining apparently. "We can do it all by computers, but you have to know the codes to input."

She tapped her chin, thinking of a way to simplify it for him. "It's ... say a weapon was meant for fire, like a torch. You'd expect to see symbols in all sorts of languages that say "fire." On the other hand, a weapon that was a Valkyrie once would have more Norse symbols or Archaic runes." This was a horrible analogy. "So ... you have all sorts of runes on all sorts of weapons. Sure we have computers that have programs for writing runes, but if you don't know what you're doing, it won't have the right function." She shot him a rare, slim smile. "It's like telling a Chinese man to start a fire in ancient Hebrew."

Lex caught the gun, slightly horrified that she would simply throw the blasted thing what was this girl even thinking. He turned it over and over as they walked and she explained, stopping briefly to look into the weapons vault.

"So, why other weapons? Are the ones we're bonded to not powerful enough for some scenarios?" Regal gave a pretty nasty squawk and feather ruffle, highly insulted by the insinuation that hew wouldn't be good enough at all times.

<< You think it wise to question my power, whelp? >>

< I think it wise to know as much as I can. >

Lex focused back on Ami again, coming in at the part talking about Valkyries and Norse symbols.

<< Just so you know, whelp, I know Norse. >>

< Good for you, I'll need more than that. >

"Oh...okay. So if I was trying to put Egyptian Hieroglyphs on a Doppleganger, it would freak out and not work properly?"
PostPosted: Sun Sep 16, 2012 3:41 pm

Oh come on. Ami had really hoped Lex could figure that much out. She didn't have the patience for those sort of simple questions, ones that even she had probably asked at some point. "Can your weapon light on fire? Shoot nets? Provide shields?" She sighed and added, "What if you can't summon your weapon? What if it lands out of your reach? If you'd use your mind for about two seconds you'd realize the answer to your own question." A sway of her hips and a roll of her eyes and she was back on the move, back to thinking Lex was an imbecile.

She moved back in front of him and plucked the gun from Lex's hands. She put it back in its place, and continued walking, braid swinging. "As for the doppleganger- depends." She was getting a little sick of explaining things that she considered mundane and easy to figure out, so she said, "No more stupid questions."

A sigh. He...probably could have figured that out, actually, if he hadn't only been given seconds to look at the equipment. She thought he was stupid now, which was just great - who didn't want their superiors thinking they were idiots? Absolutely perfect.

<< Haha, she's really nailed you well, whelp. >>

< Seriously, do you ever not talk? >

<< And rob people of my beautiful voice? Never. >>

A sigh and a roll of the eyes, and Lex kept pace with the short woman. "Alright, no more stupid questions."

Silence followed for a while.

More silence.

"Last room, right? Let me guess, doomsday device or something like that? Or is this where you execute all the dumb ones?" A bit of sarcasm had slipped through his normal jovial manner, and he was biting his tongue instantly.

Mouthing off to superiors was bad.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 16, 2012 4:01 pm

"No actually, it's where the dumb ones are made," she said, a complete deadpan expression on her face. Sometimes she really wished they could execute the dumb ones. Unlike Lex, Ami didn't have a scrap of compassion for annoyances.

At the same time, she knew hunters were scarce, and Lex would learn that too. They died off all the time, so they had to keep what they could- even the dumb ones. She just didn't want to scare Lex. Maybe she was a bit (read: very) harsh to newbies, but even she didn't want to expose them to the horrors of hunterdom right off the bat. Best to just let them believe they were entitled to save the world for as long as possible.

"You're pretty familiar with it though, I think. Pod room." She pressed a button on the door and with an automatic whir it opened to reveal the room where every hunter started. "I'll skip over the details, but this is basically where we keep dormant hunters. I know you think you're all rearing to go kill 'all the bad guys'-" She added some sarcastic air quotes, "But if you mess up, don't think they'll hesitate to throw you straight back in here." She scribbled something down in notes and said, "On second thought, I guess you could say we execute idiots here."

She actually did smile at that one.

Lex only rolled his eyes and smirked. Jokes, Ami had them in spades. "Alright, I get it. I'm dumb, you're smart and totally the best when it comes to Life hunter things." He rubbed the back of his neck with one hand, putting the other in his pocket and fingering the ballpoint pen that Regal became when not summoned.

<< Would you stop fingering me, whelp. >>

< Would you stop making me feel worse about myself. >

<< Nope. >>

"Alright, so I mess up and I get put back in the pod. Roger that." He began walking towards to the door, the same one he'd only left yesterday. "This tour is over, right ma'am? I think I need to go get some runic bandages for my ego." There was more more jest than bite in that sentence, Lex made sure. Didn't want to upset this girl any more than she already was.

He did wonder though, why was she so cranky?

<< Probably on her period. >>

< Wait, you actually make jokes? >

<< Rarely. Now get going, whelp, you need more training. >>

Ami scowled at his comment, not appreciating the mocking tone. She'd long since been numbed to sarcastic comments like that, thanks to Dakota and Clerise making them all the ******** time. They weren't funny, and she had better things to do.

When he asked for bandages, she pulled them out of her pocket nonchalantly, and then a bright red covered her face as she realized his jest. Oh. That had been sarcastic.

She couldn't help it, alright. Hunters were asking for bandages and healz from her level 90 staff all the time. It was instinctual at this point. Ami quietly slipped them back into her pocket, hoping Lex hadn't noticed at all. "Tour's over," she muttered.

"..." Lex chuckled before walking out, eyes right where Ami had but the bandages away. Oh man...this was too good. "Thanks for your time, Ma'am." He began to walk out, hands in his coat pockets and looking completely relaxed now that he hand't been the only one to blunder.

<< Please don't tell me you're going to pass this opportunity up, whelp. I know you're thinking it in your head, and it would make you look a little less incompetent if you did it. Not that it would actually make you less incompetent. >>

< Shut your beak. >

Before completely out of the door, the tall man looked over his shoulder, smiled coyly, and gave a final retort. "Thanks for the bandages, but I think you might need them more."

Then he was gone.
