For the briefest of moments, Irene was confused when she ended up on top. That didn't make any sense, unless... Iris was still toying with her. All of this was a game to her. It didn't matter that Irene was really trying, because her best efforts were worth practically nothing.
Realizing that just made Irene redouble her efforts, pummeling Iris' torso with punches that she knew were weak. As long as she stayed angry, as long as she kept at it, she didn't have to admit to herself that this was something she just could not do.
Is that such a bad thing? something inside her asked. Irene ignored it and tried to make her punches land harder, or in more vulnerable places.

Iris' abs were tightened, but even with her own defenses up, hits were still hits and still caused damage! It seemed Irene was being considerate in not punching her face, but she was trying to hit all sorts of tender spots.
"Sh****t, Irene!" she coughed out at one point. "Don't fight angry!"
Definitely a case of the pot calling the kettle black. However, Iris and Ellie knew how to fight. Irene needed to learn.
Eventually, the larger of the pair attempted to sweep over the smaller girl, almost trying to roll her down on the ground under her, almost like trying to pin her like in wrestling.

Was Iris' voice strained, or was she just hearing things? Irene smirked for a moment. Maybe she was being effective after all. Maybe all she needed to do was keep this up, and Iris would have to deal with the pain, for a change.
Is that what you want?
Irene screeched as she was swept underneath her captain. She might have curled into a ball to protect her stomach and minimize the target if she had been thinking clearly. Since she wasn't, she was all but flattened, the breath forced out of her. She struggled, but Iris was bigger and stronger than she was, and she was starting to tire, as the adrenaline started to work its way out of her system.

The blonde kept her hold as tight as she could over the girl, keeping her teammate firmly in place.
As if trying to make conversation while holding the wild and rearing Irene to the ground, she asked "So... if I were t'try and kick yer legs out from under ya... tell me... what sorts'a things could ya do?"
Yes, Sailor Irene was getting quizzed now of all times.

The question only made Irene angrier. Had she learned nothing over the past year? Was she doomed to being the only useless member of her team? Was this Iris' way of reminding her that she couldn't do anything?
Rather than answer, Irene kicked out, trying to get Iris off of her. She had to keep moving, to keep doing something, or else she would have to actually think about the ideas floating through her mind.
It's okay to lose.
No, it wasn't!
She's right. Fighting angry isn't the answer.
It was the only answer she had, the only one she was willing to accept. The alternative wasn't worth thinking about. None of this was worth thinking about. She kicked again, putting all her energy into getting free so she could keep going.

Iris had not shown a serious side during a majority of this exercise, yet now as Irene seemed adamant about getting back up and out of her grasps, Iris seemed to grow more serious. There was a bit of give for a moment or two, but quite harshly, Iris slammed Irene's body against the ground again.
Her tone seemed to almost growl out gruffly "Let's try this again... If I were t'try kicking yer legs out from under ya... what'cha gonna do?"

Enough.
Irene's head hit the ground along with the rest of her, making everything fuzzy for a moment. She lost a grip on her anger, on what she was doing. She didn't even hear Iris repeat her question. When she lost the fury that had been driving at her, she lost her motivation to fight.
If I can't fight angry, I can't fight at all.
If Iris hadn't hit a sore spot, Irene would have tried to find a way through this exercise that didn't involve fighting. She didn't like to fight, so it was hardly surprising that her skill level was sub-par. She didn't like being angry, either. In her rage, she had tried to hurt someone she genuinely cared about, just because her pride had been hurt. Now that she couldn't keep going blindly, she was ashamed of her actions. The only reason she was in this situation was because she hated facing her limitations. If she had done the rational thing and talked it out with Iris, neither of them would be hurting now, or so she believed.
"Enough," she muttered, averting her gaze. She didn't want to look at her captain after that display. "I'm done."

The girl seemed to lose the fire that had been lit under her, but Iris didn't seem to mind. She no longer had to be hostile with how she held the other girl down on the ground. However, that didn't mean she was letting her up. Instead, she shifted casually so it was like she was leaning on her elbow, holding her cheek up.
"Well... ya did a good job... but I still want an answer, Irene." She chuckled a bit before commenting "I take it ya didn't notice... but... makes sense... ya were fightin' angry... so ya probably didn't notice it..."
Casually the blonde seemed to roll off her teammate finally, but poked the girl in the cheek with her pointer finger.

"I won't do that again." Whether Irene meant fighting angry or fighting in general, it was difficult to tell. She was breathing heavily, and even when Iris rolled off her, she didn't make any attempt to get up. After all of that flailing, she was totally exhausted.
Almost as an afterthought, she asked "what 'it' didn't I notice?" There were a thousand and one things she might have guessed, but she was done being forceful, and ready to listen to whatever Iris felt like telling her. It was easier, and much less of a health hazard.

Rather than remain laying on the ground too long, the tomboy pushed herself up into a sitting position, casually reaching some fingers in to muss up Irene's hair a bit.
"Sometimes th'best thing ya can do if ya can't dodge a hit.. like a kick or a punch... is t'go with the flow of the hit. It gives you the control rather than allowing you to be surprised." The first hit Irene made had hit, but Iris had bent forward with the hit, which did significantly reduce the amount of damage she had taken. When Irene had kicked at Iris' leg, she was effectively able to prevent herself from being caught off guard by moving her leg with the motion as well.
With a sigh, she looked up at the night sky. "If ya can learn how t'work with the hits, then ya an actually learn how t'eventually turn those attacks others throw at ya against yer opponents. Use their own forces against them, so t'speak... however..."
There was a pause so she could turn back to Irene again. "...ya know how t'fight, but now ya gotta learn t'not fight angry. Fightin' angry makes it nearly impossible t'use this strategy..."
A chuckle escaped Iris before she had to confess "...that was fun!"

"I see." Irene's voice was flat and listless. What Iris was saying was good advice, particularly for someone who didn't have much in the way of brute strength. If she was able to utilize that strategy, she would probably get hurt a lot less, though she wouldn't be sure that she'd be able to dish out any more damage. Which was the point Wasn't it? Or was it?
At Iris' last words, she shuddered. "No, it wasn't. I hated that. I hate fighting. I mean, I don't mind being in fights, and I want to be useful, but..." Irene stopped and shook her head before looking up at Iris. "I'm sorry. I'll get better at it." Not that she had any real idea how to improve at an activity she hated, good advice aside. She supposed she would have to practice. Somehow.

For a moment, Iris couldn't help but roll her eyes a bit. Irene could be such a Buzz Killington.
"Okay, fine... it was fun fer me..." It wasn't difficult to figure out Iris could be a bit of a brute. Some could assume that she just got a high out of beating folks up. However, a few words drifted out which probably revealed more of what gave her a high during a fight.
"Either way, it's no fun if yer jus' winnin... more fun t'be kept on yer toes!"
Seeming to be over the whole training session, the blonde stood herself up, dusting off her lap, then her a**, then extended a hand to her teammate. "I'll help ya..." The wheels in her head were already turning, and she definitely had an idea as to how to go about assisting her younger teammate with her skills.

For a moment it seemed like Irene was going to argue more. Then she shrugged, and allowed Iris to help her to her feet. "I'm glad that one of us had fun, at least." The exercise wasn't a total loss, then, though privately she hoped that they would be able to entertain themselves less violently next time.
"I'm sorry I wasn't much of a challenge for you." Irene sighed, about to ask if they were finished, when something dark appeared on her internal radar. Chaos. A youma, by the feel of it, and probably not a terribly strong one. Iris could probably take it out with one attack. Or two, she supposed, since without being up close it was hard to gauge power levels for sure.
The easier thing for both of them would be for Irene to let Iris handle it. But they would both be alone if they split up, which would be bad. And, more to the point, Irene would never improve if she didn't keep trying. Taking a deep breath, she turned back to Iris. "Listen, I know you could handle that youma over there by yourself. And I understand that my being there probably won't make a difference. But... could we take it on together?"
As soon as she finished speaking she stepped back instinctively, as if afraid of the response she would receive. Iris wasn't known for being touchy-feely, but maybe, in the right setting...

A smirk was on the captain's face as Irene made her request.
"Well... last I checked... neither one of us is allowed t'patrol alone... right?"
The smirk spread into a grin before she bolted forward. The answer wasn't verbalized, but it seemed that it was expected that Irene would be getting what she asked for.
