Jaromila thought about what to answer, not exactly sure if she could come up with the best reply.
"It is indeed troublesome when the war takes away people that should be taking care of you. Just remember, humans can be good or evil, just like Azrein. It is possible that your father could have been killed by evil men or maybe ones that were defending themselves. Since I do not know what was going through their heads, I cannot really say. I do believe there are kind humans, even if I have not gotten to see them for myself yet. I believe you may find out you care for this new family of your's in time, considering they may have something in common with you. Have you ever asked them if they lost anyone they cared about?"Jaromila asked.

"The man was in pain. From what Serenity has said about bonds... I am assuming his Azrien was lost to the Six. And as a result, killed my father. It is the most logical theory I have, as he did not touch my mother. ... In fact, he fled from her when she cried out. I do not have problems with humans as a whole. Serenity's human partner causes no contempt. However... being around so many at once makes me uneasy. ... Being around many other beings in general makes me uncomfortable."
At her question, he simply gave her an even stare. "We all lost someone. Serenity lost her mate, Ve'ki's brother. The rest of us... would not be with Serenity if we had families to take care of us. But, no. I have not asked. It is a... sensitive subject, after all. Serenity and Ve'ki in particular are trying to overcome their loss. I will not cause them problems by bringing such topics up in conversation."
He thought for a minute before continuing. "Beta... as far as we know, her parents are alive." His eyes narrowed as he stared at the lake. "If they ever show up..." His hooves dug into the sand, the colt going silent as the thought boiled in his mind.
After a few moments, Haides shook his head and looked at Jaromila. "What about you?" His eyes had lost the icy stare that he'd had before, his expression once again filled with that serene calm. "I've told you about me. What about you?" What were her troubles? She had some too, right? Everyone did.

Jaromila nodded her head softly, imagining the man must have lashed out in his pain.
"It seems this man must have been great pain if he did that to your father. I have heard that when a human or Azrein lose their chosen, it can be quite painful. Something along the lines of like being part of each other, but again, I only speak of what I have heard. At least the human partner of your guardian you seem to not mind. Just remember, this mare will make sure no one hurts you. I would also suggest you talk to them, learn what you can from them. I know they are probably healing, but sometimes it is a good idea to try and get an understanding. The Azrein who took you in seems like a nice mare, so I would suggest you give her a chance to be a mother to you,"Jaromila suggested. She saw the anger in the other as he spoke of Beta's parents and she could see he cared.
"From the sounds of it, they will not be returning, since they left her all alone. Do not let anger eat at you for what they did, considering from the sounds of it, she seems quite happy with her new family. If that is so, then that is where she truly belongs,"she smiled. Then she thought about his question about herself and wondered what to say.
"Well, as I said, I have two parents who love each other dearly. Then I have two older half sisters, who I have not had the privilege of meeting yet. Then I have three sisters that are about my age who I have grown up with. So, nothing really extraordinary about me. My sisters are probably looking forward to growing up, but I happen to like spending time with my family being young,"Mila explained.

"That is why I find my theory to be the most logical." Haides sniffed. "A pregnant mare will have difficulties protecting anyone... and bringing up distressing subjects is not something to do around one either. Those types of discussions, if necessary, can wait until after she gives birth."
"With her mother, I wouldn't be so sure." His eyes didn't narrow again, but a frown appeared on his face. "As she told her newborn to wait and left with the older children for an extended period of time." He went silent when Jaromila mentioned their new family being where Beta truly belonged. He wasn't so sure about that.
Haides listened to the filly's explanation of herself attentively. "That sounds... peaceful." His expression didn't really change as he added, "And there's nothing wrong with taking your time to grow up." With how everyone always told him that he was too serious and grown up for his age, it almost seemed like a crime to mature quickly.

Jaromila listened to him and nodded, knowing that being pregnant made some things more difficult, at least that's what she had heard.
"Well, see, you care about what happens to her, so you must care for this mare who has become your mother. If you had not, you would not be so worried about what happens to her. Maybe if you are so worried, maybe help protect her, that way she will be safe. From what you say, she has been through a lot, so maybe it is time you show you care about her and want to help her. Now about Beta, I do not see why any parent would leave a newborn by themselves for an extended period of time. In a time of war such as this, that is an awful idea. Something bad could have happened to the child, that does not show that you care. When my sisters and I were blankets, we were all watched and cared for. Oh and I suppose there is nothing wrong with enjoying growing up slowly,"Jaromila spoke

"I'm simply being considerate." Haides glanced away. "If something happened to her, Beta would be upset. Kalyani would be as well; Serenity and Ve'ki are the only parents she's ever known." His gaze returned to Jaromila when she spoke of Beta's mother. Showing some of the first real emotion since the conversation began, sorrow entered his blue eyes. He looked away, closing his eyes and shivering once. "I... try not to think about it." The colt went silent after that, listening to Jaromila continue to speak but not replying.

Jaromila tilted her head to the side at his first words to her and she smiled softly.
"Are you sure you would not be upset if something happened to Serenity? You say Beta would and Kalyani, but what about you? Would you not care if something were to happen to her? I mean, you must have been pretty young when Serenity found you, maybe she and Ve'ki are the first parents you have gotten to know. Could you possibly be afraid to get too close to them because you are afraid something will happen to them, like happened to your biological parents?"Jaromila asked. She reached over and nuzzled him seeing the sorrow, then backed away a bit.

"I don't know. ...I hope I never find out." Haides sighed and shook his head. "It is... not that simple." Although he didn't spring away or lash out, his eyes shot open and fixed on Jaromila when she nuzzled him. He stared for a moment and then looked away. "I am not afraid of them dying. However... I am worried what an event like that would have on Beta. She is... very unlike me. Losing someone close to her, especially Serenity, her adopted mother..." He trailed off, taking several minutes to find the best words to describe the image in his head. "To her... I imagine it would like losing one's bonded human."

Jaromila looked down, not knowing what had possessed her to nuzzle him like that. However, when he started to talk again, she picked her head back up.
"See, you do not want to find out, that tells me you care more than you are willing to admit. Yes, you may be looking out for Beta, but I think you are worried about it yourself, even if you say you are not. I do not know what it would be like to lose a bonded human, but I do know I would not want to lose my parents. They and my sisters mean the world to me, I do not know what I would do if they died,"Jaromila explained. She didn't like the thought of anything happening to any of her family.

"... Worlds are... funny things. Our perception of them, at least. They can grow or shrink or change through interaction with others." He looked up at the sky. "Extended isolation... could then hypothetically destroy a world. In that sense... at one point, my world ceased to exist. Beta... forced that world back into existence."
He lowered his head to gaze at Jaromila. "I think part of the reason I'm having difficulty with your questions... is because I'm still searching for the answers myself."

Jaromila smiled softly, thinking this young foal had quite a thoughtful mind. She looked at him and nodded her head in agreement, letting him know she thought he had a point.
"Yes, I do believe that our worlds depend a great deal on who were surround ourselves with. Life is quite lonely if you do not have others to travel the world with you. So, it is probably a good thing Beta brought a world back to you, so that you could have a chance to live. Maybe in that thought, it would be best to work on answering those questions for yourself. Interact with others and let them interact with you. You will not be able to answer those questions alone,"Jaromila spoke.

Haides nodded absently, staring into the distance as he immersed himself in his thoughts. This strange filly had given him a lot to think about.
The colt leaned down and took another drink from the lake before turning to face Jaromila completely. He stared silently for several moments, thinking some more before speaking. "... I think they would be surprised if they saw me. I've never talked this much before."

Jaromila looked surprised when the colt admitted that he had not talked this much before. She was actually quite honored that he had felt comfortable enough to talk to her. Her parents had said she was wise and had a gift of being able to get others to talk.
"Well, maybe in a way you thought you needed to get some of this off your chest and felt you could trust me. Though, I do suggest you talk to those who are now your parents, do not keep that mind of your's to yourself. You have wonderful insight into things, I think they may like discussing things with you,"Jaromila suggested.

"... If I had debated about whether I could trust you or not, I would not have talked to you beyond your first question," Haides replied bluntly. He shrugged at her suggestion. "If you say so. ...Quite frankly, there aren't many topics I can talk about with them. My expertise is in subjects that are not pleasant for anyone to discuss, let alone parental figures."
(( occ: So... I totally had this funny scene play out in my head where he starts calling Serenity "Fairy Godmother" because he doesn't feel comfortable calling her Mom. XD ))

Jaromila laughed lightly at that, glad he hadn't thought about it too much then.
"Glad you decided to talk to me anyway, even if you didn't know if you could trust me or not. Mom and Dad say I have a tendency to get people to talk, even if they do not want to. I do not know why, it just happens, I guess. The things you talked to me about seemed perfectly fine, I don't think your parents would mind talking to you. I think they would just like to know if you are alright and they will want to help you figure things out. I know I have asked my parents things and even if it is not a happy topic, they will talk to me about it,"Jaromila explained.
((Lol, that is definitely a start in the right direction, til he feels comfortable calling her Mom))
