◘ Personality Overview ||
Baird is a very shy and quiet individual. He's easily spooked and has a terrible fear of the dark. It was because of this that his older brother, Torban, left him with a Mareep when he was nine years old. Torban was already a fairly successful poke'mon trainer by then and while he had found the black mareep to be an oddity, he didn't think it fair that the poke'mon would sit idly while he focused on his core group. The black mareep, affectionately named Rylis, has been Baird's near constant companion since then. The sheep poke'mon even sleeps within the youngster's room, it's tail serving as a night light of sorts.

However, after the untimely death of his father and the mysterious disappearance of his father, Baird has gathered up his courage to make something of himself to support his mother. He spent a year training his mareep and after a few years, he managed to evolve it into a flaaffy.

He speaks softly and tends to mutter a lot. Shying away from larger crowds, he's not exactly well known in his home town. His brother, however, is something of a folk tale among his relations. The young man was supposedly at the top of his game when he vanished and most speculate that he, like his father, met an untimely end on the training field. Baird refuses to believe it and quietly hopes to discover something more encouraging regarding Torban's disappear.

Baird has a terrible fear of ghost-type poke'mon and ghost stories and he tends to be more on the superstitious side.

◘ Ambition ||
Baird is currently scared out of his wit of leaving home. He's unofficially the man of his household so he doesn't see his Poke'mon journey as being much of a choice. His family's finances won't last forever and his family will need a small collection of strong poke'mon to keep themselves safe in case things take a turn for the worst.

Presently, he just wants to catch a few more poke'mon to strengthen his team before taking on the local gym leader. Down the road, he wants to be an accomplished trainer like his brother and perhaps establish a new gym elsewhere. They're the ambitions of a young boy and may mature along with him.

◘ Favorite Poke'mon Type || Unsure.
He doesn't like ghosts or dark-type poke'mon at all. There may be an exception, but that will have to come along through character development and rp.

◘ Skills and Talents ||
xxx• Baird comes from a very musical family. Thus the 'theme' of naming their children after music-related things. He can play a panflute very well.

Inhinx was a place to be avoided. Following the Poke'mon's revolt on their trainers, the town was all but abandoned, to include the silver mine that had once supplemented a decent population. The rumors surrounding the area became something of a folk tale to those of Motterossa. The rich silver mines, the villagers' cruelty, the many stories of cruelty, and growing rumors of unsettled spirits haunting the area all gave the villagers something to talk about and something to build a plethora of fireside stories with. Village children were warned away from the area and told that if they were to approach it, the angry ghosts would draw them into the abyss. It was a decent ghost story and it doubled over as a way to ensure that the young treated their poke'mon well. However, the mention of an abandoned silver mine was a large draw for a struggling lower-class family.

Tanbur Swan was the father of two young boys and the loving husband of Kannel. He had been a merchant specializing in selling the refined silver that he himself would smelt in his shop. For a time, the family lived comfortably but when the silver mine shut down, they lost their primary income. Seeing little option, Tanbur left with his faithful Poke'mon to harvest the silver himself. In his mind, the rumors of ghosts were deterrents from the obvious store of wealth there and that perhaps a group of local minors had invented the stories in order to isolate the mine for themselves.

It was a year before any word returned of Tanbur. Apparently while he was working in the mines he and his poke'mon were trapped due to a sudden cave-in. A ranger had discovered his remains and had reported it to the authorities. It took weeks to identify the man and make a match of him with the reports of missing persons. Upon hearing the news, the rumors of a haunted cave and misfortune only amplified. Many blamed the unsettled spirits of the mistreated poke'mon still haunting the mines for the cave-in.

Torban became the man of the household and decided to take up poke'mon training as his means for making his family's income. For a time, he was fairly successful. He was a popular youth among his peers and had a talent for training his poke'mon with a no-nonsense attitude. He won consistent poke'mon battles and used his winnings to support his young family.

He would frequently leave home to seek out opponents and new locations for capturing poke'mon and on one such return he gifted his younger brother, Baird, with a strange black mareep that he'd found on one of his excursions. Baird was haunted by his father's death and by the rumors of a curse falling onto his family because of his father's disruption of the silver mine's angry spirits. He had never left the town to look for his own poke'mon and shied away from the prospect of setting out on his own. The mareep was a rare find and Torban didn't feel entirely right letting such a poke'mon sit about while he dedicated his attention to his personal team. Baird was told that the black mareep was able to keep angry spirits away with the light from his tail. It was a decent enough story, although something the older trainer had made up on the spot, and seemed to pull Baird from his shell for a time.

Whenever Torban would return from his training, he would show Baird how to properly instruct his mareep and would battle his own lower-level poke'mon against his brother's to boost his confidence and strengthen his mareep. However, Torban stopped returning home. There was no contact made between him and his family through the holiday season. Soon the weeks turned into months.

Three years passed after his disappearance and rumor began circulating that the curse had claimed the next in line. Baird was looked on with suspicion and pity, many assuming that he would be the next to vanish in retribution for his father's acts. Because of this, Baird became further isolated and avoided the night time. He is never seen without his now evolved flaaffy, Rylis, and refuses to place it in the poke'ball he was assigned to. While he knows that the electric type has no such abilities, he's comforted by the words of his brother in regards to Rylis and his glowing tail.

Finances tightened and as Baird became old enough to have some sense of the real world, finances, and poverty he realized that his mother was truly struggling to keep their household together. Despite her wishes, he has begun training his flaaffy in preparation for his own attempts at becoming a reputable poke'mon trainer. He's promised his mother that he'll find Torban and break the curse on their family, which he firmly believes exists. With what little money his mother could spare and the leftover supplies from his father and older brother, Baird set out on his own Poke'mon journey.

◘ Tanbur Swan || Deceased
Tanbur was a good man, a loving father, and a devoted husband. He worked as a merchant smelting down silver harvested from the mines outside of his region and did fairly well for his young family. When the mines were abandoned, however, he lost his source of income. Eventually the financial strain became too great and Tanbur set out to harvest the silver for himself. He was killed when the mine suddenly caved in and found months later by a ranger. It is believed that his intrusion on the mine upset the spirits of the poke'mon who had perished due to their masters' cruelty and beyond his death, a curse has been placed on the males of his family.

◘ Kannel Swan ||
Kannel was very young when she and her husband, Tanbur, started their family. She was a stay at home mother that kept up with the house and balanced the budget from home while her husband ran the smelter and the shop. She would assist when and where she could and as the boys grew older, she had more of a prominent role within the shop. Devastated by the loss of her husband, Kannel has become withdrawn and almost tuned out to the world. This has only deepened in the wake of her oldest son's disappearance. While reluctant to let Baird go, she knows there's little that she can do to stop him.

Torban was a strong youth with a no-nonsense attitude and a fierce dedication to anything he was invested in. When his father was found dead, he became the man of the household and fully delved into all that required of him. He began training his team tirelessly and picked up working in the shop when he was in town. Even on his trips out of town for training and battles, he'd carry parcels from his mother to clients outside of town. No one knows what happened to him but it's assumed that he met with a similar fate as his father.

Timleline Summery ||

Rylis was Baird's first poke'mon. Originally caught by his older brother, Rylis was not intended to be a part of Tanbur's core team. Rather than let a unique poke'mon go to waste in storage, Rylis was given to Baird to comfort and protect him. While it was a complete tall-tale invented by Tanbur to distill Baird's paranoia, Tanbur insisted that Rylis had the ability to ward off bad spirits with the glow of his tail. While Baird is old enough to realize that his brother was simply trying to comfort him with tall tales, he still believes it and refuses to go anywhere without Rylis. After those around him began assuming a curse was coming after him following the disappearance of his older brother, Baird outright refuses to return Rylis to his assigned poke'ball or swap him for a different poke'mon follower. Superstitious as it is, he believes Rylis can protect him.

Rylis is fiercely protective of his trainer and sees him more as a brother than as a master. He sleeps by his bedside and hangs off of his shadow, never so much as two steps behind Baird's back. He, like his trainer, has no love for ghost-type poke'mon though this is rooted in his trainer's discomfort more than his own.

He doesn't have many memories of his youth beyond being somewhat of an oddity. A black sheep in a flock of traditional mareep, he stood out and perhaps that's what led him to his capture more than anything. He doesn't see himself as an outsider but he's fully aware that his trainer is. Unknown to him, the townsfolk seem to see him as an omen of his trainer as well.
