Tracey had heard the words before, he was likewise sure of it. But for some reason now there was an edge of curious regret to hearing them, as if there'd been a decision he'd made at some point long forgotten that had changed the meaning of them. He sighed shallowly against the other weapon.

"I wonder if I knew the things I can't remember if I'd be happier or if I'd regret it sometimes. Like, I wonder if I chose this trying to forget something." It was merely an idle musing but he had to wonder, if some of these feelings were so upsetting, had that been his reason?

"I did not," Ferros said without having to think about it, then paused, the glow of his eyes flickering. "I don't remember why. But I was not looking to forget."

He exhaled a puff of warm steam. "I wonder," he said slowly, "why I do know what I do. Why I remember anything at all." His blunt claws smoothed over Tracey's wing, absently preening, delicate and careful in spite of the clumsy size of his hands.

"It's unexpected dear, I have to admit. I didn't expect anything like the things I've felt since this little experiment began, it's been a wonderful learning experience in many ways. Even with it's downsides.." he eyed the bed. "..like a sulky human."

The touch on his wing made him shiver involuntarily, not in a negative way. His wings were all important, and he had a feeling anyone else might have been sternly warded off. Ferros though, was different. He even spread the primary feathers a little just to make it easier. "I think I was looking for something. And following something too, maybe an ideal, maybe people, maybe something else I don't know. I don't think it was all that noble though."

"Maybe we just have to remember things a little to still be ourselves."

Ferros huffed a soft, growly chuckle. "Your human is often sulky," he observed, "whether or not he has anything to be sulky about."

He smoothed the feathers under his claws with attentive care, finding the task pleasant and soothing. "I think maybe you are right," he agreed. "We are who we are. Even though the memories are missing, you are still you and I am still I."

"He is. He's such a grumpy man. So many problems he just blows out of all proportion, I just wish I knew what it was this time. He's been. Very strained lately and its hard to keep his mind off it. We missed you both a lot."

He kept his attention on Ferros' tail, drawing his claw lightly over the familiar ridges and planes of the metal. "I hope he doesn't try and make me be quiet again, he was starting to listen to me for a while there, going back would be a hindrance."

He was surprisingly comfortable where he was, the attention to his feathers still making goosebumps sneak across his skin. "Do you think I could sleep here?"

Ferros shivered faintly, the metal of his shoulders rattling. "It was very difficult to to keep his mind from folding in on itself more than it did," he said. "He doesn't show his emotions as much as yours does, but when they were there when he woke up, that was - good."

The tip of his tail moved slowly, absently, not an attempt to escape the attentions but a simple automatic motion that followed the direction of the light touch. "You and he will be able to settle things better when you are thinking together again." The glow of Ferros's eyes muted slightly. "Stay with me tonight," he asked, almost plaintively. "I can't sleep in the bed and I would like your company."

Tracey snuggled slightly closer to Ferros at the shiver. "Whatever you did I'm glad you both came back. I don't know what William would have done without yours, and I would never even have known about any of this, about you." The thought was harrowing, it was bad enough to have been unaware even this long of these feelings, he didn't want to imagine a world where he never knew at all.

"Then I will stay." was his resolute little statement at Ferros' request, there was an unspoken sadness in his words that it might be something they would never get to do again, but he snuggled up as much as he could regardless, stretching his lowest set of wings out to comfortably cover his lap.

It was more than likely that the experience wouldn't be repeated, but Ferros found likewise that he was quietly glad to have had the opportunity, even though he would never know what had been in the memories he no longer had. He rumbled a quiet agreement and rearranged himself so both of them could curl up comfortably, leaving room within the curve of his body so that Tracey could settle his wings around himself. "Thank you," he murmured.

Tracey nestled in easily, muscle memory more accurate than the scattered remains of mental memory, his body remembered how it felt to be close by to Ferros and how to compensate for his edges. It didn't take him long till he was as close as he could be, eyes half lidded lazily. He was one of those creatures who could make sleeping anywhere look comfortable.

"Thank you too."
For so much more than just keeping him company, for more than he could remember.

He finally let his eyes close, setting aside for the time being the worries about William and letting the creeping tiredness take him. "G'night Ferr.", he mumbled quietly, before sleep finally took him. His last groggy thoughts before it did were of a fleeting hope that when he woke up, it would be right here.

"Good night, Traciel." Something had eased in Ferros's mind, a long-held but unknown anxiety slipping gently away. He watched solemnly as the fallen angel slipped into sleep. Then he let the glow of his eyes blink out and followed Tracey.
