He felt rush by him, and he did not try to stop her. The blood poured into his eyes burning, and he followed after her--knowing he could catch her if anything. But she stopped suddenly and all of her food made an appearance on the floor. He looked at her in disgust for a moment. She wasn't seriously injured, was the sight of blood making her sick.
He curled the book closer to him as he watched her a little more gently than before. He'd damaged her some, but he'd seen her fight back...and then she'd stop. She was quite a confusing specimen.
"What's wrong?" He let his voice soothe, falling back into it's old soothing tones.

Slightly relieved that he didn't try to stop her, Avia thought for a moment that she didn't have to hurl after all... but then it all came rushing out.
She heaved dryly once more when she looked at it, but there was nothing left in her stomach. Grimacing, the mare pulled back and away from the sick, wiping her muzzle with a bloody paw leaving a crimson streak across her pale mouth. She snapped, "Sick." Immediately realizing she had snapped, she added softly, "I'm so sorry. I didn't... I didn't mean to..." Snap? Vomit? Hurt him? All of them really, but there didn't seem to be a point in her picking just one.
His voice had smoothed into a nicer tone, and now that her stomach was empty she did feel a little better. Taking a deep breath she looked up at him and explained, "Got queasy at the thought of having hurt the little ones' father." Shaking her head, she spoke the words but didn't even register herself what exactly she had said. She hadn't gotten sick because of her wounds, or even at the sight of blood, but because she could have, if only by a lucky hit, killed the father of the little ones she knew she was carrying.
Even as this thought crossed her mind, it was light and easily processed, since she wasn't surprised she had gotten pregnant, and she assumed he was expecting it to happen at some point. She wasn't showing yet, but she had confirmed it a few days ago. Avia had not yet had reason to bring it up around Horus, but since he had asked, she had replied, assuming he already knew or was asking for confirmation.

Horus felt his whole body freeze as she spoke. She was pregnant. Pregnant with his foals. He was going to be a..father? That had never been part of the plan, and stupidly he'd not taken care that that would not happen.
He couldn't make himself move or speak. It seemed so odd to believe that he was at a lost for words. He couldn't stop gawking at her. What was he to say to this?
The lie fell into his mouth smoothly. "I love you. I don't know what came over you. You were just...so rageful no matter how kindly I spoke to you. It must be the hormones." He leaned down next to her. I'll have to take care of you...you're so fragile...and these children...must be strong." Like their father.
He hadn't thought of it before...but obedient, perfect creations half him genetically. The foals would be perfectly perfect if raised by his talons. They would be fine, vengeful specimens. Like minions...but better.

Avia pondered her thoughts a moment longer before casting a sideways glance at Horus, only to do a double take another moment later. He was... staring at her. Head jerking back she turned her muzzle to look at him better and figure out why he was gawking at her... but she never had the chance to sort that out because the next moment he said the most important words in the world to her.
"I love you."
Three little words that could melt a heart and change the world. Well, her world anyway. Again.
Eyes welled up with inky tears once more, but this time they were happy ones as she pressed her cheek up against his as she listened to the rest of his words. 'Rageful... kindly I spoke to you... ' she was about to interject since she remembered it a little differently than that... but with the mention of '...hormones...' she conceded to keep quiet. She knew afterall, that mares could go crazy under the influence of hormones, especially new mothers. Nodding gently, she couldn't argue that perhaps she had let her emotions and reason escape her when he... what had he done again? Her brow creased as she tried to remember what had happened to set her off, but before she could find it somewhere in the recesses of her mind she got pulled back to the present with what Horus said next.
"I'll have to take care of you... you're so fragile... and these children... must be strong..."
She finished the sentence, looking at Horus lovingly, "Like their father."
She did not realize that she was playing straight into his talons, for all she heard was that she was going to be having a family of her own. She was going to have Horus to look after her, and before long she would be showing that she was going to have their foals.
"Let's get cleaned up," She dropped her gaze to her bloody self, and then added, "We should cover up that gash so it doesn't get infected. I should be able to close it up a little, once we wash away most of the blood." Looking deep into his eyes, she added sincerely, "I'm so sorry, my love. I don't know what came over me. I won't let myself hurt you again."

"It's just a scratch," he smiled as he nosed her back. "It'll make me look more dashing."
How easily she fell for the words. How readily she accepted them because they were what she wanted to hear. It was that easy to bring her in, like a lamb ready for slaughter. It was everything he could do to not laugh wickedly.
He could see the wheels turning in her head as she thought of things, how she tried to decipher what would happen. But he knew he was winning.
"Yes, like me. We'll raise them to be amazing..." Something to be feared, demons of fear, frightening beasts that were both beautiful and merciless.
He drug his claws through her hair as he helped her to her feet and to the stream. Gently, he started to wipe away the blood. "There, there Avia..." He cooed, "You're alright. I'll take care of you."

Avia, ready to hear the loving words, lapped up every morsel without a second guess.
She had merely had a moment of... weakness. She had let herself lose control, let her hormones grab the reins and run amok, and what did it end with? With her beloved covered in blood. With nothing to speak of her own crimson-painted state. She would not do that again.
Horus knew best, he had guided her since she found him, and she had questioned him. Wrongly. She would not do so again. She needed Horus, she needed a father for their coming foals, and so she needed to follow his lead. Horus would take care of her.
She let him lead her, and help her clean up, her wounds were not serious, a few days and they should all be sealed over on their way to recovery, but that gore... that jagged scar that was to brandish Horus' face when he healed would be a wicked reminder. She would not, could not allow herself to think she knew better. And so, she let him regain control of her life, somewhat consciously this time, but still blissfully unaware of the plots he was beginning to bubble and boil inside his shadowed mind.
