Melvin jerked back as he saw the saw cut through him, and even though he knew the shield he had was taking the damage, it still caused his heart to seize up to think he was going to be cut in half like a red-neck horror movie or some bad magician's trick.
"What do you expect me to do?!" This was all he had in his very small book of fighting. He couldn't do any fast jabs or punches, and he felt that with weapons that would be rather a under-the-belt move. Aside from movement, the only flashy move he knew was a cartwheel, and that was more ridiculous than a badass action movie. That and he hadn't done one since he was a kid.
Everything he recalled from fighting scenes in movies were either out of his scope of capabilities or just humanly impossible.
Instead he just aimed and fired again. It was the only move he knew. Point and pull the trigger.

It was cruel of him to put so much pressure on Melvin, leon knew this deep down inside, but at the same time, he wanted him to see how far he could go. Spartan training? it wasn't exactly like that, they would still be alive at the end, but testing one's limits to see how far they could go, it was something interesting.
Or at the very least, it would be some good data for the Life division to have on all trainees. The next shot seemed more on point as it managed to land closer to his field of vision, obscuring it with its goop and burning at the shield. Not quite a headshot, but getting closer to it.
"Make your shots count, stay calm and shoot!" he barked out and put the pressure back on the young trainee and swung the chainsaw in another sweeping arc.

"I'm trying! It's a bit hard to do when someone is trying to cut you in half!" He shouted back, STILL not used to having all these weapons swinging about him each time he had to spar. At this rate, he was going to get a heart condition, and he always found it hard to hold his weapon when his nerves kicked in.
I'm charged! LET'S DO THIS!!!
Alright. Leon wanted fire power. He'd give it, but it was hard to do when the man was this close. Still, he was RIGHT THERE after all, and all he had to do was point and -
The gun fired, a egg glowing more brightly than the rest, and shot right past Leon's neck and flew back, missing him entirely
.....
OH MY JACK! HE WAS RIGHT THERE! HOW DID YOU MISS?!!!
My finger slipped.
WHATTTTTT????!!!!!!

"Cut you in half?" Leon asked quizzically as he swung back around with the weapon, the momentum was too much to stop as he spun on his heel. "Worse will happen, I just want you to prepare for it when it doe occur , you are a life trainee right?" he asked again and rested the grumbly chainsaw on his shoulder that even he himself was surprised he could do now. "If you are in life, that makes us work buddies, I'd rather throw you in the gauntlet and teach you the hard way than let you chance it and fail."
He knew it was a rough way of teaching someone, but it had to be done, considering that the male didn't seem hardened like with the team battle the strays woke up from.
But talk was cheap, as Nid said at times, action was important and it was something they both could agree on for once. The shot that flew past in a burst of speed, was something, even if it missed, he felt the resolve that Melvin had in making it work.
And it was enough the bring an almost maniacal smile to his face. H would have been proud, or at least he thought so. "Thats what I wanted to see!" he said roughly, thrilled at the battle. "But now its my turn." he declared proudly, boasting almost and curled the chainsaw closer to his own form, close enough to almost tear into his own treasured cloak before thrusting it back out. "Its time for dinner Nidhogg."
The almost frantic revving of the saw was menacing, the hunger for fear was insatiable as small jagged blades became larger, to the point of ludicrous. "Prepare yourself, I'm coming."
that was the last thing stated before the athletic hunters dashed in with a vicious lunge toward the torso.

"I know! Everyone has told me." He said back to being trained this way. EVERYONE thought the best method of showing him how to fight was in this way, and he just felt that it might be better to have some moving dummies instead.
Come on! You need to get stronger! You're holding me back!
OH! If you want to get stronger, go right ahead! By ALL means!
I'm tied to you. I can only be as strong as you can handle. If you're not at my level, I'm stuck.
That's a horrible excuse!
When Leon came again, he knew he wouldn't do well to aim.
SHOOT! SHOOT!
He's moving too fast!
THEN BLOCK!
Saliva used the energy to prepare for the attack, and despite it not being as strong as it would have been, it still packed a heavy punch.
Melvin stumbled back, holding his gut and feeling winded. It was like being punched in the chest and gut at the same time. It was strange to feel the pain without any cuts or blood.

It was supposed to be a training session for melvin, leon knew this deep down inside. But there he was, the little trainee, wobbling along the ring ropes, legs shaking, ready to buckle. All it took was just a few more solid strikes. He wanted that TKO, that ten count that would make him the victor.
There were no chance at backing off as the fellow hunter tightened his guard, but there were holes as wide as a tire on him. Movements became sharper as the former boxer swerved left and right, hefty feet became light as the danced around and swung in, the chainsaw curving along for the ride.
"Don't you lose that fighting spirit on me now Melvin, The round isn't over yet." he said in the pep talk manner that a coach would use. He heard it all too much, except with nidhogg, he was just his bad diet nutritionist. "Grit those teeth Melvin, you can do it."

Here he was being shredded by a guy who was bouncing all around, and yet he was being cheered on. It was more annoying than it was helpful or inspiring, and while Leon probably felt that keeping him upbeat and spirited would make him fight more, it only made Melvin want to blow off his head with his gun. So, in the end, it was sorta working.
He's too damn perky!!
He's trying to keep you from wussing out! Come on! You can hit him!
Melvin had his gun, but with the way Leon was jumping right and left, it was hard to line up his gun on his target before Leon jumped away.
He's too fast!
Come on! Do it for that damn sweater you want.
This isn't all about the damn sweater!
It sorta was.
Melvin fired, but Leon was already moving away and missed. Everyone kept making guns sound as a easy way to kill, but this was freakin hard! Now he wouldn't be so quick to make jokes about shooting scenes were a group of people were shooting round after round and no one got hit. This was tricky stuff!!

Bob and weave. the textbook way to evade a punch, Leon never expected it to be so damn important away from the ring. no matter what, it always seemed important in a fight. With the way Melvin's eye were darting around, he could only assume it was working. "it would be a horrible shame if my weapon had its way with that innocent sweater." he said, teasingly.
Just imagining the shards of fabric flying about, he was sure it would light the fire under the greener trainee. Even if it flew him in a rage, it would be worth it. Just for more emphasis , he stabbed again at the gunner's shield, watching bits chip off into the air. "Yep, kinda like that."

This is bad, Melvin! I can't hold this shield up much longer! Can't you feel that?
I don't feel much exactly right now. Melvin shot back at her, feeling both tired and swore.
Call it off! Call it off!!! You can't win this!
But..
It's like that guy said. It's a spar. Not life and death! Get a sweater someplace else!
He didn't want to hear her, and he instead started to aim.
I'M TELLING YOU TO -
And Melvin fired, ignoring his weapon completely.

Melvin was bold, Leon would at least give him props for that, still trying to shoot. It was something that he hoped the guy would do. At least in his mind, the trainee was OK for the life division. "Not bad, but its time to bring this to a close." he stated boldly and shoved his shoulder and the chainsaw at the smaller framed fighter.
And watched for the cracks to form in the weapons shield. "looks like you might need cover in order to be at your best shooting capabilities, good data, good data indeed." he mused out loud.
it would have been even ruder if he took the time to jot down the notes for future training plans. he didn't exactly want to insult the guy for trying. "You still with me? shall we call it at that?" he asked almost chipperlike before de summoning the still hungry chainsaw.
But Leon, can't I eat him? It was almost adorable to hear the rabid dragon whine.
"No Nid, Hunters are friends, not food." he scolded harshly while he looked back at his adversary.

The hit hurt, and nearly had his legs give way before he got his balance and took great deep breaths to keep himself from going dizzy.
For a skinny thing, you really like to pretend you weigh more. I told you to stop. This is why you get so cranky and get bitchy to pretty ladies who talk to you
Married pretty ladies, and I just..
Just what? Wanted a sweater? It's just one color! UGH! BLAAANNNDDD!!!
Considering the little Mongolian woman wore every shade on her own clothes, it probably was bland in comparison.
It's not that. None of these guys look even winded.
Melvin on the other hand felt ready to pass out, and knelt over to set his hands on his knees and just breathed. It was something he did too often with all the spars he had done so far. During these times, he regretting never going to the gym when his roommate offered.
"Yeah..." He breathed, a bead of sweat moving down his nose. "Call it." Melvin was done.

It was like music to his ears, the ceasefire against further combat. To be the last one standing was always a good feeling in Leon's book. he might have taken a deep breath of pride in his own capabilities. "Not bad, considering its probably... what your fifth of sixth fight?" Leon asked curiously and cocked his head at the tired lump of Melvin on the floor. "That winded? If you want to join me on my morning exercises, you're free to you know." he suggested, giving the newer trainee a grin. "Course you might not be able to put up with my rigorous schedule, but even a little bit is better than nothing."
it was always scary, Deus was as long as the Life hunter intermediate has seen, a place that was almost primarily focused on physical training. It was amazing. "The sooner we get your endurance up, the better." he continued to talk before walking back to the bench and opening the giftbox wider and pulled out the item hiding behind the evil, confining piece of fabric.
A waterbottle that was jut waiting for the green recruit. "Here, you earned this." he offered warmly to the rookie and gave the item a light shake.
It was a fellow Life division member after all. One that wasn't Robert at least.

"Maybe." He managed, not exactly liking the idea of doing a workout montage with Leon, but knowing he was going to get his a** handed to him if he got this tired after one fight. Staying in the labs paid off when you were a science grad, but it did nothing for you in this line of work. Maybe he could do something easy and work himself up on his own schedule. Then again, just looking at Leon proved this guy knew what the hell he was doing. "This is my fourth....fourth spar." He corrected, still catching his breath.
When Leon returned, Melvin looked up, and saw the water bottle. Oh He thought. It wasn't what he was expecting, but he smiled and took it, standing up straighter to take a moment to take a drink and breath out. His heart didn't feel as if it was trying to kill him, but he could still feel it beating quickly.
"Thanks."

and Leon used the moment to plop the sweater over Melvin's head before strutting away. "I think you'll get it after a few more bouts, if you need some proper training, let me know. I'll see you in the labs." he offered in reply before taking off to study the new recruits data in the labs database.
Plus search for things to use to torture the bloke when they cross paths the next time around.

Melvin pulled off the sweater from his face, both startled by it's sudden appearance and pleasantly pleased to see it. He held it out a moment, looking at it fully, and noticing that it was indeed very expensive. All thoughts about a man giving him a sweater were tossed aside at the sheer quality of the shift. He almost felt bad taking it - almost.
"Thanks." He managed, suddenly aware he was spoken to, and looked up to see that Leon was already well on his way to heading back. He'd have to be sure to get the guy something he'd at least enjoy. Sadly the only thought that came to mind was a protein shake. Oh well. He still had time to think about it.
I don't think I've seen you genuinely smile that hard before.
I'm not smiling. He corrected, forcing his face to drop back to looking apathetic and not just staring at the sweater. He quickly took his things and headed back towards the dorms.
