Reepicheep glanced over to Ironforge whom was watching Finnegan and Mercy in combat. He couldn’t begin to imagine what the shaggy stallion had gone through. Sure, Reepicheep had his fair share of battles but he had never been hurt or betrayed like that before and hopefully never would. He sighed deeply and rubbed his chin with his little paw before looking to Prospector. “You two have been through a lot,” he started to say with furrowing eyebrows. “My apologies,” Reepicheep bowed his head in respect and then took watch of the training battle. Groaning and rolling his eyes as he watched Finnegan James and Mercy battle it out. And boy, was Finnegan taking it rather easy on Mercy and not to mention not using his head for most of the fight. It was a shame as Finnegan was a true knightly stallion and when his head was set he could do such wonders.

Reepicheep blinked as he looked back to Prospector. “I cannot say that we’ve come across anything evil besides a couple bandits some days ago,” he answered. “But I wouldn’t really say that bandits are truly evil. Sure their intentions are but they’re little when compared to Kalonas or Skinwalkers,” he said. Rubbing his temples he leaned forwards on his haunches, “do you really think something is stirring? What does Ironforge think?” he blinked towards the stallion quickly and then back to Prospector.

Finnegan’s nostrils flared as he breathed deeply—heart pounding quickly inside his chest. This fight was much harder than he had expected and Mercy was doing a great job—better than what Finnegan had expected. He snorted as he could feel the very tip of her horn brush against his neck. Now how come he couldn’t had been born with one? Snoring again and kicking at the earth as he pulled away and released her from his grasp. He stepped back with a disgruntled expression upon his face. The blunt attacks were wearing him out. Finnegan was tired and it was showing…his legs were starting to tremble and his facial expression looked a little exhausted. “You’re a fast one. Smart too,” he looked to Mercy. “You have quite the teacher,” he motioned to Ironforge with a faint grimace. “Show me what else you’ve got,” he held his head up high and had decided to let her take a blow at him—see how she would confront him.

"It is all in the past now." Prospector replied with a slight sigh "I think he is much happier now then he has been in a good while, Mercy is a bit on the naive side when it comes to life but she brings a breath of fresh air to the herd, she has a truly good heart and I think Ironforge needed to see someone like that to restore his faith in the world."

Prospector thought about Reepicheeps question for a few moments "We have heard rumors, about a mountain filled with vicious Soquili and some increased Kalona action to the south - at least Kalona tend to work alone. I don't know what would happen if they decided to work together for once, but the rumors are worrisome none the less, overall I think he believes that there are fewer truly good Soquili left in the world these days while the corrupt and the unkind seem to be spreading like a wildfire."

Ironforge nodded slightly to himself as Mercy found a way out of her predicament without causing herself harm - although if it were a true enemy she were fighting then it's likely that stabbing the beast with her horn would have been the only resort. Dark minded Soquili with a goal on their minds were not so easily backed off.

"Good Mercy." He praised the mare for her quick thinking, before turning his attention to Finnegan "This time when she comes at you - try to predict her intentions." He encouraged the other stallion, hoping that he would pick up on this defensive tactic. He had a great deal of strength behind him and that was good - but one needed tactics as well as brute strength to win some battles.

Mercy was relieved when she felt the stallion pull away, the strain of holding her ground had taken a good bit of her energy and strength and she was sure that she was going to have some sore muscles later on. That was typical of training however - Kale was always telling her that such things merely meant she was working hard enough to get better and so Mercy wasn't going to dwell on it.

Instead she all but glowed under the combined praise of Finnegan and Ironforge, ducking her head slightly to hide her pleased look behind her forelock until she recomposed herself and focused on the task at hand. "Thank you, your quite strong - and I've never fought anyone who uses your tactics before." She responded in kind, complimenting her opponent as he had complimented her.

When he invited her to take the next move she looked to Ironforge and given his slight nod of approval she set about circling Finnegan, looking for an opening that she could take advantage of.

Reepicheep stood up from his little perch on Finnegan’s armor and scurried towards Ironforge. “Why do you cower here teaching these two when there’s justice and honor to be done?” he asked, paw firmly on the hilt of his sword. “If the rumors are correct about a mountain being poisoned by ill-content Soquili, than you must be there! There are innocents—pures that need your help and yet you stay here. Why?” his voice loud—loud enough to get the attention to Finnegan.

The stallion blinked away from Mercy for a moment as he looked down to his friend in wonder what made him so upset—and what he was he going on about a mountain where evil Soquili resided.

“If you believe that there are truly little good Soquili in this world today and more and more are being corrupted, than you go out there and bring them back to the light. You need to be saving lives. You’re a powerful, stallion Ironforge. You were a leader, you had troops, and you battled. Just because of one bad experience…one bad moment, doesn’t mean it’ll happen again. You can still be that leader. Why not do it again?” he asked with sorrow.

“Reep?” Finnegan stepped closer towards the mouse, glancing up to Ironforge. “I’m sorry about my friend. Sometimes he needs to learn to be quiet,” his eyes quickly darted down to Reepicheep. “Don’t apologize on my behalf. I’m not sorry. I’m not the one that cowers away,” the mouse’s eyes looked to Ironforge. “But I’m confused…are you cowering from now or the past?” his voice low and for a moment he did stutter his words, afraid of what Ironforge would do.

Finnegan hadn’t a clue of what Reepicheep was going on about, but a feeling deep within his stomach told him that he shouldn’t know and that his companion was just running his mouth. He sighed deeply and shook his head.

Ironforge stood in silence while the mouse berated him, staring down at the tiny creature with the full knowledge that he could - if he wanted to- squash him absolutely flat with one quick step - in his gaze. Ironforge did not make that quick step however, he was gruff and stern and perhaps a bit on the serious side but he was not cruel and he was wise enough to let others speak their thoughts without fear of violent reprisal. Better that he educate them then punish them.

"I see that Prospector has been sharing stories." The stallion remarked, waving Finnegan away with a slight motion of his muzzle. "It is no bother - I will answer your little friend truthfully enough." He told the other stallion before lowering his head and fixing the mouse with one large and focused eye. "I did cower once, I spent a great deal of time telling myself that the petty squabbling of others was no longer my concern, that to enter into the fray would merely put me back under the control of another - and that above all else I could not bring myself to do. But I met a small stallion once day who opened my eyes and I came out of my seclusion. I do not hide, nor cower nor ignore the rumors of trouble elsewhere...but neither do I rush off to right it before I am ready to do so. A mountain cannot be toppled by one..or even two and without the resources I once had at my beck and call I must rebuild and so I am. There is more to bringing light into the world then blindly rushing into the darkness my friend...when the light is small and the shadows great the light must choose wisely when to attack...or be snuffed out by an ill fated wind. Do you understand?"

Raising his head he looked at all of those gathered. "I will tell you all the true secret to defending something - to truly, really defend something...you must love it, then and only then will you be willing to take those last few steps, to give yourself wholly to the cause even at the possible detriment of yourself. It is well and good to be brave and kind and talented, to fight well and proudly...but love will see you through when your courage falters and your body aches, when your pride has been taken and your talent shown lacking. I am relearning to love this world and when I do I will lead those who also love this world once more. Until then...I bide."

When Finnegan broke off to diffuse whatever was happening between Ironforge and his mouse friend Mercy also broke off, wandering over to find out what was going on. It did not take long for the mare to put two and two together. She had of course heard part of this story before..but some of it was new and she mulled the thoughts over in her mind and for once remained silent as she did so. It gave her much to think about. Much to consider within herself.

Reepicheep nodded with his head dipped down a bit. Finnegan could tell that his little companion felt embarrassed by his sudden burst of questions towards Ironforge because the mouse’s ears were pulled back slightly and his tail limp on the ground. The sight got a little chuckle out of Finnegan because Reepicheep should’ve known what was coming. Sometimes the little mouse really needed to remain quiet but Finnegan did admire his friend’s courage.

Once Ironforge was done speaking the little mouse pulled back with a heavy sigh and Finnegan figured it was his turn to say something or ask a question. Blinking away from his companion Finnegan looked to Ironforge with a gentle warming smile.

“I thought that to love something would just get in the way—that emotion. Thought a knight should remain emotionless in any time of combat that way they’re not affected by anything,” he asked. “I’d rather be unattached than to have a broken heart,” Finnegan said. It was a bit morbid but it was true. Finnegan didn’t want to attach to anyone while on his journey to becoming a knight. Yes, friends were great and it was a pleasure to have Reepicheep at his side. But in all honestly that’s all he would want. He knew the world was a horrible—terrible place and most were liars and cheats. Why be caught up in all that?

Reepicheep blinked as he looked to Finnegan with a curious concerned expression. Finnegan was quite sociable and enjoyed meeting others…So what was he going on about?

Shifting on his hooves a bit as Finnegan glanced down to Reepicheep quickly and saw that look on the mouse’s face. He then, with a sigh, looked back to Mercy. “I think we should take a break,” he suggested and hoped.

Ironforge smiled kindly at the little mouse, he was brave little beast and despite his size Ironforge was sure that he would do much to help make the world a better place...even if he was a touch on the impulsive side. Lifting his head he nodded to Finnegan. "There are those who believe in such a path yes, that remaining emotionless is the best way to approach a situation but being in such a condition makes you as cold and unfeeling as the ones you fight against. There are many types of love...you do not have to risk a broken heart to protect something out of love, merely care for it enough to give the fight everything that you have - and you will find you have much more to give that fight if you are doing so because you truly care and believe in it..then simply fighting for duty, because you are supposed to."

Mercy nodded to the stallion in agreement to the break - it seemed like Finnegan had much on his mind and truthfully she did as well after hearing Ironforge speak. It was not the first time she had heard these ideal's - Kale had spoke of them before but it was the first time she had heard them from the mouth of Ironforge himself and the strength and conviction behind his words had touched her.

"Of course." She told Finnegan with a smile. The stallions last statement - about being unattached made her sad in a way, he was a fine stallion and she was sure he deserved to have a family someday regardless of his duties...perhaps he had just not found the right mare yet and when he did all his fears of attachment would melt away.

Finnegan had pulled himself away from the training battle between himself and Mercy. He settled down underneath the shade of a couple nearby trees that grew close to the party. Plopping himself down on the ground felt good as it meant that he could now rest even if just for a brief moment. The blows that he had done onto the mare had taken a toll on his body. He felt his legs become stiff and shaking and with Mercy ‘attacking’ him wasn’t helping at all. With a sigh he lowered his head and stretched out a couple limbs and his neck. He winced a bit but shook off the pain before looking as his little mouse friend scurried closer to him.

“You need to get back in there,” Reepicheep said as he crawled his way up onto Finnegan’s back. “Oh? Perhaps you should take my spot for a little while,” Finnegan joked with a chuckle. Reepicheep too laughed as he looked his friend over. “She’s tough and strong-willed. But whom would doubt such strength when she has a mentor like that,” the little mouse glanced over to Ironforge.

Lifting his head Finnegan looked to Ironforge and nodded. He had to agree but he wanted to know more about the stallion’s past and what evil lurked in the mountains.

“Maybe we should stay with them for a while. It’ll be good for you,” Reepicheep said and again, Finnegan nodded his head and stood up to join the little group. He looked to Mercy, soft smile and then looked to Ironforge. “Would it be all right if we joined you for a couple days? You say that an evil threat is growing so I think it would be great to have more eyes,” he asked with a hopeful smile.
