"Your "thinky-spot" is in the middle of a bunch of water?" He raised a brow disbelievingly. That was kind of like an oxymoron, considering Danny couldn't think whens he so much as got to close to the kitchen sink. He let it go though, chalking it up to a Danny quirk. A lot of things were chalked up to Danny quirks.
He shook his head quickly. A little bit of him was bewildered that she thought he was actually studying. laughsong.mp3.
"I've just been busy. I had a couple gigs, and stufff like that. I just haven't wanted to be around the school much lately. I'm sorry. I'm not mad at you, I promise. You haven't done anything I could be mad at." Somewhere in his little speech the mix had made it's way into a pot, and some sort of thick chowder was heating up and making the kitchen smell pretty good. For Rikki, it kind of smelled like home. The good home, with Tapio.

Danny picked at her nails, fidgeting and being awkward. "Not in the water. It's on the shore. Under this neat tree, with big black leaves that have teeth!" She smiled, letting her excitement break the awkwardness.
Rikki's concoction didn't look very good, and in fact it looked like a thick sort of liquid, but ever the daredevil, Danny would try anything once. It didn't keep her from a cocked eyebrow though.
"I ... could you just um ... could you tell me when you go places?" she asked, rubbing the back of her neck. "Sorry that sounds really dumb, huh?" She bit her lip and twiddled her fingers again.

Trees with teeth. Hardly the weirdest thing in Halloween. Why wouldn't a tree have teeth?
Usually when a ghoul asked him to tell her where he was going and when, he'd feel confined. He'd feel leashed, and clung to and just uncomfortable. But the nature of Danny was never to cling. Nothing she did was to cling and restrict him, it was only to understand. So if she needed a little reassurance that he wasn't just avoiding her, he could give it, and he knew she wouldn't try to change what he did unless she really needed it. "Yeah, sure screech. I'll send you a text or something when I do stuff. It's not dumb."
He chucked her under the chin gently and turned to serve her some of the chowder. "My mom used to make this for me and Tap when we didn't feel good."

Danny smiled, her heart fluttering lightly. She knew Rikki didn't like metaphorical chains, as much as he loved the physical ones. Telling him not to do things just made him want to break the rules more.
As he moved closer, Danny gained back a little of her previous mischievousness and wrapped her legs around his torso from her place on the counter. When the chowder game close, she grimaced like a little scareling receiving vegetables.
She weighed her options and then bit down on the spoon. A moment or two and then an unexpectedly childlike smile crossed her face. This was ... good?
"Must be pretty special," she said, swallowing. She knew what Tapio meant to him. He kept it mostly to himself, but after dating him so long, she at least had bits and snippets to run off of. "I like it!" Her arms came up to wrap around Rikki's neck in a tight hug. "And I like you."

Rikki served himself some of the chowder as well and hummed around a spoonful. "Yeah, I guess. It makes me feel better, at least." Standing together, with her legs wrapped around his torso and sharing warm chowder between them, it was actually way better than any of his memories. This was intimate and nice, and just... good after so much worrying. It was really good.
"I like you too," he laughed, planting a kiss to her nose.
