a. Get to know their fellow competitors and check in with their teammates! The point of the games is fun, and part of that is getting to know new friends and rivals! Keelut, page of Polaris was tried of thinking this was a competition, she had already won two medals, two more then she thought she would get so she was happy. It was nice and she was just going to take this as something to have fun. She looked around as the other knights walked around or looked at their equipment. She smiled happily and hope that this would be a pleasant day. She moved around in the crowd to see if she would be able to talk to anyone but she kind of just walked around awkwardly.

Solveig, page of Jupiter, was not really one to be prepared. He had never much cared for the trivial things like--you know. Where you were going. The adventure was in the journey, after all! And with so many interesting people lined up around him, how could he resist the urge to converse with all of them!
The competition would only last for a short while--but friends, rivals? They lasted for far longer than any route ever could. And with everyone clustered around like this? Well, it was the perfect opportunity to make a good first impression! With nothing but cycling to focus on, they'd certainly get lonely--and with them fresh on his mind, they'd be looking for friends after this, he just knew it.

PROMPT TWO - THE DETOUR
BANG!
They were off. The initial course was paved, designed to set the pace, and the riders were free to form groups as they saw fit. Some were hard riders, naturally taking the lead and leading the others. Some mingled in the 'pack', and other struggled along at the back.
Within hours, there was a change in the agenda. A barricade was set up ahead, the road covered with debris and rocks. Shut down. Fortunately enough, there were roadside attendants there to point to the detour signs and offer water to those that needed it!

b. Head downhill on a dirt path toward the forest!

Things had started off well enough, and he traveled in the middle of the pack, not wanting to spend any more energy than he had to. It was important to pace yourself, especially in such a long race.
Then, of course, things started to go wrong. Nothing bad, not really, just a barricade, but it would derail them temporarily. He accepted a drink of water as he studied his options. One path seemed to lead upwards, and the other down. It was a hard choice.
The teen eventually decided on the upward leading path, wanting to travel up while he was still full of energy.

When Glendalough reached the detour he only hesitated for a moment before heading downhill. He didn't fancy the uphill climb, or the gravel. Falling on that would be painful. Much better to take the downhill route and only deal with whatever animals and undergrowth was in the forest.
...
Maybe he should have gone uphill after all.

Shalott was no fool. She saw the detour ahead and decided to take the uphill road. Every uphill has a downhill, right? The others would save time now going downhill to the forest while she worked hard early in the race but when they tired out she'd be cruising down the other side...

Aria took only a second to decide what path she wanted to go on. Even though going down would be so much easier on the legs, the phrase "no pain, no gain" ran through her head.
And she oh so wanted to gain.

Elis couldn’t really decide which way would be the better path. Going uphill seemed like a bad idea this early on—he didn’t want to expend too much of his energy right off the bat. But then who knew what would cross his path in the forest if he chose to take that route. It could end up being the poorer choice in the end for all he knew.
For lack of anything better to do, Elis decided to wing it.
He took the path toward the forest, if only because the trees looked less intimidating.

He was no good with this sort of thing so when the detour came up and a choice needed to be made Alkanet went the easiest route, or at least what appeared to be the easiest route. The forest didn't seem such a bad choice though who knows what was in that forest, and turning the bicycle that way he headed off, after grabbing a bottle of water to drink and douse himself with.

When she saw the first split, Iseult grinned. The forest path would be easy, but she wasn't here for easy, right? So she angled towards the mountains, pedaling hard to get up them.

By the time Roarke made it to the detour, she had watched those ahead of her splitting off on separate paths. There was a troublesome break in planning already. She was rather enjoying the paved road, for it took little of her attention to stay upright, but there was no way around making a choice. The path towards the forest had the double advantage of being downhill (even if it meant going uphill later) and being far less mountainy. Roarke knew her skills were closer to agility than strength, so off down the dirt path she went!

The 'race' was wonderful at the beginning. There were plenty of people to chat with and now that they weren't confined to where they needed to set out from, the Squire from Jupiter took advantage of falling behind a few of the other cyclists. If they wouldn't be able to talk much during the race, he could at least look, right?
At least until they came to a detour. Sessrumnir grinned at the sudden change in plans, immediately turning towards the forest for an easy coast down the hill. Hopefully his ability to make split second decisions would give him an advantage over those who had been carefully studying the maps, expecting the path to be the same.

Solveig might not have wanted to ride uphill so early in the race and waste all his energy that way, but he reasoned that if he pushed himself now, maybe he could spend some time rolling downhill, gain some energy, and then be as good as new! His adrenaline was pumping from the start of the race, and while he was so very inclined to roll down the hill, he knew it was probably best to push himself and give it his all! Besides--that path did not look like it was going to be a pleasant ride.

The course may have suddenly changed, but Valhalla wasn't deterred. He headed towards the mountains, knowing full well that it would be a much difficult challenge than an easy coast down the hill.
But he also knew he could likely use it to his advantage. If he could use his position high above the others, he might be able to keep an eye on their path. Unless of couse trees got in the way... But still. What goes up, must come down, eventually. Might as well get the hill out of the way while he was still fresh.

Väinämöinen pondered going through the forest. It probably would been steadier and less risky to go that route. But on the other hand, half-way of the mountain route would be done rather quickly.
But what really made him decide to on mountain route was to see other Cosmos knight, Aria, to head over that way as well. A little worried, he turned his bike towards the mountain route and went after her.
