"I think that sounds wonderful. I'd love to have company." And since Leo did need to talk to him, it was quite convenient.

"It's only a little box," Rio replied, chuckling. "Adi ate herself sick on one of the big ones once, so I learned my lesson." He really hadn't intended for her to eat the whole box, but well....Adi was Adi.

Leo grinned and shook his head. That certainly sounded like something Adi might do. "Does that sound agreeable to you, Émile?"

The boy nodded, as he was currently nibbling on a chocolate. It would be nice to have a peaceful, mostly quiet dinner for a change.

"Good, that settles that." Rio was quite happy that Émile did decide to eat the chocolate, although it was probably a good thing that he'd waited for Leo to tell him it was alright. Unlike Adi, who always pretty much ignored that anyone could possibly mean her harm.

He looked over to Leo and smiled warmly. He hadn't had a 'family dinner' in...too long.

They would not have to wait too long for dinner at least. A couple of kitchen servants came by with their dinner and a small table, as Leo's room lacked such furniture. The fare was much like dinner the night before had been, since most in Eglantine prefered quick light food. There was tea instead of wine as well. After all, performing after eating a heavy meal was never any fun.

Émile kept glancing at Rio now and again as they ate, getting that look like he was trying to figure out what exactly was going on. The man was not a normal patron, that much was obvious enough- most patrons would not have put up with having a fosterling as a dinner guest.

It was hard to miss those looks, but for his part, Rio pretended that he didn't notice, and simply ate quietly between snippets of conversation. Eventually, he gave Leo a bit of a look of his own. Now would probably be a good time to speak to Émile, but that wasn't his subject to broach - help with if necessary, yes, but not begin. He smiled encouragingly.

Well, it was hard to miss what that look meant. It probably would be a good idea to talk to talk to him now. The biggest hurdle was finding a way to start this conversation. Might as well be direct-ish about it. "Émile, am I allowed to ask what Alexandrie has told you about your parents?"

The boy shrugged as if to say 'not much really'. "I don't remember my Mother, very well."

"And your father?"

Émile shook his head. "Never met him."

"What if I told you that you had?"

That was actually a rather good way to start the conversation, in Rio's opinion. Granted, most things were probably better than blurting out 'I'm your father,' which...alright, he was going to cut off that train of thought before it arrived at a reference no one here would understand. Besides, this was serious.

He waited quietly, sneaking his hand under the table to rest it reassuringly on Leo's knee.

Émile tilted his head and eyed Leo skeptically. "How would you know that?" Unless.... He got that look again that said his mind was working things out, or at least it might be.

Leo let him think a moment before saying anything, his hand over Rio's caressing the back of it gently.

"Is it you?" It seemed the best guess to his five year old mind, since Leo cared about him.

"Mhm." Partly he was relieved that Émile had figured it out himself.

The boy's blue-grey eyes went a little wide and after a moment he launched himself at Leo.

He couldn't help but be a bit tense as the scene progressed, and he watched the boy work through what was being implied - he really was quite sharp. And, fortunately, happy with what he worked out. Love had to resist the urge to cheer as Émile leapt at Leo, and simply sat back with a wide grin.

He looked at Leo and winked. See? That hadn't actually been hard at all!

Leo had not expected that at all. Still he caught Émile and almost fell back onto the rug in the process. He smiled over at Rio as he hugged the boy close. The D'Angeline felt a bit silly now that he had been worried over this. "I am sorry that I did not tell you before now."

Émile just shrugged and continued to cling to him for now. At least Leo had been there when he need him that was the most important thing. It also explained why the adults had avoided the subject around him. Now that that mystery was solved so to speak he was determined one way or another to figure out Rio. He eventually unhooked his arms from around Leo's neck and turned around to sit on his father's lap instead politely as he possibly could.

It was impossible not to smile, really, and his eyes might have been just a little watery. Just a little. He missed Adi and Kin rather acutely for a fleeting moment, remembering how they used to fit into his lap. But they were grown now, and he couldn't be there all the time.

The god cleared his throat a little nd came back to the present. Luckily for Émile, he wouldn't need to work much harder to figure Rio out. "And...we had something to ask you, if you can keep a secret?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 18, 2012 11:47 pm

Émile nodded. Of course he could! Keeping secrets was an important thing in the Night Court after all. Formal education did not not start until thirteen, but it was hard not to glean things when you lived around people everyday. "Yes, I can."

Leo felt considerably better now that the "hard" part was over with. He glanced at Rio, wondering just how much the god planned to tell Émile.

"When we go away, would you like to come with us? It's very far away, though. Farther than anywhere you've ever heard of, but it's beautiful." Rio figured the more they told Émile beforehand, the better - much better than dropping him straight into the Pantheon with no idea what in the world was going on. That might be just a little frightening.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 19, 2012 12:07 am

"You are going away again?" He glanced up at Leo, curious.

"That was the plan, yes." Of course if Émile did not want to go, then they would have to figure out something else because Leo did not wish to leave the boy behind now that he knew. He wrapped and arm around the boy and pulled him close. "It is a very beautiful place, but it is not like here at all."

Very beautiful...but not like here? Where could they possibly be talking about. Clearly Émile was very confused.

"It's...bigger than the biggest garden you've ever seen," Rio said after a moment of thought. It was rather hard to accurately describe and do the place justice. "It's always green, and the flowers are always blooming, and it's full of the most fantastical things and people you could imagine."

Love looked to Leo for assistance - perhaps he would be better able to put in terms Émile would understand?
