Melvin knew well a good when a conversation was A and B, and he C-d his way out of it by looking to a side classroom and pointing at it. "I'm going to start over there." He told them, making it that he just wanted to work and letting them have their moment to talk. That did not mean he wasn't listening.

Who's Sasha?

I don't know. Ro mentioned her before. "Very stern" he said. I guess she was one of the people they mentioned were captured before we arrived, but not the ones that died.

I see. Maybe you should give her a present!

I have no idea who she is that giving her a present would just be strange.

Well presents from a boil always perk me up.Never needed to know their name.

So you're one of those girls.

One of what ghouls? >:C

Shhh. I'm trying to listen.

Melvin started to sweep in the other room, but it was quiet here, and he kept his ear open to see if he'd learn anything.

Distant. He couldn't blame her. It was cathartic, taking a step back, focusing on yourself. Letting her be had been the right thing to do then, and he was grateful and ashamed. Coward.

"Ah, well..." He paused, not sure how much he could say; how much his fellow captives would want him to reveal. He didn't want to cause anyone discomfort or hurt- didn't want to bring the memories back. "I don't know what the others saw, to be honest. It was like- a dream, and a nightmare, all wrapped together. Not even sure how much of it was real." He shook his head, again, and tried to find the right words.

"We all...faced our demons. Personal ones. The kind you have to, well. You have to fight 'em on your own, 'else you never really won at all." At the comment that she asked about him, he grimaced slightly, as if in pain. "She should worry about herself. It's- that is..." I'm sorry. The words formed in his mind, but he didn't give it voice. Sorry wasn't enough, she had suffered at his own misguided sense of righteousness as she had at Medea's.

"It must be hard, not bein' there for her like you want," he said, both out of concern and a desire to change the subject, "and I'm sorry to hear it. Give her some space, maybe things will turn around again." He patted him on the shoulder tentatively. Trouble in paradise, maybe? It saddened him to see it- but sometimes good things just couldn't last, he reflected bleakly.

Wash took a deep breath, refocusing on the task at hand. "Meanwhile, this house ain't gettin' any cleaner, eh?"

"Yeah... yeah I had hoped... I don't know. Music's always been soothing for me. And... I mean, it's what brought us together but she just... seemed disconnected.I want to help but I mean... if it's not singing a tune or blowing something up, I'm useless, ahahaha." He paled quietly, digesting Wash's words. A dream... a more convoluted dream than the so-called rescuers had found themselves in, anyway. "I miss her."

He cleared his throat, glancing down the hallway before moving for a broom left off to the side. In his jumpsuit and stupid greasy little ponytail, he did not help his 'janitor vibe' at all.

"Also the school is riddled with boobytraps so be careful!" He raised his voice in case Melvin was still within earshot.

Melvin was indeed listening, but he wasn't about to show that. It was impolite. Instead, he called out from the other room. "What?" Then he walked out of the room, looking at them. "Did you say traps?" He asked, looking around as if he could spot one. Probably not. Nothing around him looked like a net hidden under a pile of leaves or a trip-line set to cause a massive log to swing and smash them. He also doubted that where were any rooms that would close behind him and fill with sand or have massive spikes slowly lower on him.

"Why would this place have traps?" He had to wonder about this place. "Don't people live here?" Sure, no kids, but there were houses. Well, there HAD been houses.

Wash stopped mid motion, about to grab his broom.

"I've been kinda wonderin' that myself," he told the man. "Seems awful strange. Some of it is of course due to recent, er, incursions from th' other side, but as to the town's origins, well..." he shrugged.

"You know anything about it, Jerry?" After all, he had been here longer. Perhaps full hunters were privy to more of the island's secrets. And a history lesson would be a welcome relief to the otherwise heavy discussion.

"No idea," Jerry sighed, "I assume it was just... here before all of this. Or something. They're generally tight lipped about things. When I was just a trainee, it was swarmed with shadowlings. Then there was that Insanity infection, and now all this? I kind of feel like this town is a lost cause." It kept them busy at least.

"Insanity....infection?" He said, looking around at the grubby, dirty, crumbling ruins of the school. To be honest, it looked like a inner-city school that had been thrown in the woods with all it's overgrowth and graffiti, but now he wondered if he could catch something from being out here. "What the hell is an insanity infection?"

Wash shrugged his shoulders uncomfortably. "I dunno, some kinda magic thing I guess. Messes with your head, something about our FEAR shields..." He busied himself trying to pick away at the grime near the baseboard, getting on his hands and knees. The science of Deus had always confused him - it sounded more like something from one of those star-something shows than actual fact.

"We should be careful clearing away the debris, but I don't think we should try anything er... deeper until we've gotten a group through to purge some of the explosives," Jerry murmured, looking down the hallway with a defeated expression, "I don't know what there is to gain by getting this place together. I mean... I had thoughts but. I don't know if anyone cares anymore."

Melvin paused to look at Jerry. "You have a theory? Well, go on." Despite what character Jerry might be, he was all for theorizing about the reason for crazy places and manual cleanup of said places. If also was, personally, a fun way for him to pass the time. Cleaning and coming up with theories - it was shaping up to be a nice day.

"Yeah, Jer. What'd ya have in mind?" Wash intoned encouragingly.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 10, 2012 12:51 am

"Well..." Jerry shifted, flushing slightly as the other men looked to him for direction. It was an odd feeling. He had tried to lead teams before and it hadn't always turned out very well.

He cleared his throat, "We get what debris we can, then get together a group- try to recruit some Deathers and do a sweep for the traps. After that... well. I mean.. we don't need a school anymore, obviously. But the building is still here and plenty sound. We can do more investigation if we know we won't get maimed by Shadows or traps, and it'll b ea great place for... you know. People to meet. There's teh rec-room but some things need more. I mean, if I could get the hunter choir together- the acoustics in the hall there would be way better than the training field, ahahaha... but that's a far-off goal still I think." He sagged again, once more looking deflated and burnt out.

Melvin listened a moment, looking down the hallways and taking in the potential more than how terrible the place looked down. "You want to convert this place into something more useful, right?" He had a habit of clarifying what was already said. "If we're already cleaning, then it makes sense to clean with purpose. I'm sure all those invested in the project would want to claim a room, and this school has plenty. Why not organize a party to work on it. Either hit it in one go or room by room still the wings get done in segments and can be painted and renovated. If we fix up all the other departments and have the material, then that means it is available." He started to sweep again.

"Better now than later consider the rate I hear people go around here." That and missions. Melvin was more curious about why they were cleaning this place. Then again, having a room for his own other than his dorm sounded inviting.

"That's a great idea, Jerry!" Wash exclaimed cheerily. "It'd be great to, you know, see some life in these halls again."

"Rate people go...?" Wash frowned, glancing at Melvin. Go where? Surely he didn't mean... No. No, he had a good handshake. His confusion over Jerry was understandable - the man had a tendency to look a little rough around the edges as of late, but that - you didn't speak ill of the dead. Or so brusquely.

Melvin got a cold look from Jerry, his hands tightening on his broom as he had hefted it up. The trainee had been here what, a week? A month? What did he know about death tolls. And besides... as many people who fell, there were always new recruits waking up to replace them. Part of a machine.

"We'll tidy for now. Figure the rest out... later. When we aren't repairing the whole town." At least it seemed the fog dragon was gone... for now. But who knew how long it would be before the next creature.

For now, he was happy to busy himself in mundane tasks, think about nothing but clearing the walk path.
