(( I bet, its also quiet nice looking))
Birchbark slowly started to settle as the doe started to help him sort of his thlay. It was hard to do it himself, he hadn’t gotten the hang of it yet and he was to wary to ask anyone for help. But the calming familiar motion had his thrumming back legs still and his small ears lying softly against his head and back. “I’m Birchbark, my marli went with Inle’. My whole warren did. Well, not Dogwood and me. We came here because my marli told me about the hill that Frith touched and lit up protecting it from elil of all kinds.” He was no longer quiet so sad. The Owsla here made him feel welcome, they were by no means his marli but they were kind.

The red doe froze for a couple of heartbeats before continuing to groom the kitten. He hadn't said that the warren had died from disease, and the kitten didn't reek of sickness. It would be all right. It wouldn't be like those other hlessi who came with Inle at their heels. No, this had to be different. The owsla wouldn't make that mistake twice, right? Poor Birchbark. No Marli, but at least he'd found his way to a new warren without being picked off by the thousand.
"Poor thing," she said shakily, "What luck that you managed to get here."Perhaps Oxlip had burned himself out with that great spurt, perhaps he relaxed for a moment because he thought he'd win. In any case he started slowing down when he was less than half way back to the bushes where they had started. He could see Ragwort getting closer and closer, but there wasn't a lot he could do about it. The spotted buck did his best to push himself, but as he crossed the finishing line he wasn't sure if it'd been enough.

Ragwort had indeed managed to get out of his funk, and was speeding ahead as if his life depended on it. Oxlip had managed to secure quite the advantage over him, but the white buck seemed to be slowing down. He was determined to win, or at least catch up. As he closed in on the bushes he was alongside the smaller buck, but when they both reached the bushes it was impossible to tell who had won.
"Hey!" he called after catching his breath, "Who got here first?"
If it was impossible for Rags to tell, it wasn't any easier for the rabbits that had watched them run. It would have taken a photo to tell who reached the bushes first, and nothing like that was available to rabbits. For all intents and purposes it had been a draw.

Birchbark was a little saddened when he could no longer see the bucks. Hey had long gone over the crest that he could see. He felt the doe beside him pause and he turned to look at her with one rust colored eye. Then the grooming resumed and he sighed. “Not so much luck as it was Frith. Without him Dogwood and I would have missed the warren we were so tired. But Frith shone brightly and the warren glowed with his protection.” He was so glad that Frith had shown them. They had nearly started to go around the wind so strong.

Roseroot stood on her hind legs for a moment to see what happened with the bucks. She then pointedly turned her back to them and focused on the kitten. The sad story tugged on her heartstrings. An entire warren visited by Inle, that part nearly scared her tharn, but he was just a little kitten. In the end her motherly instincts won out.
"You can always come to me if you miss your Marli," she said, "And there is enough space in my den." She had dug it herself, and it sometimes felt too big after her litter had moved out.--- A draw? Really? Oxlip was disappointed in his failure to stay in the lead, but the dark grey buck hadn't managed to beat him at least. None of the rabbits nearby seemed to have seen who had won, so perhaps it had been too close to see any difference. He almost wanted to ask for another race with the buck. "Good race," he said gruffly. --- "Yes," he agreed, "It was a nice one. Thanks Oxlip."
Ragwort wasn't as worried over not winning. He hadn't lost either, so it was all good. He touched noses with the white buck before going back to his interupted silflay. He wondered if any of the does had noticed his running skills. He groomed his face, and looked around. That one over there perhaps, wasn't she looking his way?((should we call this ended, or would you like to continue for a while?))

Birchbark gazed after the bucks as Roseroot did, but he couldn’t see them. When the doe suddenly turned his ears spread and he tried harder but failing to do so dropped down and relaxed again contently for the moment. Then as Roseroot’s words he shivered. “Oh thank you! It’s lonely; the den I am in is empty but me.” He moved closer some and started grooming Roseroot clumsily for a bit before he flicked his head. “Are they done yet? I can’t see them they are so fast.” His ears again spread open and he tried standing on his hind legs again. “Oh! Yes my names Birchbark.” He said as he looked at her on a second thought.
(( I think Birchbark would be disappointed if Ragwort didn't follow up on his promise of letting him play to. Birchbark wanted to try racing as well. Roseroot made me laugh hard. XD Full out dismissal to the bucks flirting actions! Tell me if the text to to hard to see please. ))

Roseroot turned back to check up on the bucks for Birchbark. They weren't running around disturbing other rabbits, and that was a good thing.
"I think they are done, Birchbark," she said, "The white one is grazing again at least. I'm Roseroot, just stay close to me from now on and I'll take care of you."
The darker buck was moving their way now so she quickly turned her back again. Running around like fools and nearly flattening kittens in the process was not acceptable behaviour! --- Ragwort had nearly forgot his promise, but when he saw that the kitten had company he figured he might score some easy points with the doe. Now let's see if the kid still wanted to play, or... if the doe was up for some 'playing'. She looked a bit aloof at the moment, but she might warm up to his charms.
"Hallo," he said and winked at the kitten, "Awesome race, right?"

+Birchbark+ Birchbark nodded. “Thank you for the name.” He turned an excited circle as Roseroot said they were done and as if in agreement the buck from before returned to their area. He knew nothing of adult’s games, only interested in a race. “Yes! You were both so fast!” He was trembling in excitement, having been a long while since he could play. “Now can I race to please?” He did not understand Roseroots dismissive stance and nearly made to pounce her. “Roseroot do you want to play to?” He tried to relax a bit, but instead he moved so he was face to face with Rose and bumped his nose against her perhaps a bit to hard. (( ooc: >< Ragwort might be barking up the wrong tree. Roseroot seems a very serious doe. ))

Roseroot had a lot more tolerance for small rambunctious bucks than for adult ones, so Birch had nothing to fear. She smiled as he jumped around in his excitement. She didn't approve of grown bucks disturbing the peace, but she wasn't about to deny Birch his fun. However, she would not go as far as to join the racing.
"I think I'll just watch this time, love," she said, "You have fun. Just don't run anyone over."
She gave Ragwort a pointed look as she said this. --- The kitten was adorably excited and Rags basked in the glory of being idolized. Oh yeah. He glanced at the doe, but she still seemed utterly unimpressed. Oh, well...
"My name is Ragwort," he said, bowing his head to the kitten and the doe in turn, "I'll make sure not to run anyone over madam."
It had been an accident... And the kid was fine, look at him!
"Here," he said, "try to catch me!"
He dashed off, and then stopped and turned to see what Birch would do. He didn't go full speed this time, to give the kitten a fair chance. And... um... also because he was a bit tired after the race. Playing with this little dude would show the doe how good he was with kittens, but he truly liked having a good time so it wasn't just ulterior motives.

+Birchbark+ Birchbark nodded hurriedly. “I promise I won’t.” He smiled. “If I do I bet I will bounce off like a pebble!” He jumped and moved to Ragwort, nodding as the buck gave his name. “Mines Birchbark.” He was quiet proud of his name, gotten from the stripes across his side like the ones running through a Birch tree. Eyes sparkling with delight he took after Ragwort when the buck let out the challenge. He was enthusiastic in running toward the older and faster buck. Being so young he ran fast due to weighing quiet little. Even so he stumbled some and nearly went rolling. He was trying hard to catch the buck, unaware Ragwort might be going easy on him.

All of the noise was attracting the eccentric buck Valerian, who was just on his way from a circle around the down. He stopped short of Roseroot and looked toward the kitten. "A new arrival? He looks a little young to be out here."

Roseroot turned towards the buck that had just arrived. She had seen him before, and remembered his unusual colouring, but she couldn't remember his name.
"Even the little ones have to eat," she said, "He lost his family but I'm watching over him."
Watching over the young always seemed to calm the nervous doe. If she only had herself to worry about she could nearly make herself tharn just from thinking about the horrors out there. But somehow, when she had someone else to care for she was better at keeping herself together. It didn't make sense, but she thanked Frith for giving her the strength when she needed it. --- Ragwort was impressed at the kitten's speed, and he zig zagged across the meadow, working his way back to where they came from. It wouldn't do to get too far from the doe, right? When he was nearly back he slowed down some more to see if the kitten would 'catch' him.
"Can't catch me," he called in a taunting voice.

+Birchbark+ Birchbark set his ears ever slightly back and lowered his head then charged straightforward not bothering to zig and zag knowing from his stumbling paws he might just fall. His small heart was pattering away and his little claws did little to the ground even if it seemed to Birchbark as if he were tearing burrows into the ground by the force of his running. Since the buck had not gone straight, and stopped Birchbark caught up, only to not have his eyes open and zoom past. Luck had it that he tripped and was sent rolling to a halt instead of running down the meadows hill. Panting he opened his rust colored eyes and stared in a bit of fright at Ragwort who was behind him, and not in front. Looking around his eyes widened and his back feet thumped the ground. He was in some small bit of panic, not certain how this came about. (( ooc: XD Poor Birch, tried so hard now he scared himself. ))

Valerian laughed and sat up. "Well look at that speedy little kit go, very interesting..."
He hopped over toward the small kit slowly. "Now why are you making that noise? There's no elil about. I would know, I see the down every day. Have you a name, little kit?"

Roseroot hurried over to Birchbark. She made sure he was in one piece and groomed a ruffled tuft of fur on his head. She knew all to well what it felt like to manage to scare oneself so she didn't laugh, and didn't scold him.
"Careful," she said in a low voice, "You're all right." --- Ragwort laughed as the kitten rushed past and then went tumbling. He slowly made his way over and nodded in greeting to Valerian. The kid seemed to be okay, if a bit frightened.
"Clearly I'm no match for you," he said, and winked at Birchbark, "You're way too quick for me."
