Cheveyo was silent as he guided them to the growth of trees he wanted to look at. He was not sure how best to answer back and decided to think about it before opening his mouth. The trees were not much further so he focused mainly on his response.
"I try my very best to keep and open mind about everything. You never know what someone has been through" Cheveyo gently explain with a slight bowing of his head in respect.
He smiled brightly as the tree's came into view, leaves of a green so vivid and light they looked yellow.
"Look" he said as he danced slightly as they walked, almost tripping himself again on his own hooves. Cheveyo trotted up to the trees and raised his nose to a low branch to breath in the scent of the leaves.

Pavlov was looking, he was looking a little conned if truth be told. Staring down at him were hundreds of leaves armed to the teeth, well, with TEETH! He drew back a little and watched his companion as he had many times when he was with others. They were often the best barometer for dealing with these situations. If they remained calm and didn't look like they about to be descended upon by flesh eating leaves (because what else could those teeth be for?) then odds were it was just another cruel trick of his mind. He hoped...

Cheveyo, lost in his own thoughts of leafy trees, root systems and such, did not notice the look on Pavlov's face at first.
"This branch looks dead" Chev murmured to himself. Slowly he turned to look at it from different angles.
"Yes I think it should come down" nodding proudly he turned to Pavlov to ask his opinion.
"What do you think....." Cheveyo stopped in his tracks as he turned to face Pavlov.
"Pavlov... what's wrong?" He was not sure what had affected the stallion but was concerned.
"I know the leaves give off a strong scent but if you breathe through your mouth it's not so bad" Chev explained still uncertain if he had stepped down the right path.

At the mention of the word "dead" Pavlov had stiffened quite a bit. But as Cheveyo continued he continued to watch the leaves as one by one they seemed to fall towards him. And while terror was nearly seizing the stallion, he saw his companion react with only concern towards him. "I...um...uh...Nothing!" he said quickly. "Nothing's wrong but I, um - I think you're right," he added stepping back from the tree because, really, you never could be too careful. "I think the scent might just be a little much for me..."

(Sorry my posting is getting more spread out - class and work is already pilling up ^^; Oh but that is a cute familiar Chev has!)

He tried to watch Pavlov's expression without full on staring at him. Cheveyo did not want him to feel like he was being overly concerned. Until he knew what was truly bothering Pavlov, Chev did not want to make a big fuss. Nodding to Pavlov he said,
"Ok, they bothered my nose too at first." Cheveyo looked at him and gave a comforting smile.
"Just let me take care of this branch, I wouldn't want it to fall on someone." The branch looked like it would come down easily. Raising up on his hind legs he braced his front on the tree trunk. He managed to link his tines with a small branch on the limb. The limb came free with a dry crunching sounds. Cheveyo carefully lowered himself back to the ground and with a few gentle shakes dislodges himself from the dead branch. Cheveyo turned to Pavlov
"Welp lets move away from here so the scent isn't attacking your nose anymore." He gave a gentle laugh but watched Pavlov carefully.

(That's ok! I totally understand smile Thank you! he's my first familiar. I won him playing pictionary ^.^)

Pavlov forced a laugh and said, "Yeah...that might be nice." And getting away from the chompy leaves would be very nice too. "Do um, branches Normally fall at their own will?" If so, that could explain a few of his past experiences. It was kinda common practice for him to close his eyes when he encountered something...unfamiliar. If he did that and then a branch fell on him...well that was a much more comforting thought, really, at least in the long run.

"Hrrmmmm" Cheveyo thought about the question as he trotted over to Pavlov facing the the direction he was thinking about heading next.
"I know that when the branches are dead they usually drop off on their own." He shifted his weight from side to side as he thought further about it.
"There are stories my people tell of some who can commune with the earth" Cheveyo smiled.
"It sounds like the soquili who can see aura's. It would be wonderful I think to commune with the earth that way." He laughed
"If it ever happens I'll be sure to ask the tree's. How about we go see the pine forest? The smell is lovely and the needles feel funny under your hooves." Cheveyo perked up and started to trot slowly towards the direction he knew the forest to be in.

"Wait..." Pavlov said quietly, still mulling over what Cheveyo had said. "What do you mean 'auras' and nature speak?" he asked again, a little more determinedly. "The trees talk to them? Talk to each other?" he questioned anxiously.

He stopped and turned back around to face Pavlov.
"Auras are a feeling or a colored glow that some can see radiating from living things. These auras are said to represent the feeling or personality of said living thing." Cheveyo nodded carefully as he tried to remember the stories of the forest people.
"At least those are the stories I hear. I haven't meet anyone with the ability to do so." He looked off into the dark of the night as he gathered his thoughts.
"There are some legends of my kind where a few were gifted the ability to commune with the earth, see how mother nature was feeling." Carefully he lowered his nose to the earth and breathed in the scent of it.
"I believe that all of nature can communicate with each other." Cheveyo raised his head and looked at Pavlov to make sure he hit all the major points. This was something he liked to discuss but sometimes other soquili thought the idea a little strange.

"Oh..." the stallion murmured, more than a little crest fallen. That certainly wasn't what was happening to him. It wasn't colors that he saw but terrors - monsters, the vile creation of his twisted imagination (at least he hoped it was his imagination, though he never could be sure what was truly real and what was not real).

Realizing that the horned stallion was regarding him, Pavlov straightened up. "I mean," he started, struggling to regain the little manners he had. "They sound very interesting. I suppose in your own way you do kind of commune with the earth, don't you? I mean, you can see things that others don't - like the branches ready to fall..."

Cheveyo noted mentally that his answer did not exactly seem to be what his new friend was looking for. He felt bad that his answer didn't seem to satisfy whatever Pavlov seemed to be searching for. Chev still decided he would not push and just ask him. He too had his own secrets that he kept to himself.
"I guess....in a way..I do" Cheveyo straightened up slightly proud of himself.
"I always thought it would be neat to be able to commune with the earth. The stories of shamans and witch doctors always interested me." Cheveyo glanced up at the night sky and breathed in as he thought about those stories.

"Really?" inquired the stallion softly. "I've always found them to be a little, um frightening, myself. The strange chants and face paints..." Not to mention of the few Soquili Pavlov had spoken with when he was a young foal - not an innocent or pure foal by any means, but certainly not as tainted as he was now - had frequently suggested that the strange youngster should be taken to see a witch doctor or some sort to 'cure' him of his constant mutterings of "Not there! Not there!" Of course right around that time the visions would become intense and Pavlov ended up running away from them and the 'concerned' Soquili as they called themselves ("I'm just concerned for you, sweety," they said with a sincere enough voice, but Pavlov never liked their eyes.)

"The shamans here must be a little scary" Cheveyo snorted gently.
"I only met one in my homeland and she was very nice, a little strange but I think that's what made her such a good soul." He beamed remembering fondly the stories the old lady would tell him.
"I haven't met any shamans or witchy people here yet." He thought about everyone he had met thus far.
"Nope just some nice Soquili." Cheve smiled and breathed in the night air.

"Then you are very fortunate," Pavlov sighed wistfully. "I have not always been so fortunate." He added quickly worrying that he might of offended, "Not tonight, of course, tonight I find the company very kind, exceedingly kind. Really, I appreciate what you've done in showing me what you have."

Cheveyo looked at his new friend feeling a pang of hurt for him at the way he sighed. That sigh was something he was familiar with.
"I'm sorry that fortune has not always been kind to you Pavlov." Chev pawed the ground and looked at Pavlov.
"Well, should you ever need a friend I will be at your side" He bowed his head to Pavlov. Cheveyo knew this could happen at a moments notice and kick you while you were down. He felt, having been through his own tough times that he could help somehow.
