He was starting to feel the first stings of what came down to pride, but it wasn't pride or a sort of sympathy for his weapon. If she was insulted, he wouldn't care. It was the news that his status and his respect on the island and among his peers were not soley in his control, but based on the performance of a creature he didn't care for or even liked. That sort of power made him uncomfortable, and for her to be insulted meant that he in turn wasn't meeting some bar that other hunters were well above. It didn't matter who or what he was as long as his weapon worked and worked in a way that impressed others. If all she could do was throw eggs, he felt he was in trouble.

Sadly, he always talked to Sydney and there was no exchange program with weapons. He was stuck with Saliva and her strange choice of ammunition.

While Rep laughed, he adjusted one glove and returned the gun back to the proper hand, pretending that this wasn't getting to him in the slightest, and felt like having an argument more with Saliva than the red-head, but that wouldn't work well either.

"Eggs. My weapon is a worm of some sort." He pointed out, explaining that it at least wasn't a chicken - though it wasn't much of an improvement. At least chickens ate worms. Saliva was something lower in his book, and he could sense that she felt his thoughts on the matter. He turned her over to examine the glowing, green case on the underside of the weapon were a few eggs rolls about. "I certainly didn't get the pick of the litter."

You can Jack off, Melvin. You're no prize either!

"What is your weapon?" He wanted to move past Saliva and to other matters, something to raise an image that his weapon was only destroying with each failed performance test.

"Wow. Eggs. That's ******** gross man I swear. A worm's pretty ******** up." He tried the term out for size. "A big ******** egg vomiting worm. Classy." His mood seemed to at least be on an upswing, his smug toothy grin very much firmly fixed in place. It was always nice to find someone who seemed to be suffering at least as much if not moreso than he was.

"Tracey's a ******** fallen angel. Like with the wings and the feathers and the musical voice and s**t. If that makes you feel any better." he almost guiltily admitted this fact, still privately a little embarrassed he wasn't wielding something badass like a dragon or some other human devouring creature. Instead he got a guy who sounded almost exactly like a woman and probably would have looked like one when he was alive too.

friends do that quite enough for both of us.>

"I'm sure with time maybe the... eggs will be.. scary?" he coughed pointedly. "Erm. Or like, maybe not. Well."

He looked away lazily, looking thoughtful. "You are sure you are too scared to spar? I just figure maybe we can see if he, she, it? Is able to do a little more than sad little green eggs when under pressure."

"It sounds like a she." He waited a moment for confirmation. "It's a she." Not that it really mattered, but if he was going to have discussions about weapons with other hunters, it seemed important to know what gender it was in discussion and to keep his weapon a little less insulted. "I really don't know what sparring entails. I'd be fine with it unless someone plans to take something like that..." To which he pointed at Tracey." ...and try to slice me in half. I'm not exactly Gladiator material." He wasn't overweight or even terribly weak, but he didn't make it a practice in college to try out for football and lift weights. His time and attention had been used in the labs, not on the field.

"If we go on another mission like the one before, I would like to keep any crazy...whatevers from using a scythe on me." Or lava or any number of sharp implements he saw being waved around during that fight.

He wasn't scared either, and if he was the type to pout, he would have. Instead, he just frowned, which wasn't that different from his current expression.

Oh he just didn't know what a spar was.

He just didn't know.

Rep's grin took on a very predatory edge as he flexed first one shoulder then the other, his posture deceptively casual and relaxed, like he was considering finding somewhere antisocial to loiter. But there was a dangerous almost mad edge in his tone as he went on.

"You weren't gladiator material. Very few of us ******** were. But weapons, well they make us more than what we were. Far ******** more. Not quite human anymore, not quite monsters. A spar is a ******** wonderful example of how much we have become."

He took a lazy step forward, looking like he was going to come stand a little nearer Melvin to speak. But at the last moment, as soon as he was in range, he lashed out, summoning the massive axe in both hands as he swung out in an attack.

"If you were a human right now. You'd be dead."

I'd know.

Melvin was listening, noticing the few steps towards him, but saw the man stop at just the cusp of where his personal bubble might have popped and caused the Life trainee to step back. Instead, he looked at him as he informed him more about how weapons defined a hunter, before everything slowed down.

Rep's hands raised, and suddenly the ax that had been a earring was returned, and the shadow it gave fell on the confused yet widening eyes of the trainee as he looked up and paled in an instant. There was a man with a massive axe raised before him, and that axe was now moving in his direction. He would have liked to think that some matrix speed would be gifted to him and he'd be able to dodge, but this wasn't a slender bullet he could slow-mo around (not that he was even remotely that flexible). This was a MASSIVE axe, and it was swung as if the Sun hunter was teeing off, and the force of such a blow hit him before his brain even started to think that it might have been a good idea to ******** MOVE!

The blow hit hard and he was thrown sideways into the trampled grass and crumpled there a moment as he held his ribs. "******** hell." He whined, his glasses skewed on his face as he curled in. His threshold for pain had been tested more in his first mission and this very moment than it had in years, and he gave a rough gasp of air as his side sang, but when his fingers gripped about his shirt, he didn't feel wet blood or a nice, ragged cut from where his upper half was now divided from his lower.

Looking down, he was still whole, and pushing himself to stand, he adjusted his glasses to look at Rep in a new way. "Are you A ********> LUNATIC?!! What were you trying to do?! KILL ME?!" He was more than pissed that someone threw a weapon at him, let alone out of the blue. Not to mention...that really HURT!

Rep's slightly mad laugh was the first thing he had to offer in the wake of the strike. He was still in his battle stance, axe in hand as he prowled over again, looking delighted with himself.

He ignored the fallen angel's comments, what did he know about tough learning?

Being called a lunatic was better than some of the things he'd been called in the past and he looked almost flattered at the comment. "Most people on this island are ******** lunatics you'll find the longer you stick around. As far as the ******** inmates go, I'm pretty ******** decent. Here I am giving you a handy shield lesson you might not get in the field. I feel like teaching you the point where it breaks. Something your weapon might want to ******** pay attention to."

He looked him over in a worryingly intent sort of way. "That is, if you don't run away like a cowardly nerd before then. "

And without a moment's hesitation he swung again, this time with proper intent to make it really sting.

Rep was right. He wasn't dead and he was still alive - if not a bit more tender than when they first met. However, it was more the action that he thought to throw an axe his way. Even if the hunter knew he had some sort of sheild to protect him, the idea that this might glitch out or might not be available to him wasn't even tested in a reasonable fashion before the man decided to throw his massive axe down upon him. Considering he had first fired his gun, he wasn't sure his weapon knew half the things everyone else on the island knew and was indeed just as new to the game as he was. Who knew if it wasn't bright enough to throw a sheild up to save him?! As it was, his weapon did throw up a shield and he came out of the first attack in one piece - literally still in one piece.

The state of the man's mentality already in question, the look the red-head gave him not to mention how he seemed to enjoy the act of throwing his weapon down on other people only made him want to call Time-Out, but playground law wasn't enforced here.

Now the Sun wanted to see what he would do. Basic human option was Fight or Flight, and since the first few seconds had left him stunned, running seemed to be now off the table.

This moron is going to kill you! Do something!

What the hell am I supposed to do? Ask if he wants to cuddle instead?!! This was not the time to joke, and before he could think, the axe came back again. If he wasn't being targetted, he might have commented the Sun on how quick he was with a weapon that should have popped the man's arms off through the force of momentum, but the red-head's hold was strong and the aim was unfortunately spot on. The gap in experience between them was clearly apparent, and the force hit hard.

Reintroduced to the ground, he curled as he looked down at the ground and gasped hard, his lungs aching as his ribs protested at even a short breath. It reminded him of the times he watched football with his father and he would wince as a man was tackled with the remark of 'That's gonna bruise.' followed by some jovial laughter. This would no doubt bruise and sting for a while.

s**t.........s**t..........oh man...

I can't hold up this shield forever. He wants to see you hurt. Come on you bag of bones. Get up and shoot at him!!

Aw ******** this hurts....

Just turn around and shoot him! Weapon! WEAA-POONN! Saliva was just trying to keep the trainee from being pummeled, but she had no control over the man's body or his ability to handle a blow.

The best he could do was assume that he would be given some time to attack, and he managed to titter himself to sit up, and then crouch slightly as he pointed his gun - and missed someone who was only a few ******** feet in front of him.

That wasn't me!

Watching the egg pod fly off somewhere past the Sun, he could only look up at the man. "Do over?" He pretty much knew the answer to that one.

Good, he was fighting back, that was progress Rep decided. A little late in the game perhaps but still, better late than never.

"No do overs. They won't let you do over. I won't let you do over." he pointed at the gun. "Again."

And just to make abundantly clear he meant it that it wasn't over, he swung with Tracey again, not to particularly hurt him. Just to light a fire under his a**.

"Thought so." He managed, nearly falling again but managing to brace himself when the axe swept through him. It was rather amazing that such a solid item could phase through him yet still have a force that could push him aside. Luckily this one was more easy on him, and he managed to stand up, but even then he felt light headed. That and he noticed some grass stained on his sleeve that really got under his skin.

I don't like this guy commanding me to do things. It's not MY fault you can't aim worth a damn.

How about you just shut up for 5 minutes while I try not to die.

Good luck with that. I'm bidding on muscles. He at least knows what he is doing.

Boosted with that vote of confidence, he aimed, and managed to fire one of the pods at Rep's side. It still wasn't spot on, but it at least hit part of him. Even that earned a small smile, though the pain reminded him that he shouldn't be patting his back when the score was still very drastically in the other's favor.

"Are you ..." He felt winded, but tried not to pant to hard as he adjusted his glasses and then brushed some grass blades from his hair. "...always this friendly?" He asked, having much preferred a fruit basket or a casserole as a welcoming gift to the hunter neighborhood than being hit by an axe.

Rep was having way too much fun toying with the Life hunter, as well as giving him a fairly crash course in combat wether he liked it or not. At least after this non consensual spar he would be prepared for a lot more, and perhaps even just a little bit more aware of the resilience of the fear shield.

He raised a brow as much to his surprise the blonde man finally managed to land a hit on target, the result sizzling against his fear shield. It stung quite a bit, especially for a weapon that up till now hadn't really been fired.

"Hahah, nice. Finally got a bit of fight in you eh?"

There was a moment where he took on that slightly glazed expression he took when he was conversing with his weapon, followed by a flicker of a smile and a smirk.

Closing the distance he leaned in to reach out to try and fleetingly seize a sleeve in his calloused hands, the crimson runes on Tracey flaring a vivid red as shadowy energy danced along the blade. Charged. The runes crackled as that same energy slunk around his arm, up past his throat and down the other arm, where they promptly vanished the moment they touched Melvin.

He might just have felt a bit better.

"Aye. Always this ******** friendly. Welcome to Deus, where you hit the ground running or you go back out in a body bag."

He let go.

"Good try at least. Maybe work up a charge next time?"

"Fight? I call it not wanting to eat dirt." He really didn't like the idea of laying face down on the ground and waiting for someone to just drag him back to his room. He doubted that sort of service was given here, and the term 'walk it off' was a common remedy in these parts. If this had continued, Melvin would have just pointed the gun at the other and told him to stop it there, ******** this lesson, and left. The point was made, and he got it. Really. No need for more axe waving to drive that point home.

It was then that he was grabbed by the arm, and he looked up at the other to tell him he could stand on his own and touching him wasn't required. In fact, this close, he could really note the pungent smell of man-sweat, making him even more tolerate of the other man's proximity. Then, despite how repulsed he was, a wave passed through him and the pain subsided, and he stood up a bit straighter as he took notice, before the man released him.

Adjusting the sleeve of his shirt, he tried to get what happened, and he wasn't one to just let it go without knowing. Part of science was asking and knowing.

"Wait, what's a charge and what was..." He gestured to the Sun's arm. "...whatever you just did." He felt better, but when it involved his body, he really wanted to know what others did to it.

Rep stood up straight again, still smirking as he dropped the axeblade to the ground and once again leant on the thing like a staff. He wasn't really rested enough to go a full battle in any event, though the bluff had apparently been effective enough to be passable.

"That was a charge. You hit enough halloween monsters - or on the island, other hunters enough, your weapon gets power and s**t. You'll know when its charged because it feels..really ******** good. Like really ******** good. That's your cue to get a lot more kick to whatever attack you do. Or, depending, maybe a heal. Like that one. Your weapon will know what to do when that s**t happens."

It had felt strange to direct Tracey's energy anywhere other than a flat out assault, he hadn't even been sure if it would work.

He crossed his arms with that same critical look he'd originally given the other man when he was sizing him up at first. "Do you feel better? I've never tried that s**t before."

It did feel good. Quick, before he picks up that axe. Just shoot him point blank. It will be fun. She almost hummed the words to him, and he looked at the gun as if she was crazy.

Yeah. I'd rather sit on a spike.

Come on. It will be nice payback. He seems like he'd get a laugh out of it.

Melvin didn't know enough about the man to profile him and take that risk. Personally, he'd rather not meet Tracey that way again, playtime or not. Spars were the things that he now knew were reserved for days he felt up to it and didn't have any plans after. Whether it was etiquette or just a kind gesture, if he wasn't going to be healed after a spar, he'd been laying face down on his bed for the rest of the day.

"I feel better." He admitted, rubbing an arm to see if it was sore and just take a general tally of how well he was doing. Slightly worn, but not bad. Still, he looked at Rep with slightly narrowing eyes. "I don't mind being the guinea pig once in a while, but...how did you heal me?" The man had touched him and he felt better. Something like that made him slightly suspicious and very uncomfortable.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 15, 2012 9:49 pm

"It wasn't me, It was Tracey. I just, dunno. Let him control the charge. Next thing I knew that shadow stuff happened and it worked out awright really. Its been a long time since I've had any kind of spar with anyone for certain reasons. So its new to me too." He still gave the other man a vaguely speculative look, as if he expected him to die any moment in a variety of interesting possible ways. But it didn't seem to happen. He was almost disappointed.

He rolled his eyes. Great, now even Tracey was being snippy.

"I mean, I don't think anything bad's going to come of it. And I probably don't have any illnesses that are like too contagious. So like, good. It seems to have worked. If you do die or something later, or turn into anything weird, would be nice if you could tell me about it, cause it might we worth knowing."

This was not the explanation he was looking for, and considering the man didn't spar much and rarely healed, he really had to wonder if luck was on his side that day to allow him not to be chopped on half during that first swing. Things could have turned bloody real quick and he doubted that with all the technology and weird magic that took place here that he was still getting used to, that they had a magic bandaid that could take care of being severed in half.

"Testing things out is one thing, but unless I'm seriously dying, don't let ...Tracey is it? ... don't let it give me any sort of weird shadow healing. No offense to you, but I don't want your weapon doing anything to me in any sort of way. Just keep it to yourself. Not putting down that help you just gave me.." Even if Rep did cause it. "...but just for the future. I don't like it." The idea of a shadow creature doing anything to his body touched on personal memories that made him uncomfortable and defensive. The least contact he had with them, the better. The point of being a hunter was to destroy them and to keep them from getting close. Sure, he now had a weapon, but he wanted to keep any other contact with them as rare and far between as possible. No touching. No healing. No magic tricks.

As he adjusted his shirt and felt more in need of a shower than ever, he regarded the man once more. "Never caught your name."
