Mephistopheles was again caught in the grip of the gyarados. Electricity crackled along his arm as he discharged it point blank once more.

Ruby avoided taking the electricity to the face this time, though it still struck him hard in the side. He was knocked away, twitching slightly.
The Duskull had them in a corner now - they couldn't use Bite again right away, and Payback was locked down for a few more turns. Using Torment again would be pointless. But those weren't the only tricks they had up their collective sleeve. "Ruby! Give 'im a Dark Pulse!"
The Gyarados stretched his jaws wide and let loose a nebulous stream of purple-black.

Mephistopheles was slammed into the canyon wall. He bowed before Ruby. "I concede. Thank you for the battle." Night fell upon the field, lifting to reveal the duskull at Lenore's side. The girl gave a short wave as they left.

"Oh, um... Yay!" That had been a bit... anticlimactic. But they'd won! Fin grinned as it sunk in.
Ruby emerged from the canyon to return to his trainer, coiling around her and murmuring a pleased "Dos!"
"Nice job, buddy!" Fin hugged as much of the Gyarados's face as she could fit her arms around, wrinkling her nose a bit at his breath, but still smiling broadly. "You showed him, huh, Ruby?"
"Gyarados, dos." Ruby was enjoying the feeling of victory. He could come to like this battling thing.
