Like a switch had been pulled, Lovely Corpse's demeanor changed and soon she was back to staring at the bird rather than Mandrake. The bird was still propped up against her hoof, or laying against, barely able to stand on its own. It seemed rather calm about the whole ordeal.
The pony gave out a short puff, adjusting her hoof to gently nudge the poor thing. It didn't move away, instead clinging lightly so that it wouldn't fall over.
"If'in ya know what ta' do wit' the poor critt'r, y'should take 'im. If somethin' 'appens and he doesn' make it, don' throw'im out, okay?"

Relief washed over Mandrake like a wave and she practically deflated; her posture loosened, her expression eased, and her ears folded back as she let out a quiet sigh. Her eyes closed for a second before settling back on the bird. It did seem kind of calm, which to Mandrake just meant either there was a strong chance it would survive or it was a lot more tired and in pain than they realized, which meant they needed to be faster.
"A-alright," she murmured, a little surprised by the turn around, "Um-- I guess-- what's your name? If you... really want it... if that happens."

"Lovely Corpse," she beamed, never having ever thought twice about the name she was given. It was morbid, though she had no idea, and took pride in it. "M'ah dad named me!"
She seemed so happy with it.
"Wha's y'er's?" she asked, plopping her bottom down as she looked back to the relaxed bird.

Lovely... Corpse...
For once, she wished she could say she was surprised.
"Mandrake Blossom," she offered tentatively. Though the other filly's name was less than savory, her enthusiasm about her dad naming her was...oddly endearing. Mandrake liked her own dad and even if Lovely was a little confused about what was rude, at least in Mandrake's mind, then that meant her dad was probably trying to teach her to be nice -- which meant he was nice.
Bending down on her front legs, Mandrake lowered her chin to the ground near the bird. They regarded each other for a moment, then Mandrake lifted her brows and glanced to the top of her head, then back at the bird. It reacted with a subtle twitch. She did it again and this time it moved a little, taking back to its legs, but still leaned against Lovely Corpse. Mandrake glanced up from the dirt at the other foal and gave a sheepish grin. "Think you can give him a leg up?"

Lovely Corpse watched in silent amusement as Mandrake recited her name, as well as her voiceless attempts at her requests for help. That toothy maw remained upright with a smile, especially when her fellow filly finally spoke up with her need of help. Of course she would help, why wouldn't she? She only had to ask!
Carefully scooping the bird up against her hoof, she lifted the poor thing up and carefully placed it on Mandrake's crown. The bird rested there, balanced just right against the filly as its wings kept it from falling.
"There!" Lovely Corpse exclaimed, happy with her companion's new 'hat.'
