Naito took to pacing, he was feeling jittery and nervous, too much energy to just sit there. He made sure to not stray too far from Lyrica, and tried to stay in front of her too. No one had ever asked him questions before.

"Questions, yes, alright. I can answer questions," he seemed to be talking more to himself than to her. He glanced at her quickly, pausing in his pacing, before he began talking again.

"I don't really know where I come from. I've traveled all my life. All the places start to blur together after a while, so I don't know where I started. I usually don't stay in one spot for more than a few days. I've had no reason to stay anywhere, and moving has always kept me safe and given me something to do."

He paused again, looking at Lyrica. His curiosity got the better of him.
"What are those things on your back? I've never seen them before. They're like a bird, but you're not a bird."

Lyrica was beginning to feel dizzy, watching him pace back and forth. She had never seen someone so jittery and nervous before. She smiled when he ask about her wings, and said he'd never seen someone with wings before. "They're wings. Though they don't do me much good, since they are so small. My mother had wings that allowed her to fly for short distances, but my father didn't, so I guess that's why mine never grew more than this." She fluttered them, just to show him how pretty they were when she did. She thought that perhaps if she sang a song, it might soothe his nervousness, and calm him down some, but she decided to ask him first. It would not do for her to just break into song suddenly. It might actually have the opposite effect on him, or make him think she was even stranger than he already did. "Do you like to sing Naito? I could sing for you if you like."

Naito watched Lyrica flutter her wings with growing interest, and had to consciously stop himself from reaching out to touch them.
"The way they catch the light is so pretty. They're super glossy and must be taken very good care of. I don't know if I've ever seen something so wonderful in all my life," he whispered, then blushed and looked away suddenly. He hadn't meant to say that aloud. Did he sound really lame just now?

He looked intently at the sky, avoiding eye contact at all costs. "It's a shame you can't fly with them..."

At her question, he dared a quick glance at her again. "I don't really sing, don't know how. But I would very much like to hear you sing. If your singing voice is half as lovely as your laugh, I'm sure it's divine."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:53 pm

She laughed and said, "I don't know about it being divine, but the young ones around here like it well enough. Let me see, what shall I sing for you?" She thought for a moment and then clearing her voice began to sing.....

Traveler, traveler, roaming far
Underneath the evening stars
Over hill and over dale
Subject of many a tale.

Never settling in one place
Never knowing a warm embrace
All alone most every night
Lying by the firelight.

Many sights your eyes have seen
Skies of blue and fields of green
Oceans deep and moutains high
Eagles soaring in the sky.

Traveler, traveler, roaming far
How adventurous you are
Come and stay with me a while
I will make it well worthwhile.

She finished, and waited for him to say something. She hoped he liked the song, and that he didn't take offense at it.

He frowned slightly, unsure why she was laughing at him again. Perhaps it was a joke he didn't understand. Before he had time to think upon it further, she began to sing. Her voice was far lovelier than he could have ever imagined, and he immediately found himself entranced. It took a second before he realized, or at least he thought, she was singing about him. He took a tentative step closer to her, then another, until he was so close they were almost touching.

When she stopped singing, he felt a slight stab of disappointment. And it took a moment before he could find his own voice.
"Your voice is the most lovely thing I have ever heard, far lovelier than the tunes of a thousand birds. Perhaps divinity doesn't begin to cover it at all." He broke eye contact briefly, feeling nervous and shy again, unable to look her in the eye. "I.. I would very much like.. to stay with you.. if that is alright..."

She wondered what he was doing, as he inched ever closer to her as she sang. When she finished the song, he was almost standing on her paws. She looked up at him, standing over her and stared into his eyes. He had the darkest shade of purple eyes she thought she had ever seen, and she thought if she sat there staring into them for much longer, she would lose herself in them. When he spoke, it broke her out of her trance. "Why thank you Naito. I am glad you like my voice." She then got the distinct impression that he thought the song was all about him, when in fact it was one her mother used to sing to her as a child. For she wasn't quite sure what he meant by 'stay with you'. "I didn't think you wanted to come back to my home with me Naito. Have you changed your mind from just one little song? Not that I wouldn't like to show you my home, but you don't have to if you don't really want to."

Suddenly feeling foolish, he backed away from her. He looked around nervously.
"I-I'm very sorry" he stuttered. "I don't know what I was thinking, very rude of me. I shouldn't have.. don't know what I was thinking. It's very kind of you, but I shouldn't. I'm sorry." He had continued backing away until there was a fair amount of distance between the two of them. His stance lowered slightly, as he gave her an apologetic look.

"I'm sorry if I've made you uncomfortable, that was never my intention. I just.. find you to be inexplicably charming, more so than any other I have met. I've not meant to be an imposition and am sure I've taken up far more of your time than I deserve."

His behavior was totally baffling her. As he backed away and apologized, she had to wonder what it was she had said that had brought on this reaction. She certainly had not intended to make him feel as though he was intruding on her time. Hadn't she been the one to initially invite him to her home and show him how to cross the river? Would she have done all that if she didn't want to spend some time getting to know him? She had to find out what it was that was bothering him.

"Naito, please stop. I do not think you are rude, nor do I think of you as an imposition on my time. I am most glad of your company today, as I would otherwise have spent it alone. You have not made me uncomfortable, and I fear I am the reason for your sudden wish to leave. If I have said anything to upset you, or give you that impression, I apologize. Please don't leave. I would be more than happy for you to come back to my home, and spend some time here. You have traveled to so many places that I have only dreamed of seeing. I have so many questions to ask you about the places you've been and the sights you've seen. If you leave now, how will I get my answers?"

No one had ever been curious to hear about where he'd gone before. Though most had not been around long enough for extended conversations.
"I'm just not used to conversation. Usually the Medaria I meet will leave very quickly. They seem angry about something, I assume I have offended them in some way or another. I was worried I would similarly offend you and leave you with a poor impression of me. I would never wish to do that so thought it might be best if I took leave before you did."

He stood a little taller, giving her a sheepish grin, as though embarrassed. "I would be very happy to answer any questions you have for me.. and would be willing to answer them here, or at your house." He gulped, pausing before he continued. "I'm sure houses aren't horrible, and it could be one more place to add to my travels."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 14, 2012 11:08 pm

Well, that explained a lot. At least he wasn't crazy; he was just unaccustomed to being around other medaria. Perhaps they would be able to form a friendship of sorts after all. "No, houses aren't horrible at all, and some can be much more comfortable than a cave. Mine is not overly large, but there should be enough room for the two of us to be comfortable. Come on, I'll show you the way." She got up and headed off back downstream. "It's not far from here at all," she called over her shoulder as she walked, not turning back to see if he was following, for she certainly hoped that he was.

Naito hesitated only a moment before following after her. He kept distance between them, recalling something about "personal space." It was hard to imagine something more comfortable than a cave, perhaps the roof didn't leak after rain. That would certainly make it more comfortable.

"So.. do you live with anyone else? Perhaps.." he trailed off, unwilling to continue. He cleared his throat, trying to sound non-nonchalant. "Perhaps a guy or.. something?" He nodded to himself, thinking that sounded alright.

"Not like it matters or anything," he quickly added. "I just wanted to know if I.. we're going to run into.. see anyone else." He stumbled through the line, uncertain of the correct wording. He had never worried about what he said before. It was exhausting.

"No, I live alone. My tree trunk isn't really large enough to support two for more than a night or two. I'd have to search out a better place to live for that. But we will be dry and warm for the night, don't worry." She sniffed the air as she turned away from the stream and headed into the woods. "I think it might rain again today, and I for one don't like getting wet." It didn't take long for her to lead him to the dead tree she had made into a home. Sometime in the distant past a bolt of lightning had struck the tree, causing the trunk to split in two, and topple over. Eventually, the remaining upright side of the trunk fell over as well, and made a good roof for her home. When she found it, there was much work to do, in order to make it livable, and it had taken her many days, but she now had a place she could call her own, and defend quite easily against any attackers. Not that she had ever had occasion to defend herself in that way. This was a relatively quiet part of the woods. She stopped before the entrance to her home and said, "Well, here we are. I'll go in first and you can follow."

He was relieved to hear that she lived alone. He watched with interest while she sniffed the air. When she stated that it might rain that night, he stopped and sniffed the air too. It didn't smell any different than usual, perhaps he just couldn't smell it?
"You can smell rain?" He asked, sniffing the air again. It smelled like forest to him.
She stopped at a tree that had been struck by lightning, and he could see the changes made to make it habitable. Overall, it appeared natural, and may have been easy to overlook if you weren't trying to find it. He stopped walking a little ways away from it, his nerves kicking in again. Surely there was nothing to be afraid of. Lyrica stopped at the entrance and invited him in. He hesitated momentarily.
"Alright.." he said, taking a few cautious steps towards her and the house. "I would be.. quite honored if you would show me your house."
Was this the right response?

She was so intent on making her way to her home that she completely overlooked his question about the rain. "Sorry about not answering you back there about the rain thing. Yeah, I seem to be able to tell when it's going to rain. Something about the moisture in the air. I understand that not all of us can do it." She nodded to him in response to his statement, and walked through the opening under the fallen tree. Once inside, she turned around and called out to him, "Okay, your turn."

Naito gulped, steeling himself before stepping over the threshold. He followed Lyrica through the opening. It was a bit darker inside than it was outside, and his eyes took a second to adjust. He blinked, rubbing them with his paw. When he opened them again he could make out many foreign shapes, but none of it seemed intimidating or scary. For the most part, it just all seemed baffling. What could it possibly be used for? He took another step closer to Lyrica, looking around the "house."

"It is.. unusual..."
