She would be watching. The very thought sent a visible shiver down him, and she vanished into the dark recesses of the swampy land she called home. He thought it was strange to have met his first Kimeti, and that she would be a Legendary at that. He felt a little sad when he thought about her. Most kin sought her out only for blessings?
Maybe we'll meet again, and we'll be friends. I have stories I could tell her. Dusty was ripped from his thoughts when an owl hooted. He leaped up, eyes frantically searching the darkness for the source of the sound. He couldn't see anything, though, and eventually his heartbeat began to slow. Warily, he lay back down, and stared at the stars.
They were quite beautiful here, viewed through the framing of treetops and vines. They twinkled brightly in the dark night, seemingly closer here than on the sand dunes. He found himself drifting off, almost sleeping, lulled into a peaceful state until a rattling, repeating noise stirred him awake again.
Dusty watched the shaking swamp grasses with curiosity and fear. Something was approaching. He stood, cautiously, and waited. Eventually the thing making the noise revealed itself. A shining, albino snake stopped to stare at him.
Its tongue flicked in the air, its red eyes studied him. Dusty wasn't sure if he should attack or stand his ground, but after a few minutes of breathless stalemate the snake lost interest and slithered away again. Its pale, scaly body caused ripples in the grass and water as it passed, and he recognized the beauty of it.
Letting out a sigh of relief, he turned his eyes to the lightening sky. It was getting pinker. Sun was coming soon. Dusty glanced at the shrubbery around him, noted a pair of glowing eyes for a moment, and then they vanished.
Probably nothing to worry about... Probably nothing. He felt much less frightened now, more familiarized with the strange surroundings. Dusty smiled to himself, proud of his accomplishments.
