Grinsen watched the darker lion slink off into the night. It was hard to keep an eye on him without the wind to help, and thankfully just as Ciaran disappeared from sight the wind changed. Not in Grinsen's favor, but that was okay. He'd rather have the wind and his back to help hide his temporary hunting buddy. The herd didn't seem bothered by the shift, and they dozed on.

It took a few minutes for Grinsen to pick out the two flashes of light that he was looking for. Good...Ciaran was in position and facing this way. He'd had a perfect view to keep an eye on everything. Without much flourish, Grin stood and yawned widely. The sudden shift on the hilltop made the herd shiver and a few of the animals lifted their heads to see what was there.

Grin smirked slightly as he padded slowly down the hill, lowering his head to let the creatures know yes, he was coming for them. An alarm went up as the tired animals got to their feet, and the chase was on. Grin ran through the herd, snapping at heels and dodging wild kicks, keeping locked in on his target. He gave a low growl as the male finally got to his feet and managed to get a slash at his hindquarters in. Injured, half asleep, and terrified, the male ran head first in the direction Grin knew Ciaran was waiting. He gave chase a bit longer before letting up on his speed, hoping to confuse the animal enough so that it wouldn't realize where it was being herded.

Grin watched the male charge headlong into Ciaran's hiding place and let out a delighted roar as the beast went down in a blur of black and blue. Trotting over, he watched the last futile kicks of the male before it went still.

"Good job, partner," Grin said with a grin plastered on his face. He licked his lips but sat down, nodding at their kill. "You did the hard work, you get first dibs." He might be a slick sucker, but he still had some class. "Good job, by the way. You didn't even have to try twice."

Grin made a quiet 'pshhh' noise and waved a paw, but he accepted the offer. He moved up to the front of the animal and dug in, more than pleased with their efforts. This was a male three or four lionesses would take down, and they did it all on their own! Just went to show that males working together for the greater good were a force to be reckoned with.

After eating his fill, he sat back and began to clean himself up. Blood had a nasty habit of showing up for days on his light coat. "Well, that was lovely," he said as he yawned, now free of blood. "Thank you for your assistance." A glance up at the sky told him it was nearing dawn - there was a bit of pink on the horizon and the stars were slowly becoming less numerous.

"Oh dear...it's so early already," he said with a sigh as he pushed himself to his feet. "I've got to be off. Find a nice place to sleep before all the other creatures of the night do."

"Indeed," Grinsen said with a little bow of his head. 'It's been a pleasure to hunt with you. If we cross paths again, we'll have to have a reunion feast." He gave the darker male a final grin before heading off into the sunrise, wondering where his feet would take him this time.
