Vodnitvar sat there, his expectations grim, simply waiting for her to look him in the eye and leave. But instead he received an entirely different reaction, something he'd never felt before.

Immediately he felt his face go red, and embarrassment flooded his posture. But it felt wonderful, and he didn't really want the moment to pass. He would be fully content to lie here and hold her like this until she chose to back away. But she seemed more interesting in staying, and so with shaky paw Vodnitvar began to slowly pat her on the back. A slow, dull purr coming from deep in his throat. Her words were so comforting, words he'd never spoken before. Things, he himself had never really thought to take in.

He had simply taken his pride's reaction as his fate and that was that. But now his world had been opened to an entirely different scenario, and as hurtful as it was to think about. He had to admit she was right.

A faint smile appeared over the gruff lion's face, and he let out the only words he could think of. "Thank you .... Fireheart." Wrapping his paw gently around her shoulder, he tightened his grip. Fearful that if he let her go, she would simply disappear.

She had intended on just pressing against him to comfort him. She really had. But now that he had his paw on her back and she had heard and felt that purr, and he was so warm and big and strong and...uurgh. Fireheart knew she was in pretty deep trouble with herself now. There was no more pretending these feelings didn't exist. She had run up and bit the issue hard in the side, and now it had turned around to attack her.

She felt her own heartbeat speed up a bit as Vodnitvar tugged her closer, which of course just caused her to nuzzle against his soft mane a bit. Dang it...now she didn't want to move at all.

"Your pride was foolish for letting someone like you go," she added quietly after a few moments. "But ours is incredibly fortunate to have you here. I'm...I'm almost glad they kicked you out. I would have never met you if they hadn't." Arg, mouth, stop it! You shouldn't be saying things like that, it's just going to get us in trouble!

"And...and I'm very...very glad I did get to meet you. Not just because of all the priceless information you'e given me and lessons you'e taught me." Why wouldn't her own mouth listen to her? "For...other things as well."

Her gentle nuzzle only made Vodnitvar want to hold her that much closer, but obviously he didn't want to choke her or anything. Instead he held with his tight hug, allowing his purr to flow freely as he listened to her words. It was strange, how she always knew exactly what to say to him. But that didn't mean he wasn't grateful, everyone needed someone to hold close and dear. For him, whether she wanted it or not, that was Fireheart.

"I'm honored that I was able to meet you as well. Not just for the student pupil relationship we have. But because I think we have something much stronger." Impulsively his grip tightened without him realizing it. "I hope you would do me the honor of staying with me for as long as the gods want me here, Fireheart." His purring seemed to rise in volume as he quickly realized he might have been a bit impulsive in his speech. What if she wasn't ready to have something like that with him? What if she told him no?

All answers would come in due time, but in the mean time he would take her gentle embrace as a hopeful sign of his future.

Fireheart felt her heart begin to beat much faster, and she felt as though she were living up to her name. Her whole chest burned and felt very tight as Vodnitvar continued to speak, his words turning her mind to mush. Had he really just said that? Had he really just asked that? That means he felt whatever this was too...had Mother been right all those weeks ago?

The tightening of Vodnitvar's paw around her seemed to confirm that for her. She knew right then and there that there was no other place she'd rather be than by his side, through thick and thin. He had taught her so much, and she cared so much for him, there was no doubt in her mind of her answer.

"Yes," she said quietly, just above a whisper. She turned to press her face against his mane again, her forehead bumping against his chest. "Of course...I...I hope they want you here for a while." He was so much older than her, but in the grand scheme of things it didn't really matter. As long as he was here, she'd be grateful of every single second, including this one.

This was all quite sudden, it was true, but it felt so right. She felt like this was a long time in coming. Ever since she had felt that warm feeling in her chest whenever he was around, she knew that something was up. Something was different. And the fact that being this close to him and feeling him purr and hearing his words was making her giddy...well. That pretty much sealed the deal.
