Takoda wondered a bit about 'the great mother' were they all born from the same person? That would be quite a spectacle and a feat for one woman to have born every single alkidike that lived, and how old would she be by now? The sheer thought astounded him. No it couldn't be like that. Perhaps the woman was replaced every time she passed away. Yes that made a lot more sense.

"Great...mother? I've heard it referenced before...who is she? I've always been curious...but our people don't have a lot of information about yours. We mostly just warn the children not to anger the forest because your people will come and reap vengeance..." The idea of them being guardians of the forest made sense but most of his people either feared the alikides or were hostile towards them.

Takoda was on the prior half of that story, or was anyway. Since Phenyo had pointed out her people resembled flowers rather than bugs he felt..a lot more content to be around them.

The Great Mother...thinking about Her now renewed the loss and homesickness in Phenyo. She missed the great and beautiful branches, the leaves of shelter and birth...

"She is our Goddess, and our Mother..." she began, picking her words carefully.

Phen knew...knew...what she was doing went completely against everything she'd ever been taught. There were sisters and Elders back home who would have beaten the Alkidike into a bloody pulp for sharing any of this information with a Shifter. Then again, there were half-breeds like Rishi in the world, weren't there? Outsiders knew of the Great Tree...

"She is a great and beautiful tree, hidden deep in our lands. All Alkidikes are born from Her leaves, and those who are truly blessed can speak to Her as you and I are speaking now."

As she spoke, Phen's eyes started to glass over a bit. Yes, talking like this made her terribly home sick. It also made her miss Jera...but that was another thought entirely, right?

The shifter took in a moment to try and figure out the right way to answer her question. The elders had many stories about the alkidike, many were told as stories to keep children from wandering around at night or far during the day. The fact they did, somewhat resemble bugs didn't help with the fictional tales.

"Ah, the Elders told us to be wary in the forest, and to not invite the wrath of the alkidike upon us. So we try and live in harmony with the forest... Though there were for some time when I was younger anyway, grand stories that claimed that the alkidike could harness the power of the Menzuri and that if one of the crystalline beasts roamed too close to the town it was because the alkidike told them to go there." Takoda explained sounding a bit sheepish at the tall tale. The stories had spread when a series of unfortunate attacks between the alkidikes and the shifters had disturbed a Menzuri nest.

The great creatures had swarmed a shifters home stead killing many, injuring more. They had been forced to move the entire settlement for the Menzuri had refused to leave. Many elders blamed the alkidikes for the attack and thus that was how the story began.

In listening to him speak, Phenyo's antenna perked and twitched slightly, and a brow raised above one eye. She even laughed a bit - not at him, but at the very idea that the Menzuri could be controlled by anyone.

"Really? That's what your elders say about us?" she scoffed, flipping her hands to lightly grip her knees and lean forward. "Trust me when I tell you, if we could control those nasty beasts, there would be Elders pushing raids of your settlements daily."

Leaning back again, remembering it shouldn't be her place to terrify the poor Shifter, the look on her face turned...disappointed, and sad.

"Which is horrible...your people sound more afraid of us than anything else, and we're constantly being told you're here to steal our land and do harm to our Goddess."

Takoda felt himself blush, sure it wasn't exactly the leaders who thought such silly tales, but some of the older tribes men who were alive during those attacks certainly believed there was some truth to the tale. Some part of Takoda who was smiling at the silly story wilted at her comment. Ah...so the alkidikes were still rather hostile towards the shifters.

"Ah...no at least I hold no interest in waging wars...nor harming your ..goddess..I suppose we need...a place to call home. Everyone else seems to have a place to call home..I am sorry if.. we took yours..." Takoda wasn't really sure why he was apologizing to the alkidike, but some how he felt that at least one shifter should be sorry for the wars the battles...the needless deaths that had occurred over the centuries.

"Like all creatures we just need a place to be home to us...we worship the moon and though she can be found anywhere in Tendaji...she seems closer to is in the forests of Jahaur. Perhaps because of the trees...we can fashion homes in the limbs...and be that much closer to her."
