Malodore made a startled, though not displeased, noise. "Oh, ah... si," it replied, a faint flush coloring its hidden cheeks, buried far below layers of bandages and bone. It couldn't help but remember...
... well.
"You might, ah, be surprised," it said, voice muffled.

She was so comfortably snuggled in, and settled, that when the thought tried to escape from Malodore's mind, she caught it without even trying. Perhaps she wasn't meant to see that, but when she did, her eyebrows lifted up as high as they could go. She didn't move, but her temperature rose considerably as the blush rose to her skin.
Well, I wouldn't say that's forward of you, but perhaps.. perhaps for a later date. Not quite yet. Terrible. She was obviously teasing it, but it was for her own benefit as well. She hadn't been touched there in.. well. Best not to think about it.
Glad to see you're an open-minded individual, at least. Pun intended.

fsdhfisodbgdkgnsdf. Malodore winced, then buried its face in her shoulder. "I, ah, was... I have been taught how to shield my thoughts, really, I have," it mumbled, crimson under the mask.
"... Would you believe that was how we met? Or, er, became better acquainted? I knew very little of mindflayer anatomy prior, no hive came for treatment at my Casa..." Thankfully, it felt it didn't need to explain its past behavior minutely; its own traitorous brain seemed to have done that quite well all on its own.

Oh? At that, Riley looked thoroughly intrigued, and she turned her head up finally to look eye to eye with the plague doctor, one brow arched in surprise. And might I ask who is teaching you how to shield your precious thoughts from me? Had the plague doctor, at one point, considered her a threat? This was now priority information, for her.
It was hard to maintain her focused direction of thoughts when it continued to be so overwhelmingly charming. Then it was a fortuitous mistake indeed. Please, feel free to make further mistakes with me in the future, if they're going to come to such pleasant ends.

It sobered and looked up at her. "You did, before - though, ah, not from you, which is why I am so overwhelmingly bad at doing that." There was a hint of humor in its words, but that faded as it continued to speak. "I, ah, possess a number of memories that you may not wish to see. When you were weaker..." Memory flickered, of her wincing away from it in the Bogeyman headquarters, its own thoughts inadvertently battering her.

Riley finally sat up completely, now intrigued beyond the capacity of being distracted from it. She pulled it into her lap, curling her arms around it and holding it close. I am not weak, now. She informed it, infusing the presence of her strength into her thoughts. Tell me what you feel I should know. But..
Her head tilted down and rested against it's shoulder gently. Temper it with good memories. Perhaps a mix, hmm? Though it's presence, in her arms, was quickly becoming a good memory all on its own.

"Only if you wish it," it said, soberly, lifting its head to try and keep her gaze captured in its own. "I know that you are not the same as my memories; I know that it is... complex. But what I said before, about you as you are now being... someone familiar to me, someone I once knew that drew me close and captivated me... I meant that." It ducked its head then, as if a little shy. "But it will help you understand how people may react to you... and there is so much we learned, about so many different things. I would not want them to put you back in first year," it added, with a chuckle.

Malodore was offering her a wonderful gift. She felt a stirring in her heart when it told her that she had captivated it, and longed to have the chance to do it again. It seemed an impossible task, and yet she was so very willing to try.
I trust in what you say. She whispered. Show me the past. I will watch, through your eyes.

It opened its beak in a smile. "Va bene - just tell me if you feel things are too much, or if you do not want to see something. I will adjust..." It settled against her and opened its mind to her as completely as it could. There were so many possibilities, moments, relationships, knowledge... "Have you a particular place you would like to begin? A person or a thing you would like to know more about? Yourself, others?"

The question made her sigh with regret. I want it all, unfortunately. It's hard to pinpoint where to start. I would not be against starting at the beginning, truly, but I wonder if it is recent events that are of more importance for me to know. Can we.. ah. Let us start at the point where I began to teach you how to block thoughts, because that intrigues me. She couldn't imagine a single reason why she would teach it to block her. She wanted full access to it, in every possible way. The mere idea of it blocking her made her heart contract with pain. And then from there to the present, we will peruse. Then we can see what the past had in store for me, afterward.
She always did love spoilers.

"As you say, then." It let its eyes slip closed and sought that memory, holding it up to her - the discovery of its empathy, gained from its time spent sharing its mind with her. Exactly as they were doing now, really, and there was a faint mental chuckle as it recognized the irony. The empathy, the ability to reach out and see others... and the realization that others so gifted might do the same to it.
The knowledge of their feelings for each other, and the danger of such if discovered by the hive. Discovered by Andeon - in the memory, Riley was not afraid, not outwardly, but there were echoes that Riley as she was now might recognize, just in her movements. Malodore let it all funnel through its thoughts without any added commentary, other than what it had felt then.
And, for a moment, there was that flicker of the maskless void.

This method of data retrieval would be much slower than what she was used to, because here, she could interrupt. And as the memory came to her, she did just that. A gasp left her, and she blinked in shock of what she could suddenly realize.
I remember this.
She spoke of only one of the memories that had come to her, not all of them. There was one that she remembered with precise clarity. In fact, she remembered it exactly as Malodore thought of it-
Which, of course, meant it wasn't her own memory returning at all. This was simply a memory it had thought of before.
She willed her heart to stop beating a mile a minute.
In the cell. She murmured, with both relief and disappointment now evident in her voice. Ah, so this is why.. She chuckled, and closed her eyes. There was a moment of silence, before her brow furrowed and she opened them once more. I can't sense him. Has he left, then?

"I have not seen him," it said, quietly, "and I, ah... well, given what you had told me, I had no reason or desire to seek him out. Your hive discovering us would have likely meant my death, if not both of ours, so... you understand..." It folded its claws around her fingers.

I understand. She responded quickly. Her brow was still heavily furrowed. But even if he was not here, I should still be able to feel him. She took a deep breath, and shrugged. Perhaps it is the same ailment that has removed me from the hive collective. It might be blocking my contracts, as well. And true enough, when she tried, she couldn't feel a single one. Had I not yet marked anyone here, at Amityville? The thought surprised her..

"Oh, no, you had - Christof, and Jericho..." Its voice trailed off as its worries about the dragon hit it again, full-force. "The mark of contract burned off when you, ah... died, though." No real way to sugarcoat that one.
It took a deep breath to calm itself. "Jericho... I haven't been able to reach him. He hasn't been home, I don't think... we were recently...." Then it blinked. She didn't... "Do you remember what Hunters are, mia cara?" it asked, cautiously.
