"Do not fault yourself for this, Naamah." Leo reached out, hand cupping Rio's chin letting his thumb run along his jaw lazily. He hoped it would make Love look back at him. "It is my error in not telling you, as it is something that is not usually discussed. Just something everyone knows and never mentions. Émile is not alone, the entirety of Eglantine house dotes on him. At only five years old he is the youngest."

Rio did look back, feeling only a little better with Leo's assurances. He'd never been apart from Adi for more then the few weeks she'd been off with Elik, and that had been hard enough. And voluntary! How had Leo managed it? He didn't ask, however, as he didn't want to press his companion.
"Five?" He smiled a little. "That's older than Adi, you know."

Well, it helped that the D'Angeline did not feel like a parent most of the time. He leaned in and gave Rio a kiss when the god looked back at him.
"Older than...." How could Adi be less than five years old? That did not even make any sense! Leo looked very, very confused at that.

Leo was adorable when he was confused, and Rio's smile became truer. "I know she doesn't look it, but she's not quite five yet. She and her brother both grew very fast." He shrugged. "Something to do with Orin or me, I'm sure."
"We really should get you home." Love looked off again for a moment. "He must miss you."

"Ah..." Probably one of those things it was easier to accept and move along rather than try and figure it out.
"Maybe..." Leo was not sure, considering he had never been away for more than a few days before. "...he does not know about me, though. I'm just another housemate." He probably should tell the boy at some point but...how do you explain something like that?

"He doesn't? Is he not supposed to know?" Rio tilted his head just slightly, curious. Was there some kind of rule about that sort of thing?

"Alexandrie left that choice to me, to tell him or not. I am just not sure how to explain it...I do not even know who the boy's mother is. Only that she was one of my first patrons..." It was sort of embarrassing to admit, but he had been sixteen and handsome so the list was not exactly short. "The woman's maid brought him to Eglantine house a couple of years ago and all but shoved him into my arms. I don't even know why." He always figured the woman made the choice between a lover and her son, or something similar.

Rio was quiet for a moment, puzzling over the situation. It seemed so odd that the woman hadn't sent the boy away sooner if she hadn't wanted him, but that was neither here nor there, really. "I'll admit, it's not something I've had to explain, at least within memory."
While he might not remember specifically, it was only logical to assume that he'd had, well...a lot of children. "But it's probably better to tell him sooner rather than later, while he's still young."

"I know the situation does not make sense, but it is what it is." Leo shrugged. D'Angelines did strange things for love.
"I do want to tell him, I really do. In a way he is lucky, a lot of children in the Night Court do not get to know their parents very well. I haven't seen my parents since I was just a bit older than he is." It did not really bother him anymore, as it had when he was young. He had grown up well, made a life and a name for himself. They would be proud of him, where ever they were now.

Not everyone was cut out for raising children, Rio understood that, even if he couldn't imagine not being with his. But when he had just been Alex, he would have been a terrible parent, he knew that. The capability for responsiblity simply hadn't been there.
"Has he ever asked about his parents, do you know?"

"When he first got there he used to cry and ask for his mother. That did not last very long though, I think the other children might have managed to explain or at least kept him distracted. I helped when I could though. He always runs to me when the other fosterlings or the apprentices give him a hard time." How or why Émile had picked him out of all the adults in the house he did not know, but still he was grateful. It gave him time that he might not have had with the boy otherwise.

"Maybe he has some sense of it?" Rio 'hmm'ed, cupping his chin in his hand, and tapped his fingers against his cheek. "Well, whatever it is, we should get you back to him."

"Maybe, children are clever after all." He smiled a bit. "When we do go. I would still like you to stay a while and see what there is to see."

"Of course." The god smiled back, hiding any anxiety about what might happen when it was time for him to return to Pantheon. He covered such thought with a chuckle. "It's a good thing I've had practice being away from Adi now."

"Probably. At least she knows you will be in good hands while you are gone." The little smile turned into an impish grin and he leaned in to kiss Rio again.
