TKO Round 1

Her eyes shining with determination, Calliope launched yet another signal beam at the offending Onix. It had dared to have the audacity to invade her territory and to pick a fight with one of her smaller kin. She would not allow that to happen again.

In response to her beam of light, the Onix tried to launch an attack of its own, but merely hurt itself trying. It’s confused, should be easy from here on out. The ease of the approaching victory saddened her; she rarely had a fair fight. She mostly just found herself mopping of Pokémon that tried to bully her nearest and dearest. She would prefer an even match, but she still couldn’t let these weaklings go unpunished. Perhaps it was her unnatural size, but even Pokémon that she should have been weak against quickly fell to her attacks.

<<You got it now, Calli!>> exclaimed one of the numerous Joltiks in her cheering section. <<It’s confused!>>

<<Yeah Calli!>> another one added.

<<Calli! Calli! Calli>> the rest chimed in.

If she wasn’t already used to it, there would be a good chance for embarrassment to set in. As it was, she mostly didn’t react to it. She was merely doing her duty, making sure her fellow Joltiks were safe. Not one to prolong such confrontations needlessly, she decided to end the fight with her next move. Lunging in close, she slashed across the Onix’s brow with the tip of her front, right leg. Instantly the giant rock Pokémon was down for the count. It would recover, but it would certainly know not to mess with a Joltik again. Few Pokémon dared to face Calli’s vengeance more than once.

As the dust from the fallen Onix cleared, Zap, a normal sized Joltik, sprung onto her back. <<Wow Calli! I couldn’t have done it better myself!>> Zap of course had done nothing in the battle, but he was a bit full of himself and thought that he was on par, skill wise, with Calli. Still, he occasionally was useful as a distraction. The large Joltik wouldn’t let him get into any real danger though.

Scanning her surroundings, Calli found the Joltik that had brought her into this, the one that the Onix had attacked. Scurrying over, she approached the little one. <<Are you alright?>>

Nodding slightly, the little Joltik, who was named Sparkle, replied, <<I think so, just a little sore.>>

Lowering herself to the ground, Calli motioned for Sparkle to climb on. Once the little Joltik had pulled herself up next to Zap, Calli rose and began to make her way back to their home, a section of the cave that was Joltik territory. Close behind her swarmed a large group of her fellow Joltik, all waiting to see what she might do next.

As they all crossed into their den, Calli turned and unleashed some electrowebbing at the entrance. She didn’t fear any Pokémon, but still, safety precautions like that could help keep her kin safe. She has had enough unexpected visitors to last a lifetime. Several of the other Joltiks couldn’t help but ‘oooh’ and ‘ahhh’ at her web flinging skills.

Content that, at least for now, all was well, Calli lowered herself to the ground and relaxed. Her work was never done; she needed her rest.

Into the Deep, Deep Darkness

<<Calli! Come quick!>>

At the call for her, Calliope’s eyes instantly sprung open and she hopped up. Looking towards the source, she saw Zap a short distance away, excitedly hopping up and down. Hurrying over, she asked, <<Is everything alright?>>

Nodding, he replied, <<Yeah, but I found something, it was all glowy!>>

Zap and his treasures, she thought, slightly shaking her head. He had a love of things that sparkled that she just couldn’t understand. Still, it couldn’t hurt to check it out. For all she knew, the one time she didn’t check up on one of his discoveries would be the time when it would be trouble. Also, she couldn’t just sit around doing nothing; she needed to get out and do something.

<<Ok, where are we going?>> she asked.

<<It’s way deep inside, you’ll see.>> came his response as he scurried ahead.

He must be excited about whatever it is; normally he tries to ride on my back. She easily kept pace with him and soon saw that he was leading her deep into the caves. She rarely ventured here in her security sweeps, there just wasn’t much to see and it just went deeper and deeper. <<You sure it’s down here? There isn’t ever anything down here?>>

<<But it’s in a new tunnel!>>

<<A new tunnel?>> That was something she would have to investigate, but how did it just appear? She was beginning to be glad that she followed him down here. He might have not realized how important the appearance of a new tunnel was, but she certainly did.

<<Yep, it is just a little deeper.>>

Heading down the path, she hoped that whatever formed the tunnel didn’t dig too deep. Who knows what could lie deep down below?

Continuing on, they reached the tunnel, after what had to be a good hour of walking. Calli couldn’t help but be surprised that Zap had traveled so far on his own. He tended to stay near their den or at her side. He must have really wanted some treasure today. Regardless of his reasons, they were now there. Peering into the new tunnel, she saw no end in sight, only that it continued on a ways and that, very far down the path, there was a glow. Without knowing its size, it was impossible to tell how far it was. She assumed that this is where Zap had stopped.

<<See it, it’s way in there, somewhere>> His uncertainty only confirmed what shehad expected. This was as far as he had made it. Not that she blamed him. It was smarter for him to come get her. If there had been danger, no one would have known where he had gone.

<<Wait here, I will go see what it is.>> Callie stated, not wanted to endanger her assistant.

<<Will do!>> he confirmed. If Joltiks had fingers, he would have been crossing them right then. He had to see what it was for himself…. even if Calli went first.

Brave and determined, Calli made her way into the passageway, her eyes constantly scanning for movement. If something was there, she wanted to see it first.

A short distance behind her, doing his best to remain unnoticed, Zap followed.

Surprisingly, the tunnel wasn’t actually all that long. The way to its entrance was much longer. Also, the path was strangely straight, without any side routes, corners, or turns. Whatever had caused the glow was fast approaching.

<<It’s a star?>> she pondered aloud. That made no sense! She wondered how a star could be so far down. Closing in on it, she suddenly felt very tired, which was most strange. She had plenty of rest earlier! How could this be happening? she thought mid yawn. Closing her eyes, her body collapsed against her wishes. The last thing she heard was Zap calling out her name.
