This time it was Shadow's turn to stagger in mid-air for a moment from the powered-up, super-effective attack. But she recovered quickly, to all outward appearances no worse for the wear.
"Shadow, use Ancientpower one more time, on the torchic! 'Donna, use Haze!"
While the ground exploded yet again, Dreydonna summoned a thick, purplish-black mist that wiped away the pain of her burn and temporarily enveloped the entire battle.

Hestia stumbled over after another Ancient Power attack. No, she couldn't fall here! Her strength was slowly falling from her though. Some of her brightly colored feathers had begun to fall, likewise. The thick, icy mist enveloped her too and she felt the power in her talons fade. That was a set back.
Their strategy melted away with Hestia's attack boost and Dreydonna's burns. All they could rely on now were their damage-dealing attacks with type advantages. There was no time for wimpy healing moves in his strategy. "Hex and Shadow Claw you two!"
Ares' eyes began to glow once more, this time he aimed at the Shadow Mew and flung a ghostly curse at her. Even though she wasn't burned, it would still do some damage. Likewise, without her attack boost, the little Torchic slashed at the Gengar with her talons cloaked in shadow.

The combination of attacks on Dreydonna sent her stumbling backwards; she actually stopped grinning for a moment, instead giving an equally unpleasant grimace. But she righted herself again and was already diving forward for revenge.
"Dreydonna, Drain Punch on the torchic! Shadow, Aqua Tail on the vulpix!" Zinnia quickly interjected.
Dreydonna swung her sharp-clawed fist at Hestia's beak, hoping to steal some energy back.
Shadow Mew's long tail glowed a brilliant blue, and she swung it around, the momentum causing her to turn 180 degrees through the air. Where her tail touched the ground, a wave of water mysteriously burst forth, crashing swiftly in Ares's direction.

Hestia quickly danced out of the way of the ghost's fist, but Ares wasn't so lucky. The vulpix had more energy than the torchic, but the supernatural wave of water was hard to avoid and he was sufficiently drenched.
His team's energy was wearing thin, but he would keep trying. He should probably make a grab for the girl soon, though that probably wouldn't be a smart idea unless he could knock out her pokemon. "Keep it up you two!" He ordered. Clyde wasn't the type for encouragement, and his pokemon knew it.
Ares shook the water out his fur and darted quickly at Dreydonna with glowing eyes. He bared his teeth, snarled, and threw ghostly energy at her once more. This was getting tiring, but he pressed on. Hestia did the same and whirled through the air to slash and rip at the Shadow Mew.

"Shadow, Aqua Tail on the torchic! Dreydonna, Drain Punch on the vulpix!" Zinnia ordered.
Shadow's tail whipped up another small tidal wave, now aiming to soak the other fire pokemon. Not far away, Dreydonna dove at the soggy vulpix, her fist ready to take some health.

Hestia winced as she tried to twirl out of the way of the on-coming Aqua Tail and landed awkwardly on on foot. She stumbled, and the wave overtook her; shortly after blackness followed and she lay in the mud, unable to battle.
Ares was struck by a ghostly fist that sapped at his energy, but he faired better than his partner. It was only him against the dark duo before him. He pitied the fallen warrior bird, master would not be pleased.
The vulpix also pitied himself for a moment: he could not win this battle.
Clyde made some unintelligible noise as he noticed Hestia was down, she needed some reliability beat in to her. "Ares, Hex on the Gengar!" Their odds were greatly decreased, but the boy's stubbornness wasn't. Ever. "Why are you running from Team Rocket, anyway?" He shouted at Zinnia over the battle, "No matter where you run, we will find you!"
Ares launched forward, eyes glowing once more, at the Gengar. Even knowing how futile this was, he lashed out with the ghostly curse.

"Shadow, Ancientpower! Dreydonna, Drain Punch!" Zinnia commanded. She chose to ignore Clyde's jibe; he was just trying to distract her! She would let her battling do the talking.
Shadow used her psychic powers to break up the ground beneath the vulpix's feet, causing jagged rocks to burst out every which way. She was careful not to hit the fallen torchic, however; it was terribly irresponsible of that trainer not to return his fainted pokemon.
Dreydonna lunged forward into the fray once again, grinning insanely, confident that this final punch would mean her victory.

The Vulpix flew through the air, catapulted by the flying rocks into the mud. The hill was a mess of broken earth, clods of grass, and mud. He scented fire burning somewhere near by as well, the remnants of a Heat Wave most likely. When he tried to get back on his paws, he was knocked back down by the Gengar's Drain Punch. He struggled to keep his eyes open, just a little longer and maybe he would've beat the Gengar, but even then, there was the Shadow Mew...He blacked out.
Clyde let out a curse. Although his pokemon had worn out the girl's a little bit, he knew he'd get his a** handed to him if he tried to take Zinnia and run. His stubbornness ended there. "You won't get away next time, little girl," He sneered. Finally, he returned his fainted pokemon. They were weak. He was not. The girl was weak for running, but it was his turn to run. He was not weak.
The Rocket finally returned his fallen pokemon. They were nothing more than tools to him, Ares one that held more sentiment, but still just tools. "You're just a weak little girl hiding behind some powerful pokemon," He spat, "I won't forget you. In a year or two, when I'm running Team Rocket, you'll be found. And then, your Shadow Mew will be mine."
He fled.

"Good riddance," Zinnia said, sticking out her tongue to the space where Clyde had stood. She sat back down on the ground, Zyk still perched on her shoulder. Her other pokemon returned to her side as well. "Shadow, 'Donna, you both did great," she said, smiling. "Thank you so much."
Dreydonna cackled, but Shadow was silent. Zyk seemed a little disappointed not to have helped more, but he took comfort in the fact that if Clyde had tried anything suspicious, he was right as his trainer's side to protect her. Maybe next time, he would be allowed to fight.
Zinnia leaned her head back, eyes closed, and enjoyed the coolness of the fast-approaching night. The ground lay in broken disarray, and there were patches of muddy water here and there, and somewhere some grass or a bush was burning, but to Zin, there was no more peaceful place on Earth. Soon enough, she would have to get up again and find shelter for the night, but for now, she would simply enjoy the moment with her reliable and much-loved pokemon.
