"I am not a crusader," he retaliated with a lowered his voice. He realized that he was getting much too worked up over this and crossing into the zone of folly. How had he just met this troll, and already she was infuriating him at absurd levels? He took a few calm steps toward the Fuzzball, determined not to lose his advancements but also trying to keep it cool. "I just seem to notice things that others choose to ignore. As for to my lusus..." He paused as he reached where she was, stopping to stand right in front of her, toes almost touching, to prove he was not afraid of her. "He has met one too many a brutal hand unlike mine, and is, unfortunately, no longer with us." This was partly true, but he would allow the Fuzzball to infer from it what she would.

So his lusus was dead? Hm, that might explain some of it then. Normally she'd feel a bit bad about making fun of a dead lusus, but this guy didn't deserve pity. He played the same game as her. You give up pity points when you try to aggravate those around you. Then again, he wasn't doing a very good job at it, she wasn't even breaking a sweat and he had already had an outburst. She stared him in the eye and said, "Well it's a harsh world. If you can't keep up then you get tossed aside. It's a fact of life. There's no time for wrigglersitting." Then she reached up and poked the bridge of his glasses. "Least of all by lopsided dorks like you."

Taquin resisted the urge to grab her hand and bend her wrist back painfully when she her nubs intruded on his face. It would not help his point if he were the one to start a physical fight in this argument. He glared down at her and wrinkled his nose in annoyance. "Unless you're a highblood," he scoffed, turning his head to the side. "It is not a fact of life, it's a fact of our culture, of the way we live." He turned back to face her, slightly raising his voice. "And I fail to see how it is the right way. But sure! Go ahead and believe in it. Believe in the queen's poisonous lies and propaganda. Next time you get culled for something that a troll with a slightly colder blood color than yours wouldn't even have to worry about, you will know who to thank. Now if you'll excuse me." Taquin left her to stand alone in the brown sand and walked off down the road he had come. There was no point in stretching out this dispute any further. She wasn't going to absorb a word he said, and he still had research to do before he left this blasted desert and never returned.

She blinked at him, genuinely surprised by what he said. He had a point. It was just the way their culture was and it was them who chose to live by it. She didn't need him to remind her of the privilege that highbloods held when it came to the chance of being culled. That certainly wasn't fair, but it was something she had accepted, just like the barkbeast eat barkbeast way of life. Before she could say anything, however, he was already storming off. She watched him walk off with a hand on her hip. He was an odd guy, but he had used up his entertainment potential. She'd let him go how to do whatever he had came here for. As for herself. . .
"Yo, Ratmom," she said as she looked down at her lusus. "Wanna help me out with my project?" Her lusus looked up at her and twitched her nose before hopping off in the direction of their hive. Smiling Minist followed behind. It was time for her to get back to what she was doing before running into that orangeblood.
