Ami cocked an eyebrow skeptically. "Have you been in the infirmary lately? They're sterile and smell like death," she said, nose wrinkling. "Besides, it reminds me of my mom." Quite frankly, they were at an impasse. Ami would never agree to it, and Marcus would never settle for it.
She threw a hand up and laughed. "How do you always manage to bring up all my scars, Marcus?" She ran a hand through her bangs and said, "We've got to find some happier subjects!"
It was hard though, when Ami was such a pessimist. Best to just focus on Marcus. "What about you? Wedding with Cass? Read any good books lately?" Ami just wanted to shut down the sleep topic and move on to another subject.

He scowled at her reply. "It has a bed. Several of them in fact. And it smells like chemicals here." He snorted, rather undignified. Then you sleep in the dorm room every other night, or at least the couch. Not in the labs. There is a thing called the sun Ami, you might remember it. Going outside is an option too you know."
Arms crossed she stood to lean on the desk. "Don't try to skirt the subject Ami. I am fine, the wedding is soon, and no. Back on topic, where do you plan to sleep that is not the labs?"

"I go outside plenty," Ami insisted. One thing she'd always prided herself on was the daily exercise she managed to get here at Deus. She'd never really taken to exercising in the gym, except when weapons were concerned. She liked doing natural things outdoors. So getting sun? Not a big deal.
It was just once she got in the cool of the labs that things started feeling ... comfortable.
"I'll sleep in my room, alright?" she finally relented, throwing her hands up without a shred of doubt in her voice. She honestly didn't know if she could fulfill the promise, but if it would get Marcus off her back, sure. Why the hell not. "But I mean it Marcus. Don't mother me."

He didn't buy it. She was an indoor person he bet. Never went outside. Lab rat of a different sort. Tapping his finger on his arm, he shrugged. This was about as good as he'd get in terms of her going to sleep in her bed. Or, her roomie's dorm in a bed that wasn't a bed bed sort of thing. Close enough.
"I'll stop when you stop giving me reasons to. That said. Off to the dorms with you. I'll lock up."

Ami gave him a completely serious, deadpan look. "I was just sleeping. I'm not tired yet." It was a surprisingly immature line for such a mature girl. Playing the "I'm not tired" card was something entirely childish for Ami.
"Besides, regardless of what you dictate, I still have duties," she said, gesturing up to a whiteboard clipped to one of the walls. Her name was written under one too many shifts, but it's not like she didn't know that or anything. "I can't sleep JUST yet."
A begrudging smile cracked across her face. "But I will." A sarcastic lilt toned her voice as she playfully said, "Cross my heart and hope to die."
