The path before you is covered in scorpions! Nearly every inch of the floor is crawling with the black arachnids, and there are even a considerable amount climbing up the hedge walls, some even nearly reaching the top. The sheer amount and collective movement creating an eerie clicking sound as they moved. How are you going to cross it?

Sound returned to the maze in a most unpleasant manner.

Ronan barely stopped himself before stepping on a scorpion, hurriedly backing up once he got a good look at the scene before him. The collective chattering from the mass of arachnids was almost worst than the silence of before, and the selkie quickly grabbed his nose. He wasn't sure if he was going to sneeze, but at this moment he didn't want to take a chance.

After it became clear that a sneeze wasn't coming he took away his hand and looked over to Iorek, his voice hushed. "I think you should be to float over this without issue. Might... you be able to carry me over with you?" He didn't like putting the raevan on the spot like this, but he couldn't think of anything that would work better.

Iorek was relieved that he could hear again, but this moment of bliss was gone in the blink of an eye when he caught sight of what awaited them. When the sound they made reached his ear he cringed and shuddered. This was horrible. He wished he could turn back around, flee the maze for good, but that was something heroes did not do. Heroes would face this fear. Even if it was poisonous, hissed, and had sharp claws.

Reks simply nodded to Ronan and quickly scooped him up. The less he thought of these little buggers the less they would frighten him. He carried the man bridal style across the path, drawing close to Ronan in order to avoid disturbing the scorpions.

When they reached the other side of the path and were far enough from the cluster of terror he set Ronan back down. "T-There we go..ha...that was...absolutely...horrifying."

Ronan gave nary a peep as Iorek carried him over, too distracted by the chittering arachnids to care about the awkward pose. Finally the two of them were clean of the dangerous mass and the selkie gratefully set his feet back on the ground. "A-agreed...." he said with a shaky smile in response to the raevan.

Turning around, he prepared to keep going.... and ran smack dab into a wall of greenery. Backing up he spat a few leaves out of his mouth.

".... better than more scorpions I guess."

"Uh...careful now.." Iorek winced as Ronan collided with the bush. Whoops. Well...he was right though. "Yeah, I rather have leaves than those things."

Reks sighed and looked back into the mist, afraid if they went back they wouldn't be as lucky when it came to getting away from those freaky critters.

"Looks like we either have to go back or find another way in...maybe hidden against the bushes?" He asked as he reached out and began to prod the leafy wall. "There must be another way..."

You're either going from bad to worse, from good to bad, or from moderately okay to bad with this one! You round a corner of the maze and lo and behold what is this? The floor of the maze from this end of the hall to the other is covered in...sand? What a strange thing, sand in a maze, but don't be fooled! This is quicksand and it's just as bad a thing as those Indiana Jones movies make it out to be, especially when the path you just came from closes off in a leafy rustling of growth. No going back now.

"Hmm...." Ronan was uncertain about a path opening up in the bushes, but he had already seen stranger things in this maze and he had no desire to head back towards the scorpions, so he began to prod the leafy wall along with the raevan.

The selkie had gone a few feet, hands running over the greenery, when his fingers snagged on a small gap. Pausing he pulled himself back over to the spot, but jumped back when the wall of greenery split open, the bushes falling away from each other as if they had been cut with an axe. It seemed the small pull was all that had been needed. "Over here Iorek," he called to the gargoyle.

Taking a few tentative steps forward he checked to see that Iorek was following, then turned back to the path to find... sand? Confusion soon turned to alarm as his foot in the sand began to sink, the bushes behind him knitting back together with a slithering of woody branches.

The quicksand was up to his ankle when he finally thought to grab the side of the maze, hands the barely reaching the leafy wall. Fingers knitting into the plant Ronan ignored the branches scraping his palm, and after some teeth gritting pulled his foot out of the sand, the action creating an ominous sucking noise. He hung there panting for a few moments, feet jammed unceremoniously into the bush. While the selkie enjoyed the feeling of sand between his toes, this was not what he had had in mind. At least his strap sandal had stayed on.

Briefly he considered quoting something involving frying pans and fires, but decided not to. Things could always get worse. He'd learned that the hard way.

"Seems like a lucky day to be able to levitate," Ronan said over to Iorek with a shaky smile.

Iorek drifted beside Ronan, dutiful and alert, as they moved deeper into the maze. He was becoming more and more worried as their journey continued to twist and turn. They had to make it out of here but what about making it out in one piece? Perhaps that was the real challenge of this place.

The raevan had moved away from Ronan for just a minute to try and pry a bushel of maze leaves back from the hedges. But not even his strong arms could make the assortment of greenery budge. Jeez...leaves weren't even his kryptonite!

He huffed in frustration and moved back to the selkie.

"Oh whoa! How did you get that to move?" Iorek asked with surprise as his wide eyes looked over fallen wall.

What the heck?! Wasn't he supposed to be the strongest of this pairing? Isn't that why he was dragging around these monster arms?

Maybe if he hadn't been debating on who was the strongest, Iorek could have caught Ronan just as he began to sink. It was only after the man had vanished from sight that Iorek realized something was wrong. He yelped in fright when he saw Ronan struggling against the sand tugging at his leg.

"Ronan!" The raevan cried as he dove to grab a hold of him. Although the man was out of the danger zone by the time he had gotten to him, Reks still pulled him close and far away from the murky pit.

Frightened green eyes looked over the wet sand that clung to Ronan's leg. He didn't look hurt but boy that certainly got his heart racing. He hadn't been paying full attention to what was going on and his partner was the one who had to suffer.

Reks winced at the realization and lowered his head in shame. "Yeah I certainly seem to be lucking out on these things. Are you okay though? I-I'm sorry I didn't catch that sooner. How is your leg? D-Do you want me to carry you the rest of the maze? It seems like the maze is after you."

If he had to carry Ronan on his back or in his arms to keep him safe he would. "If you say no, at least let me carry us across this quicksand. You've played the part of Indiana Jones long enough."

Ronan gave a not so subtle sigh of relief as he was picked up by the raevan, gratefully removing his hands from the bush. Was Iorek over protective? Perhaps. But when he was needed gargoyle was a life saver, and it didn't hurt that his heart was in the right place.... even if it did get a touch exasperating.

"It's alright, should have waited for you a little longer. And I'm fine, foot's just a bit sandy and while the bush was prickly, it's nothing to worry about." The selkie's lip twitched at the offer to be carried through the rest of the maze. "I am still able to walk, my foot didn't fall off back there," he said, an amused smile and a raised eyebrow coming to his face. ".... well, as long as the surroundings decide to be favorable. So... yes, I wouldn't mind being carried across the sand."

It seems that having a Raevan companion for this leg of the maze is a blessing! With Iorek's help, you both get across the hall of sink sand with nothing more than a sandy leg and a pricked hand as signs you were even here at all. Once Ronan is on his feet, the pathway before you opens up and you are now free to leave this place.

((Go ahead and roll.))

Iorek sighed with relief and set Ronan back on his feet as the pathway opened up. "Well here we are. Hopefully that was the end of all that sand." The raevan smiled at Ronan and peered ahead. "Although I have no clue what could be up ahead. If this maze wasn't so dangerous it'd be fit for an amusement park."

The raevan waited for Ronan to move along and as they started ahead once more, Reks stayed at his side. He was like a protective dog and sticking near his partner just in case there were any more dangerous obstacles they'd have to cross over or dodge or run from or...well...he had no idea anymore. Hopefully the mythical minotaur wasn't lying in wait anywhere. Although if Dr. Kyou managed to get one in this maze he wouldn't be surprised. At least the worst outcome of the maze so far was Ronan being in need of a nice shower when he got home.

Ronan exhaled as he got back on the ground, straightening his shirt sleeves. "Perhaps a raevan amusement park," he joked, "After all it hasn't been very kind to the poor saps with legs." Walking for a bit with the gargoyle at his side and the sand on his foot only chafing mildly, the selkie gave a sigh when they turned a corner and came upon another dead end.

"... I hope this doesn't become a theme." This was the second time they'd run into a dead end after danger... not exactly reassuring. Still a bit leery from the result from the last time a wall had opened up for him, Ronan decided to wait and let Iorek look for a bit instead.

Iorek chuckled and gently patted Ronan's shoulder, "I'm sorry. I suppose there are a few benefits to being without most of your body and able to float." As they came around the bend Iorek gave a terrible groan. His body looked to collapse as well from exhaustion and disappointment. Why was this turning out to be such a fight to get out? "Oh come on...."

He heaved another sigh, which seemed to have become a common move during this maze experience, and crept towards the next path that opened up. "Perhaps down here? I'll go first just in case. Can't have you falling into anymore quick sand."
