As the gold looked back at the pack, Larisk bugled, eager to impress her. He might not be the biggest or a bronze, but he was strong and brave and fast and deserved to catch her!

And be could be nimble, too. He was watching the gold intently, so he saw her leap the cart and stumble on it. Not being in the front of the pack had its advantages, as he saw the cart with plenty of time to swerve around it. He ran just to one side of it, then angled back towards the gold, losing no speed. He resisted the urge to check how the other whers had done. He didn't have time to be watching them, he had to watch the gold!

Talisk seemed to gain nothing from his attacking of the other Bronze, it certainly didn't seem like the Gold showed him any favor. He was frustrated but couldn't do anything as he had now moved a little way from the other Bronze, just in case the other had designs on attacking him. He wasn't so far that he could avoid a hit but hopefully he could, if he saw it coming.

Oh but then she looked around so Talisk raised his neck proudly, giving a short sharp bugle to her, to impress her. He didn't notice the wagon until she half jumped it, he tried to catch her up as she fought to free herself from the wreck but he tangled himself a little and didn't really gain any ground whatsoever. He did notice the net trailing from her tail, slowing her down though. Perhaps he would try and snag it soon and try to slow her down that way. Either way, she would be his, soon, he was sure.

GUH.

Beautiful warrior gold she may be, but beautiful warrior gold ran into something. The female managed to get past the supply bits, dragged a net with her, bronze and browns close at her tail. Siask almost did not realize he strayed too close to the broken supplies and splintered wood. Only quick reflexes meant that he escaped shredded claws and limbs, scraping up the undersides of his claws instead, just enough for the sharp stab of pain.

The gold ran, and he followed, narrowing in on the net and the female with it. Jaws snapped at a nearby male, meeting nothing but air, no intent to murder... just yet. The run did something with the already fired up bronze, the sort of flying adreneline rush one received after working out until fatigue. The rush. Yes.

Rhaesk' sleek form ran at the outskirts of the pack, his whirling eyes surveying his opponents. To him, they were really nothing of consequence. So far, none of them had shown any interest in him, which he preferred. It would allow him time to plan before the real competitiveness took over within all the males and he would be more concerned with defending his position.

Turning his attention forward, he eyed the pretty gold with an appraising eye, appreciating her ballsy attitude, going into heat right in the middle of a war. It spoke of her confidence, her cockiness even. Her strength. These were things he admired and as he chased her, the purple in his eyes took over, consuming the facets entirely.

When he spotted her stumble over the cart, he chortled to himself and was glad that it wasn't him. Dodging the cart all together by running alongside it, he eyed the net trailing from her tail with an appraising eye, though she was still some distance from the pack.

Katosk gave a snort of dismay as a cart was crushed, sending splinters everywhere. A few even managed to embed themselves into his tough hide, sending twinges of pain through him and spikes of concern from Kato. Katosk okay! he reassured as he leapt over the wreckage, trying his hardest not to be left behind. He was a good wher, Kato said so lots! He could do this!

Though it had been anything but intentional, the mishap with the cart went some of the way towards spreading out her pursuers. Rhaesk and Finulsk now trailed a little behind the others, while Larisk's quick thinking and nimble feet had now put him nearer to the lead with Vorsk. This development would have pleased her if she hadn't been distracted and annoyed by the net that was now 'chasing' her as well.

The gold bucked as she ran and lashed her tail until she was free of the net, leaving it behind to potentially snarl up the males.

Larisk barely noticed that he was drawing ahead of most of the other males. All he noticed was the he was getting closer to the gold. The bugled his excitement that his detour around the cart had gained him some ground and tried to run still faster. There was a net caught on her tail. Could he use that?

Apparently not. She manged to free herself from it after a bit of thrashing, and it dropped to the ground between her and the chasers. There was less space to react than there was with the cart, but Larisk was fast and clever! He would not let something like this keep him from the gold! This time he chose to jump right over the obstacle, since it would take less time than going around. He was already running fast enough for a running start, so he leaped over it easily, hit the ground running and didn't slow in the slightest. He would catch her!

He'd been expecting the net to come off at some point; at least it hadn't been some puppy-eager male pouncing at it to try and tangle the gold up. ("Tackling a female in a Run gets you dead," Siask remembered his handler saying. "Don't do it." He never did it) No, instead the fierce female freed herself, bucking and kicking like an unbroken runnerbeast. Siask would deny it (if he ever spoke and cared to remember), but he followed Larisk's lead with the jump.

The bronze hissed, snarling at the brown that dared get to close. Second wind followed by bloodlust, bristling and small twisted wings pulled down tight agaisnt his back. his legs worked hard, striving to catch up further with the revolution gold and further away from the brown. He'd catch her. She would see the wonderfulness of a shining hide, thank you, of a bloodthirsty and sharp-jawed male. A proper male.

Talisk grumbled, he wasn't pleased that he hadn't gained ground when others had. His claws dug deep into the ground beneath him as he ran, trying to get more purchase and run faster, When she shook her tail free of the net he managed to dodge it and get a little closer, her efforts slowing her down it seemed.

He bellowed a little, she would see, she would see that he was the best Wher there was and he would convince her that being a BadGold wasn't good and make her change sides, his mind ignoring the fact she'd be influenced by her Bonded, as he was by his own Talia.

He ran passed the net, and realized with annoyance that his stamina was flagging, leaving him to trail behind the others. Hissing at himself, he put on a burst of speed, hoping he could hold out just a little bit longer, pushing himself towards that shimmering gold prize. Unable to hold back, he bugled to her, a resonant sound filled with admiration.

Shining gold is fast runner! Make Rhaesk jealous in good way!

He ran around another wher, dodging any teeth or talons that might have come his way. Finulsk was determined to show those who were bronze that he was just as good! And pretty gold was pretty. Except she almost hurt herself! Finulsk warbled and skidded around an object in his way, attempting to get closer.

Gold alright? Strong. Gold strong.

Katosk was startled when the net came hurtling towards him, but not overly so--fierce!gold was smart like golds were, and he knew she would find a way to make it let go! He let loose an approving string of clicks as he skittered around it, keeping an eye out for the other males. Some of them looked almost as fierce as the smart!gold, yes, and he didn't want to get tripped up in a fight when he was in a Run! He dug in with his talons instead, and put on a burst of speed.

Too bad, they were all smart enough to avoid the net, she noted as she looked back again. Not that it was a bad thing to be smart, but since they were all smart, she couldn't like one of them better based on their smartness alone. And if that weren't bad enough, some of them were starting to cluster again! Siask and Katosk joined Larisk at the front, while Vorsk dropped back a little to join the main body of the run. And Rhaesk, well...he was bringing up the rear.

Make Rhaesk jealous? she snapped disapprovingly. Rhaesk run, not be jealous! Wasn't he even trying?

Finulsk was almost as bad. Strong. Stronger than you.

When they reached the beach, the sand and its give forced her to slow further, but that was far from their most pressing problem. A small encampment of Resistance fighters lay ahead, and took understandable exception to the rapidly-approaching Run. "Whers!" someone cried. "Get the whers!"

In the dark and separated from their handlers, it would be impossible for the humans to distinguish which whers were aligned with which side, and they didn't seem concerned. A wher was a wher, and a wher was bad! Someone threw a rock that thunked into the gold's head, and she roared. How dare they? Turning abruptly to the right - and faring much better in the sand than she had in the tunnel - she charged straight for the foolish woman, running right over her and leaving her broken and bloodied in her wake.

But alive. For now.

Larisk too was focused on the gold to immediately notice what was around them. He noticed the sand, but mainly because it made her slow. Bugling excitedly, he tried to maintain his pace so he could catch up with her. He would catch her!

Then a rock smacked into his leg, making him stumble and nearly crash face-first into the sand. He growled in pain and annoyance as he picked himself back up, continuing at a half-limping jog for a few steps. His leg ached, though it didn't seem to be bleeding again. Bad person hurt him! He turned his head to try and see who did it, but there were too many to tell. And he had more important things to be worrying about.

With a snort he turned back to the gold and picked up his pace again, forcing himself to ignore the pain in his leg. His bonded would fix it later. Time to chase now!

Siask's had very stern rules she drilled into his head when still a hatchling. They stayed, usually requiring an admonishment every so often in regards to a minor detail. Typical things (so she said) such as "don't kill babies", or "no force-catching females". One such rule had a lovely tone to it: if someone attacks you, attack back.

So when a good sized rock hit him sqaure in the eye and half his sight went black, bringing the scent of ichor to the wher, he screamed bloody murder and launched himself at his attacker. Pain sucked, it shot through him like a lance to the face and made stars dance, but it was workable. This could be done.

The bronze screamed in the way only a wher could, head lashing to get a somewhat look at the human. His claws flashed, saw the spill of bright pink entrails, and went back to his bloody Chase. Pain pain pain, and he ran with an unsteady gait belying his hindered eyesight, but he ran. Thick corded legs slammed down, claws ripping at the sands best he could after the gold, teeth bared in an animalistic smile.

Perhaps he'd lose an eye, but at least he would win.
