Ami shrugged, rolling her head back and forth. "Ehh. I'm not really good with him," she said. Insecurities forever. "I prefer the lab bench personally." She'd always like developing the technology rather than using it.

The eyebrows went down in a furrowed expression as Maddie called her chica. Not okay. The girl moved so quickly onto the next subject though, Ami didn't have time to call her out on it.

"You know your cell phone has a roster of people. Just text them asking to spar." Ami rolled her hands. "Or if you just walk down there, I'm sure someone will pick on you. You're a walking target after all, newbie." Was that a little sass in her voice?

No couldn't be.

"Oh?" She tilted her head at Ami, curiosity overwhelming her for a moment, pushing a few books into place. "Right, you're Life, aren't you?" Because she totally hadn't forgotten that. She glanced at the coat again and smiled. "I'm kind of jealous. I forgot how much I loved labs until I came here and was married to a training field instead."

Covering a laugh with a cough at the furrowed brow, Madeline danced around the room, collecting what she could salvage for Ami and making mental notes in her head.

"Oh, right. Is it common to text random people for spars?" Maybe she would try that if it didn't get her kill --

Woah. Sudden sass alert.

Madeline's grin turned shark-like. Now we're talkin'.

"Oh, is that so, oldbie?" She glanced at her with a wicked gleam in her eye, "I'll be sure to test that theory out and tell you how it goes."

Ami nodded, pointing to the coat she'd hung up. "Yeah ... I was in moon when I first came here. I transferred for ... personal reasons." Personal, meaning she sucked balls at protecting people, and hated all the touchy feelings and hugs that the moon boys seemed to dole out like free candy.

"Most people communicate that way. It's just faster," she moved towards one of the books and picked it up gingerly. "I don't care what you do though."

"Oh, really?" Madeline tilted her head back at Ami as she pushed books into places, small to large, thick to thin. "Moon is pretty much the defensive guy's, right?" She'd totally read about this. Somewhere. "Well, I can see the appeal in Life at least." She grinned and shrugged a shoulder.

"I guess." Madeline glanced at the books and raised a brow. "So what kind of literature do you like the most? To read, I mean." She smiled at Ami, changing tactics.

Maybe book lover to book lover conversation might work better with them.

Maybe.

"Yeah. There's a reason I switched," Ami said blandly, helping her stack the books.

Madeline asked her what her favorite books were, and Ami knew where this was headed. With many touchy-feely "get to know you" conversations under her belt, Ami wasn't about just walk into this one blindly most of the time.

But ... Madeline had brought up books and Ami would never be able to resist that.

"Austenian," she said promptly, "Though I like beat generation too." Ironically, she had her hand on a copy of Northenger Abbey. "And you?"

< Here we go. >

Shouldn't you be telling me how it's great to make friends and what not.

< So you consider her a friend? >

I didn't say that.

"Mmm." She glanced at Ami, twitching her fingers over the spine of one of the books. "Do a lot of trainees switch?" She inquired out of lazy curiosity.

"Ohh," It was like watching a lightbulb go off above Madeline's head at the mention of those books, and she grinned wildly, enjoying this turn of conversation. +1000 friendship points, Ami. +1000. "I love beat generation! I read a bit of everything though. Shakespeare, thrillers, mysteries." She touched the spine of one of the books gingerly. "Reading is one of my favorite things to do in my spare time, and I'm not very picky, I'll eat anything up."

( And I get to listen to every internal commentary too. ) Arsen snarked with mild irritability in her head.

Shh, I'm making friends.

( Or enemies. )

Madeline hummed and glanced at the books now strewn out about the room, gingerly placed to dry in the first part of the recovery process. "My last few years were spent mostly nose deep in med books though." She maaay have jumped the gun just a bit as a pre-med student with her reading materials. Just a little though.

"Mmm, I don't know," she said lazily, "It's not really a big deal if you switch. I think most people settle in the division they're sorted into though." Not Ami. Moon had never quite fit with her, ever. Messed up exercises, messed up missions. Life just worked better.

< Like Scary Potter! >

For the last time, stop insulting the genius work. It's HARRY Potter.

She looked at Maddie rather curiously. So the girl liked to read. Well that was +1 friendship point for Maddie. Just one. "Med books?"

"That makes sense, I suppose. I'm kind of fond of Sun though." Madeline mused, glancing down at her coat. Part of her wondered how they decided to divide the trainees up into divisions, but then again, it was probably none of her business.

"Med books!" Madeline repeated with a grin, bobbing her head at Ami. "Did you kn - "

( Don't start with the gross medical facts. )

"Um."

Madeline grinned and hooked her thumbs in her belt loops. "I was a pre-med student before I came here - I kind of jumped the gun on all the textbooks med schools want you to read though. Curiosity might have killed the cat ~ "

Pre-med? So the girl had a brain. + 1 more friendship point. Wow Maddie was at like a two and it hadn't been more than a half hour. Good for you Madeline, you go Glen Coco Madeline.

"Interesting," was all she remarked. Unfortunately, that would probably be a gateway for poor Madeline, who would mistake that that meant Ami actually was interested in medical terminology.

She gestured to the books and said, "Well let's carry these to the life labs then."

It, unfortunately for Ami, who may or may not now be candidate no. 1 for gross medical facts daily, was definitely a gateway that Madeline didn't just step through but leapt through instead.

"Sounds good," She chirped, collecting a pile of books with ginger care and waiting for Ami to lead the way.

And all the way to labs she mayyy have filled Ami on one or two fun facts about bones and how to break them all the way there.
