Aska's glance did not go unnoticed and she smiled at him in return.
A long blue eyebrow quirked as Xun explained just what the next adventure entailed. It was a familiar story, at least parts of it were. "The Vryce brothers." She had heard bits and pieces of it from their conversations when they had visited her last time. Things made a bit more sense now that Lifewater had filled in the holes "I had to put their father back together after he offended Trickery." Quite badly, if his wounds were anything to go by. The man would live at least.
"Well, hopefully everyone makes it back safely." Xun would know what the thoughtful expression on her face meant; Aska might as well, given they had lived together for long enough. She was already making a list of things that might be useful to send with them.

"I'll hope for that, too," said Aska, and Althai in his head said, I could help! Maybe. Aska would have sighed, but it would be rude to imply that he was psychically communicating with a god in his head while he was someone's guest. He ignored Healing, and observed his thumbs as if they were the most interesting thing in the room (they weren't) and like he didn't feel incredibly awkward (he did). He had… no idea who any of these people were, or where the other worlds were, and it was not the first time he'd realized exactly how out of his depth he was but it was one of the most depressing.
He took a deep breath and then, sighed in silence. Flicking a glance at Whist, he smiled a bit crookedly. "I'm sure they'll ask you for what they'll need, dear," he said. "I don't know them, but if they're about to march off to fight someone, they've probably got experience."

Oh, so Whisteria had ended up with the father, it seemed. "Is he well ? See, I got to handle Trickery after the fact..." He knew that Tien liked to keep her identity hidden, as Tricksters tended to be, so he left the name for the goddess to reveal. "She did quite a number on him, at least that was what I gathered from what she has told me."
He could understand, through. The man had hit a sore spot - he might have reacted the same way, if he had been in Tien's shoes.
"I am sure they would appreciate the help." One could never be too careful, after all. He surely would stock up with his sister-in-law if he was to leap off into the unknown as well.
The god and host conversation certainly would not have bothered Xun Jiang, as the concept was far from unknown to him. By the time they had merged, he and Illisia had gotten so good at communicating at each other that they had barely required words.
The Dragon King could not tell that this was what actually going on, of course, but he could tell that Aska looked a little uncomfortable again. Maybe... Oh, yes, that could work. "Have you two thought about names yet ?"

"If she had wanted him dead, he certainly would have been. But, yes, he was well the last I saw him anyway." That had been when the boys had taken him back to the pantheon. At least he could mostly walk back instead of being carried. Whisteria did not envy Xun on the fact that he got to handle an angry goddess, especially one that skilled with blades.
Whisteria would not have been bothered either, if she knew what was going on. Still, if Aska was feeling awkward again the change of subject was probably a good thing. She reached over and took his hand, squeezing it gently. "I have a little bit, but its not a subject we've actually talked about." She glanced at Aska, wondering if he had thought about it at all.

"Do you mean Tien," asked Aska, who had never met the sharper side of the goddess of Trickery's tongue in his single meeting with her. His impression--which drew snickers from Althai--was that she was fun-loving, but overall, not as big a threat as he might have anticipated. "I've met her, she seemed… pleasant to be around."
If Xun had been intending to make things less awkward for Aska, he did not succeed, Aska reflected ruefully. He wasn't even sure of the gender of the child, and he didn't want to consider names until he knew that for sure. "I haven't considered it," he admitted, which for all it rankled was true. "I've been… concerned with material matters." That, and he didn't particularly care if his child was male or female, as long as the baby grew up happy and well. He would do what he could to ensure that. But if he had to say a name then, well… he'd always thought it'd be nice to name a daughter after his mother. Elixabete had done a lot to shape Aska, even though she'd been there only rarely. It seemed… appropriate.
Pensive, rather than awkward, he said, "Perhaps we ought to consider it."

....Well, so much for that. "Yes, Tien." He nodded. Looked like Aska had prior experience there. "And you would be right, mostly... As long as she is not provoked. Jesran really did ask for it, as far as I could gather." Any god was dangerous when provoked. Some more than others, but the point still stood.
Of course, there were the matter of sudden attacks from playful wyrmlings, but that was another point altogether.
Xun Jiang simply nodded. He saw nothing wrong howsoever with the man's priorities at all - in a way, he could understand. Doing all he could in the time he had took precedence, most likely. "I have the strong feeling she's a girl." Always had, really. The female pronoun had been the first one he settled on, and Ti Lung only felt more or more solid in his guess as time went by.
At least now it was obvious how Whisteria had figured her pregnancy out.

Whisteria had no reason to doubt Xun's guess, he was a lifebound god after all and logically that meant his feeling would probably be right. If it had not been for that they would have had to wait until the child was born to figure it out. Her hands ran over her belly lazily, silver eyes closed for a moment and she took a deep breath speaking- her thoughts and emotions were getting stirred up again, so she was trying to relax them. "Yes we should."
The child would have Aska's family name no matter what, she had already decided that. It was simply a matter of the rest of it.

A daughter. Well... well that was something, wasn't it? A daughter. Aska almost smiled. He didn't doubt that Whisteria would be able to protect their little girl--far more than Aska ever would--but at the same time, he wanted to be there. Having a concrete gender made the idea of their child that much more immediate, that much less remote. She had already been pretty present in the forefront of his mind, but...
"My mother's name was Elixabete," he said, taking a deep breath after that admission. "Perhaps that could be part of her name." It was traditional for girls to have middle names, wasn't it? Back on Lampadas, at least in Heimdall, it was. He looked to Whisteria then; she was the one who would truly have to live with the name, the final decision ought to be hers, or so he thought. "If you don't object, Whisteria?"

Well, he had not expected them to decide right now, but... Well, this was as good a place as any, was it not ? If this was to be settled right there and then, the Dragon King did not mind. He remained silent, however - this certainly was not a conversation he had a place in.
So Ti Lung remained silent, busying himself with refiling empty tea cups in the meanwhile.

In her mind there was no reason for Aska to lessen his involvement just because he would not be there, if anything it made it more important. Her eyes opened again when Aska looked her way and she smiled, nodding. "That is a beautiful name." He had not spoken to her about his mother very much, and now she wished he had. The woman must have had quite an effect on Aska.
Women in her family were traditionally named after flowers- so what sounded nice with Elixabete...?
"Lily Elixabete Kapanen?"

Aska nodded. The name worked for him; his mother was acknowledged, and it followed that Whisteria would pick a flower name. (Whisteria.) He smiled at her, and then looked to Xun for a moment.
"What do you think," he asked; and then, realizing that had been an awkward time to work out a name, he continued, "I'm sorry. Don't know how much time I have to decide these things, so..."

Xun Jiang had not minded, really - through when Aska asked him what he thought, he very nearly skipped a beat. To be honest, the Dragon King did not see how he should be involved in such a thing - this was in between Whisteria and Aska, after all.
The talk of naming had made him wonder, if the child had been a boy... Would he have been named after Illithor ? The thought had made him pause for a moment, before he could shake the feeling away.
"Do not worry about it." He smilled. "That is a very lovely name. It flows together nicely." That Whisteria picked a flower name was no surprise - he knew very well about that particular family quirk.

Okay, perhaps that had been an odd time to figure it out.
Whisteria had a thought about why Xun paused, but chose not to mention it. instead she reached out to take Aska's hand again and kissed the back of it. It may not have been the best time to figure it out, but at least their baby girl had a name now.

Aska dipped his head in acknowledgement of the compliment; it wasn't meant for him, he thought, but on the off chance that not acknowledging it would be a bad idea, he did. "So," he said, looking about at the plants. "Where are all of these from? I don't think I've ever seen such a wide variety." Granted, he'd only been to Whisteria's shop once or twice--he might be more familiar with the plants if he had been. Hadn't Xun once been a night elf, too?

"Some of these are from Azeroth." Xun Jiang nodded. "Whisteria brought me some seeds, and they seemed to enjoy where they were planted." Indeed, the plants were in full bloom, loaded with mostly purple flowers, lending a fragrant aroma to the air. "That one is a snapdragon. It comes from this world, I believe." And was a precious gift from a lovely young lady. "The others... Well, you would probably have to ask Glyph." The dragon let out a chuckle. "He is better at identifying plants than I am..."
Obviously.
