Yes, the air was certainly lighter now, and he figured Ravenna felt somewhat how he had when he had finally found his own silence, in the In-Between.

He certainly did not mind having others watch him - and it was Ravenna's birthright to be able to do so, above all others - especially as most others would have seen little more than a light show on his part.

"That was no problem." Through, well... He figured the questions would come now.

For him, this was going to be the hard part.

She did not worry about whether this was a presumption; she knew that some of the other devotees of other Gods would say that any act of questioning was heresy, but somehow she didn't think that Gwyn ap Nudd would stand on that much ceremony.

"Where did you go," she said, finally. "My ancestor Izar wrote that it was as if you just... ceased to exist." But they'd never stopped honoring him in hopes that he would return. The powers of the guides had been proof enough for the line, but even Marzena--Ravenna's own mother--had begun to doubt. "But if you did, how are you back, my Lord?"

Indeed. There would be no easy way out of this. Well, there could be. He could certainly ignore those questions, overlook them. Refuse to answer them.

But that would be an insult to her faith, and to the faith of every guide that had come in between her and Izar.

"And that is exactly what happened." This was not an easy admittance - at the pantheon there was no need to talk about it, because each and every one of the gods knew exactly that - they had died.

But now he had to explain to Ravenna, in a way that she would hopefully understand, exactly how a god could die.

"I have died, and not the way you are familiar with. My power faded away and my mana... dispersed into All That Is. I existed in a way, but not consciously. No thought, no voice, but the barest sense that there was once someone that was... me." That sounded cryptic still. He frowned quietly to himself. Too late for that. "Many other gods have suffered a similar fate. They became forces without thought behind them. Winds without an hand to guide them. Music played out without the true muses behind it. And the cycle of life and death... continuing as it could without the guiding hands to make sure all happened as it should. It was only recently that I have recovered my own thought and voice..." And only more recently that he had recovered the power to truly be, but he saw no need to fill that perticular hole. Ravenna would be able to do so herself.

Click to show. She listened attentively, dark eyes focused just to the right of the God's face--it seemed sacrilegious somehow to look Him in the eye, even when He seemed so accepting of all of her quirks and oddities. The idea that a God could be stripped of His power and then become part of the nothingness like that... well, it explained why their powers persisted, even once He was gone. It was almost enough to make anyone despair, not just a chosen champion.

But He had returned. And He remembered how the Guides had served Him with faith and honor. Could she ask for anything more, in her heart? "And so people continued to die, but they couldn't leave the island, because you existed no longer," she said, quietly, looking down at her hands. "But you're back now, my Lord? For true?" The idea seemed too good to be true, but she dared to hope. In the presence of Gwyn ap Nudd himself, she felt like she could hope for anything at all.

"Or shall you be leaving again?" Knowing now that He was real, she didn't know that she could live through centuries without being in the presence of her God again.

"That is exactly what happened." Ravenna was a quick thinker - something he rather enjoyed. He learned toward mortals quick on their feet, mortals that could keep things going during his often long absences.

And he had to admit he enjoyed the occasional butting of heads, but the young guide of Avalon did not look near that point yet.

"I will come and go." As he always had. His work was never over, and never would be... until the end. "But I am back, yes. And myself, once more. There will be no more huge spans of absence like this."

This was the only thing he could truly promise to Ravenna.

Through, now...

"I noticed there were other statues. Can you remind me who these god were ? I could tell you if they have also returned or if they have not returned yet. Our memories... They suffer from the Fading. I remembered this when I heard your voice." Not like Izar's but... the similar power backing it.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Ravenna nodded. Of course the God would have more to do than just attend Avalon. If he didn't, well, there'd be no need for Guides at all. She could understand and appreciate that, she could appreciate it very well indeed--she didn't know what she'd be without her purpose and her duty. "Thank you, my Lord," she said gratefully.

At his question, she hooked auburn hair behind her ear. "They worship all sorts," she said. "Earth and Water and Balance, and Guidance, mostly. The woman who dropped the vase was going to the altar of Belen, God of Healing." She paused, passing a hand over her hair. "The Good King has wondered about the Earth Goddess," she admitted; for all Ravenna was sworn to one god alone, she was curious too. Bloodlines would out, and in the end she might have to concern herself with the deity who ruled Earth after all.

Avalon had always been a spiritual place, for all it was tied closest to Gwyn ap Nudd and the Underworld God. Ravenna didn't often think of it, but now that she was, she was struck by how silly it must seem to someone who had probably seen worlds much more advanced than this one.

Hmmm. Earth Goddess... Gaia ? Maybe. But he knew that there had been the two of Earth. as well, whose purposes had been slightly different. To support Gaia, perhaps ?

"There is Gaia, the mother of all. I know she exists, but I have never seen her." It did not surprise him - He knew that things in between Kishara and Nergal had been... tense, to put it kindly, and it made sense the goddess might avoid him out of principle.

It was annoying, but there was that. "Of Earth I have not heard anything of." He shook his head. "Water... I believe one of the two exists, but I have not met him. I have no heard of Balance, Guidance, of Healing, but I will keep an eye out."

This was important, he knew. Having the faith of even a few people would help a lot, he knew this now.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Ravenna flushed, looked down and away. "I'm not sure, my Lord, I haven't paid much attention to the gods of my father." I was more consumed with proving myself to you. Which she had, apparently, because here he was, and she still couldn't believe that it was she who had been the Guide upon his return. The air felt like air, for once, and not a cloud she had to physically part.

She paused then, and said, "That sundering, years ago..." Attempted sundering. Ravenna had found the power and the wherewithal to hold Avalon together despite the land's attempts to shake itself to pieces; if she hadn't, who knew where the shades might have gone? It'd been more than that, though, it'd been a desire to prove herself and to save her home, and it had been hard, so hard that the mage that helped her died, and...

"Do you think it will happen again, my Lord," she asked. "It almost broke us last time."

He heard the word 'sundering' and knew immediately what Ravenna meant. Gehenna. The question was an hard one. How could he assure beyond the shadow of a doubt that something like it will never happen again.

"There are natural cycles to the world." He moved to sit, simply floating in mid-air as if there had been anything there to support him - his form wavered to semi-transparency, much like the souls he guided, betraying that he was simply floating. "Periods of peace followed by periods of war and death. But you are right to believe that what you call the sundering was unnatural. There are those who would return the worlds to nothing for their own gain." Ankou really was not sure to explain, really. He knew so little about the Grigori, still. Too little, to his tastes. "It was not Destruction's will to attempt to end All, but their intervention that caused it. We have prevented it once, and I hope we will not have to prevent it again." The meaning, he hoped, was clear - the gods would doubtlessly band again as they once had to prevent the end, unless it was meant to be.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Cycles, yes; life, death, and rebirth was one of them, and Ravenna was intimately familiar with it. Her mother's side was death, her father's was life, and she imagined that knowing two so well would cover her lack of understanding of the process of rebirth. She watched the god before her attentively, absorbing what He had to say. "I know you will," she said simply. She had faith--all of her bloodline had faith. "If I can do anything to help you and yours, my lord, I hope you will ask me to do it."

There was little Ravenna could do beside believe. Believe in him, believe in the others as well, and spur belief from the others in Avalon. Continue doing what she had done without guidance for so long.

Not even they knew where the grigori were, or what they were up to.

"For now, the only thing we can focus on is to strengthen ourselves." It was as Harmodius had said - the way they could all truly aid best would be to become what they once were, and step in the roles that they once held. "And you and the people of Avalon will be invaluable in that. When mortals stopped to believe, we died. Likewise, it is belief that allow gods to grow strong again." That was a good answer, he thought. This way the people here would not feel useless.

Maybe he was getting better at this whole communication thing.

This place, through... The more time he spent here, the more comfortable he became. There was something clean, crisp, and... familiar in the air, in the scent of the trees. Familiarity he could feel deep down, but not quite remember. He had little free time back then, for he simply had rarely allowed himself pause, but...

This made him wonder.

"I saw the shrine I came in to, but... Was there a larger temple, once ? Do you know ?" He was curious, now.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. She nodded once, firmly. Something the Guides had always been good at was getting Avalon's residents to believe--for a long time, it had been all they really had! "I will tell them that the Gods are coming back," she said. "All of them." But she would follow Him best, she knew that, because for all she was champion and princess both she would always be more champion, more Guide. Even so, if every God were to be believed in, that would help, wouldn't it?

There were those who sometimes left the island; she'd be sure they carried the story to the outside world.

At Gwyn ap Nudd's question, her eyes narrowed. "No, my Lord, I don't think so. We would have recorded it. There's the shrine in the chapter house, but I don't think there was ever... more. This world has many gods, and they are loathe to hold one over the others." Not Ravenna, of course. "Why do you ask?"

Ah. That made sense, really. "I was wondering. My memory is not what it used to be, as I have said. I simply... felt like I must have spent a good amount of time here."

More time than he spend most of elsewhere beside the Underworld. It was obvious now that he would never truly remember everything - and Ankou did not mind, for the most part. He had to believe that if it was relevant, if it was important, something would come along and jog his memory, like Ravenna just had managed.

...Well. It was not so much a contest, in a sense - at least the Spirit Guide did not see it that way. There were gods for every concept that existed, and mortals would always lean toward one - or more - than others.

If something existed, then surely there would be individual to believe in it.

He moved slightly in mid air to be able to look at Ravenna better. "How do you think they would feel about it now ?" The god asked. His thoughts on the matter were... Well, rather obvious.

He needed temples, needed worship to stay as he was now. And here was the perfect place. Why not ? It... felt right.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Ravenna's breath caught in her throat, and she choked out, "My lord?" Had she truly heard that? He had been back for hours only and already he asked--he asked to build a temple. There! On Avalon! As if they were… important… She took three deep breaths, calming herself. The idea of the God she worshipped actually wanting to build a temple there was incredibly exciting!

"I'm sure that after what you just did, no one would reproach you a temple," she said, bowing. "You lifted a great burden from us, my Lord." And no one appreciated it more than she did, she knew. "I will bring this to my father, if you like."

It was probably best that Ravenna had not stated that out loud - he would have argued back that of course they were important, and the Avalon Guide might not have been able to understand the significance of it. Rare were the mortals who understood things the way she did, and were not scared by them. Of those precious fews he had made his own ageless, the valkyries - but now that he knew, now that he remembered... One would always be missing.

The one who would have been Valkyrie, but whose soul he had been too weak to catch. Izar.

Ravenna... could not be a replacement, would never be. It would be an affront to what the young woman was, to compare her to her ancestor. Ravenna was a bright, shining flame on her own right.

"I would appreciate if you could." Kings and queens... Courts... He left such things, such a dance, to his older brother for a reason. This kind of unbending order was almost oppressive to him, and he did not know how to thrive in it, too used to simply do what he wished when he wished, within reason. He was too carefree to do well in such an order, and it would show rather quickly.
