He had been expecting her to push him away, not blowing up at him. Taken abake by the yell, he didn't interrupt her, waiting for her to be done. The Wilson comment made him pause, and he waited for a few seconds for her to hopefully calm down. "...Feel better after yelling?"

"No. ******** you Marcus," she said dishonestly. She moved for the door again, a tear slipping down her cheek. She couldn't even turn the knob because she had to wipe her face off with her sleeve- the good arm, not the scratched up one.
Goddammit now she was crying. She waited for Junpei to make some comment and then realized she'd left him on the table.
She sighed, realizing she'd have to turn around to get him. No matter what she did, there'd be no escaping this little talk Marcus had cornered her into. Stupid, stupid. She walked right into this.
Ami calmly brushed a hand through her bangs, and faced Marcus with that dead look in her eyes again. "Whatever you're going to say, just say it," she said. Might as well get the feels over with. Let's see, was he going to say 'it's not your fault' or 'it'll be okay.' The cliches were already ringing in the air practically as far as Ami was concerned.

"You're being a selfish, idiotic ******** Ami, and lie to me again and I'll have you running on deathsweeper with Dakota" He growl at her, grabbing her scarred arm. "You letting some a*****e drag you down is one thing, but to the ******** point that you end up getting hurt? What happens if you're on a mission and get distracted? What happens if someone else gets hurt because of that? Or better yet some one gets killed?"
It was cold, and his voice was dead pan. "I come in to find you passed out over a desk, then i find you got hurt and didn't get it even marginally treated. You loved him? He didn't ******** deserve it. You're better than him, and you know what?" Keeping hold of her arm, the moon trainee opened the door and began to drag her towards the training fields.
"If you like Wilson, I don't know what is stopping you. But I do know you';re being a ******** idiot and we're going to work this out."

Ami winced as Marcus grabbed her arm, tearing the skin lightly. Maybe it wasn't so much the physical pain, but the logic he was putting into his word.
As a lifer, she'd never really concerned herself with other people during missions. That was a moon's job, and that's why she quit. The fact that someone else might get hurt because of her ... Ami might've been cold and distant at times, but she didn't wish injury on anyone.
Marcus tugged her towards the fields and she at least got out, "Marcus- Marcus stop you're hurting me." She'd argue the Adam thing to death. "So what do I do? Just pretend the entire thing never happened? When some ghost turns into him I just say 'Wow seven years of my life, no big deal!'"
When he hit the Wilson point, Ami hit some sort of landmine she'd been avoiding since confessing. She stopped in her tracks, not letting Marcus pull her anymore. "It's not going to 'work out'," she said, mocking his tone and pulling her sleeve up to wipe off her face in a pointless attempt to stop the tears from falling. She took a breath, trying to control her voice. She didn't want to sound like a sniveling brat, even when she was already crying like a little kid. "He said no."

"Good, that means you're not utterly emotionless." He snapped pulling her out the doors towards the now empty training field. "You want to know what you do Ami?" When she stopped he only grabbed her and threw her over his shoulder.
"You get rid of that resentment and regret and you ******** shove them what they ******** gave up." Her resistance was futile, (though he didn't enjoying being hit at), once they got on the field, he threw her down on the ground. "You got rejected? Big. ********. DEAL. You're not weak Ami, and if you won't tell me what you're feeling? Tell the damn dummy, and punch it's face like you should have punched that Adam guy."
Your therapy is terrible.
Your therapy involved spooning.
I stand by what I said. Would have been better.
"I care Ami, and because I care and don't want to see you hurt or worse, I'm going to wait until you can show me some sort of progress. Now, Wilson said no? Go punch him and tell him why he should have said yes."
He actually had nothing against Wilson, but Ami punching things might help. Maybe. He wasn't sure.

Ami's face contorted in surprise- an actual emotion? Well how 'bout that- as Marcus swung her over his shoulder. Ami kicked a wailed, but honestly? She was still a bit shell-shocked by the fact that Marcus hadn't up and walked away on her. Any sane person would have. Then again, people on Deus weren't exactly sane.
She finished what was left of her tears on the walk over and as she sat on the ground sniveling up the last of them. Marcus was ordering her to hit the dummy, but she wasn't going to hit the damn dummy. She thought about it. Really. It might've felt nice to sock the dummy around a few times. She couldn't. "I can't," she said, gently nicking the dummy on the shoulder as a consolation. "Even if Cass cheated on you, could you really punch her in the face?" It was a horrible analogy to put a soon-to-be-married man through, but it was the only way she could make it work so that Marcus would understand why she couldn't do it.
So instead she took his other option. The feels option. "Wilson would've never said yes," she said sadly, looking at the ground. A smile played on her lips though. "He's too in love with Em for that." Part of her wondered how she would've felt if he said yes. Would she really be happy? On the other hand, why would she confess if at least a small part of her wasn't expecting a yes? "I just thought ..."
What did she think? "I thought he made me feel things. Like that I was pretty. Or smart. He didn't give up two seconds into conversation. Never called me "b***h" or "a*****e" when he thought I wasn't looking. Always helped me on missions. Made funny jokes when it got awkward." She faced Marcus, decision made. "No, I don't think he should've said yes. I don't think I'd respect him if he said yes."
A short pause, and she added, "Besides, he would've had more to lose than gain. Em's adorable." She followed with a light chuckle, hand on her other hand's wrist. An awkward silence ensued, and she said, "I hate myself more than anything. I almost did to Em what Adam did to me. I can't wish that on anyone."

He sighed. Well, no punching, but she'd opened up thank god. Shrugging his armed crossed as she talked. It was a lot more than what he'd gotten in the labs, that was for sure. "I don't know. When my first girlfriend cheated on me I just.. didn't care. I didn't think she loved me to start with. Cass however... I don't know." He never wanted to find out either.
Still he didn't like the whole putting herself down thing."And so let me get this right. You're not pretty, smart, no one wants to talk to you, you're a b***h and an a*****e and it doesn't matter that you know it?" He chuckled.
"I think you and I see a different person who goes by the same name. I see someone who hides and shies away from the group for reasons I don't know. I think she's a smart, honest person who just has trouble opening up. She looks cute in a way that other girls don't, but then, I think a lot of girls on the island are cute, sadly Cass is the only beautiful one."
Going up and bopping her on the head he smiled. "I see a girl named Ami who when push comes to shove, stands up for what she believes is right, even if she is a bit stubborn. She's someone I worry about, because I'm afraid she's more hard on herself than anyone else on the island can be." Going to the dummy, his fist clenched and he sent it a right hook, the dummy wobbling for a few seconds.
"Hitting things helped me. Talking helped more. Now, do you feel better?"

Ami nodded. It was easy to say "get over it" when you hadn't experienced it. Somehow Ami thought Marcus would do more than just punch a few dummies if Cass ever did something like what she'd seen in the bedroom that night.
When Marcus started complimenting her, the stony expression melted away. A pink crossed her face- not from infatuation for Marcus, but simply embarrassment of being told something she didn't normally hear. Compliments- real ones- weren't easy to come by when you were telling everyone to shut the hell up.
Rather than responding with words, she awkwardly wrapped her arms around Marcus' waist (because hot damn there was no way she was reaching those shoulder at her height) and pulled him into the most awkward embrace on the face of this planet.
That was a hug Marcus.
You got your ******** hug.

A hug was also unexpected, as Ami seemed to be full of surprises that night. Smiling a bit, he ruffled her hair. "I'll take that as a yes. Now," giving her a hug, he smiled before pulling away.
"Let's head back to the dorms. A bed seems the thing to get you. Desks... are not helpful."
