He winched as she asked him. He was dreading that question from the moment he mentioned he wasn't suppose to hunt alone. Should he tell her the story? Or should he make something up. He wasn't really sure where to start. He sighed, he supposed it would take more effort trying to tell a lie than the truth. "Because someone made fun of me." That was all he needed to say. If she asked more on it, then he suppose he could give more detail, but he wouldn't be pleased about it.
His tail dragged upon the ground, he made no motion to lift it back up. It wasn't like it needed to be off the ground, there was nothing that would hurt it. All the rocks that were big enough were stuck into the ground, and probably alot bigger than they appeared and there was no bushes around that he could see for the moment. "What are you doing out here?" He asked. It sounded a little more rude than he had intended, but hey.... that's how it goes sometimes. Maybe she wouldn't pick up on it. He hoped.

Mihko frowned a little when Gunju said that someone had made fun of him. She knew that one all too well. "Others make fun of me all the time..." She trailed off, her bright blue eyes seeming to lose their sparkle for a moment, "I don't see any reason someone would make fun of you though, you're pretty nice." The rust-colored female added, offering him a little smile. Mihko didn't like to be sad, and she didn't like to see other creatures sad too. Now that she had spent a little bit of time around him, she had calmed down and was much less excitable. And she hadn't lied to him, she saw no reason for other creatures to make fun of him. The young lioness knew that others made fun of her because of her disposition and because she was usually excitable and goofy. Some just didn't like that at all.
"I've always lived out here..." She trailed off once again, thinking back to when she was just a tiny cub. "I was abandoned to be on my own and I never had any parents or friends to help me. You'd think I'd be a little tougher than I am, but I guess that's just not what kinda creature I am, yanno?" Mihko said. It was weird, she didn't usually tell other creatures about her life like this, having just met them, but he seemed sort of sad now, and she hoped that offering some of her own troubles might make him feel a little better about his own. At least it was nice to empathize. "I do okay though...I guess." She added and screwed up her face into a funny frown, half-shrugging as she spoke. The orange-furred lioness watched the tail of the other dragging along behind him for a second, then turned back to looking forward, awaiting a response.

It wasn't the fact that someone made fun of him, lots of lions did. It was the fact the person he loved made fun of him, and he wanted to prove her wrong, but he didn't know how to say that. He didn't want to admit that he loved her. Sometimes it hurt, but sometimes it didn't. He gave a half-assed shrug as he walked on. "Well, others do, and I'ma prove them wrong." He said puffing up his mane which made him look even fatter than he was. Pretty soon, he'd end up telling this lioness what he was trying to prove if they continued this conversation. It wasn't a road he wanted to walk down, at least not to her.
"You've been out here all along, and you've never heard of Tuait'tekem?" He found that hard to believe. It wasn't THAT far from here, and the smell of the pride still filled his nose. Maybe she just never went in the right direction. He knew that she'd have been accepted pretty easy if she was a cub, they never turned away cubs in need. Though, he really hadn't seen them turn anyone away, though he really hadn't seen many come to the lands either. He was probably missing something important. "Well, you're alive, so you did just fine."

Mihko giggled a little at Gunju's determination- though it wasn't in a bad way at all, "That's a good attitude to have! I bet you will prove them wrong!" She cheered, prancing along for a moment beside him, picking her paws high up off the ground in delight. The rust-colored female smiled from ear to ear and glanced over at him. She noticed the male puff up his mane, and pondered his great size for a moment and then looked away. She hadn't meant to stare at him, oops!
"You're right about those other things too." The lioness began, then thought for a moment about the first part again. "Well, I mean...I haven't been HERE the whole time. But I've never seen any prides or pridelands. I just live in the grasslands here and it's good enough. You're right, I'm alive!" Mihko felt weird again for getting all serious there, but she also felt like it was okay. The orange-furred female shrugged a little and then turned to look at him for a brief moment again, watching his facial expressions.

IF she really knew him, she'd probably have not said that. He was in all sorts of doubts, but that was him. He didn't want to be the laughing stock of any pride, but you couldn't help it sometimes. He snorted and didn't want to reply to her encouragement. He didn't want to bust her bubble, after all.
He was confused at her. First she said one thing, then she said another thing. Were all rogue lioness this confusing? He didn't know. Nor did he know where they were going. At least his feet had made marks in the soft dirt below, he could easily follow them back if need be. "I don't think we'll be running into water anytime soon." he said. He couldn't smell any in the air.

The rust-colored lioness heard him snort. It seemed now as if he was running out of patience or something. 'Maybe...' She thought, trailing off on herself, she flicked her tail. 'Maybe I said something that annoyed him...' Mihko thought to herself. It seemed likely that's what it had been. It was beginning to seem as though maybe he had just been entertaining the notion of finding water to avoid being rude. Well, she wasn't about to just ditch him there, that wasn't the way Mihko worked. Although she wasn't exactly sure how to go about parting ways with Gunju, he seemed so nonchalant, but he seemed kind of sad too, and Mihko didn't wanna risk hurting his feelings.
Bright blue eyes turned back to looking at the male for a moment as he spoke. "I think you might be right about that water." She smiled, swishing her tail behind her slow, as if thinking deeply. Mihko wasn't necessarily thinking deeply, but he was likely right about the water- though she had no idea, to be honest. It would probably just be better for her to go on and search on her own. Maybe wander back towards she'd last had some. She slowed to a stop and then gazed over at him, smiling, tail flicking away behind her.

It wasn't that she said something that annoyed him, he was just sure that if she knew who he was that she'd have said something different. Though, he didn't want to out right come out with it. He wasn't rude, at least he tried not to be. He just felt that her encouragements were empty, and didn't mean anything at all. Then again, he wasn't really giving her much of a chance, was he? He was so use to everyone in his pride laughing at him, that he was sure she'd do the same thing if given the chance.
"I don't smell any water, anyways" He said with a shrug, he wasn't good at hunting, and his nose lied to him many times. "Maybe if we continue on a bit longer we'll find something." Even a puddle would make him happy, then she could drink, and he could be on his way... Or maybe there would be some type of game there, and she'd see how he really was. He dreaded it. But if there was game where the water was, he'd try to hunt, as he had more important things to try to prove. He would catch something, he would... Even if he looked half retarded doing it. "There's bound to be another small oasis out here"

Mihko smiled a little at him, continuing on as he caught up. It made her feel a little better that he insisted on keeping up their search for water. "If you really insist, I think I smelled something just a moment ago..." the orange-furred female grinned and bounced a little as she stepped. A slight scent had crossed her nose on the light breeze, and it had encouraged her as well. Maybe it had been just a fleeting glimpse...No. There it was again. "Yeah!" She exclaimed, flicking her tail excitedly, "I smelled it again, I think it's this way..." Mihko trailed off, gesturing with a nod in the direction she believed the scent to be coming from.
The young lioness turned in the direction she had gestured and without really noticing, she had sped up her pace. It was really exciting to Mihko that they had managed to sniff out water, and it was in the other direction from where Gunju had said his pride was. Hopefully he didn't mind going just a bit further away. The rust-colored lioness had thought she'd smelled something else on the breeze, maybe antelope, but Mihko wasn't gonna get her hopes up for prey, as she couldn't even hunt, and if Gunju was to hunt, it would be for his pride. The tiny bit she had learned about prides was enough to know that.

She had a better nose than Gunju had, that was for sure. He flicked his tail a bit, watching her to see what she was going to do. She seemed to have smelled it again. Well, it was official, his nose was not meant to find things. Maybe he was in the wrong job in the pride, if he can't smell things very well, then he couldn't be a hunter. He really should try to find a different job. He'd have to look into that later.
As she started moving, he decided it was best to follow. His marks in the sand would be easy for him to follow back. Sometimes it was a good thing he was a little fatter than most lions. He kept up with her pretty well, though he was wheezing here and there as they went. He wasn't use to moving so much, but hey it was good for you right? He kept up the best he could when she sped up too. He was sure going to need a drink after this one. How was he suppose to catch something if he couldn't even keep up with this lioness as well as he should be able to?

The orange-furred female now had the scent solid, and she knew they were getting really close. She slowed her pace a little as they came up on a little dune, and just over the other side of it was the water that they had been chasing. She grinned and then without thinking, almost as if she'd forgotten he were there, she pranced about in circles next to Gunju, her long tail circling behind her. Mihko jumped up and down with happiness, and was about to rush off to the water, when she remembered that she was still with Gunju. It also seemed she had left him just a slight bit behind. She felt bad for a moment, but there wasn't really much reason, as he was still with her, and she knew that he would be excited for the water also.
"Aren't you so excited?!" She exclaimed happily, her bright blue eyes settling on the large male, she wiggled in place waiting for some sort of confirmation from him before she would race off to splash and drink and cool her body down. As she turned for a second to look back at the little water hole, she spotted the thing she thought she had smelled earlier on their approach. Antelope. She had been right. Now Mihko lost the excitement from her eyes, and she continued staring ahead. The young lioness lowered her body and there was no more giggling. She may not know to hunt, but she knew that her best chance would be to keep low and quiet. "Look!" She whispered back to Gunju, gesturing with her muzzle to the antelope on the other side of the water.

He didn't notice a thing, he was trying to catch is breath. He almost felt like he'd never be able to breath normal again. He almost felt like coughing, but he managed to control it. Soon, he was just slightly gasping for air. Damn, she could move, he almost thought he'd fall behind and never see her again. He flopped down on the dune before noticing the water below. "I'll..... be there in a moment...." he gasped. He didn't want to keep her from getting some water.
He felt like he was getting old or something. And before he could totally catch his breath, she pointed out an antelope. Excellent, not only did he look like a fool from not being able to run, he was now going to look even more stupid cause he wouldn't be able to catch that... Especially out of breath... He grumbled to himself before looking back at her with a nod. He sat up, still breathing slightly heavy. At least they were in a good breeze that was towards them and not it. It hadn't noticed they were there.

Mihko stared back at Gunju as he tried to rest. She hadn't realized that he had been having a hard time keeping up. This time she felt bad for more than just a moment. "I'm sorry for going so fast, I didn't mean to leave you behind." She whispered, flicking her tail excitedly. The rust-colored lioness was certainly not about to rush down there on attack, she didn't mind waiting for Gunju at all. Honestly, at this point now, she would rather let him have the kill for his pride and go on in hunger than prove that she likely couldn't hunt to save her life. "I'll wait, it's okay...I don't mind, and I think we have the upper hand on our position up here."
Mihko needed some sort of excuse to postpone this anyways...waiting for him to catch his breath and cool down was perfect. "I'll just keep an eye on it, okay?" She grinned, turning back to stare down the antelope. It was still entirely clueless to their presence in the area.

He waved his paw at her, as if to say she was being silly. "I... Can handle it." He said now that his breathing was relatively back to normal. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest from so much movement. He wasn't ready for another bit of run, but.... he couldn't really wait. If they waited to long, the antelope would notice they were up there, and then they'd both be out of luck. He flicked his tail a bit. "I... I'm ready." He said. Unsure of what to expect. He was going to let her lead, females were natural hunters after all.
The dread of the moment was starting to creep up on him.... He didn't want this to come, but it looked like there was no choice. "Just... When you're ready." He said not trying to say to start. He... was scared. He knew that in a moment she'd realize how useless he was and make fun of him just like everyone else. He'd goof up and they'd loose their meal.. Her meal, anyways. He'd be happy to bring back just a bit of it. Though he was sure they'd just say he stole it from someone else... Why didn't he bring someone with him? God he was stupid when he got angry.

The orange-furred female tilted her head at him curiously, her tail flicking. It seemed as though he was hesitating, she was slightly confused. This was obviously going to go nowhere with neither of them ready to go, but in the heat of this moment, Mihko wasn't willing to let on she didn't get this. The females of their species were supposed to be the ones that hunted anyways, and she didn't want to let her new acquaintance down. "Okay..." Mihko trailed off, taking a deep breath. She crouched lower and kneaded the ground, powerful shoulders shifting side to side as she readied herself. In theory, the young lioness knew what she was doing. It was just that generally in practice, poor little Mihko just seemed to always fall short.
"Okay..." She began again, thinking hard, sweat dripping down her brow. It was getting intense and the young lioness had to try hard to keep her focus. She turned back to Gunju, bright blue eyes meeting his own. "Why don't you sneak around in front of it, down the hill a bit. Really quick. Once you're in position I'll tear right at it, okay? I can run fast..." She trailed off and looked away from him, mumbling, "I hope..." Her intense blue gaze shifted back to the antelope- thankfully still unawares.

He didn't know if he could do that, but he nodded anyways. Moment of truth was at hand, he'd end up scaring it. It'd see him for sure, the grass wasn't that tall, and he wasn't exactly skinny... Maybe it wouldn't notice his fat body coming towards it... With any luck, that would happen. He paused a moment before slinking slowly down the hill.
So far so good, it was busy eating some grass, and didn't seem to worry too much. Where were the rest of them? Didn't they stay in packs? He hadn't seen one by itself before. Maybe it was lost... or it could just be his lucky day. He tried to make as little noise as possible, and tried to get close, but not too close. He almost was moving like a sloth, he thought he had made it far, but he really hadn't. If he looked back, she'd be only a few inches away from him... He decided that he should probably move a little faster, but not too much faster. He didn't want to draw any attention.
Be grass, move like grass... You are one with the grass... he kept thinking.
