He removed the hat to turn it in his hands, running his fingers over the silk, straightening the band, "What do you have to be sorry about?" He answered quietly.

"If I never invited you along on that mission...," you wouldn't be having nightmares, your relationship with Rep wouldn't be ruined, you wouldn't have been shot in the face, Sasha wouldn't be acting crazy... There was just so much to choose from so she decided to just leave it vague instead of addressing all of it. He surely understood to some degree, right?

He smiled weakly, popping the hat back onto his head, "You didn't know. It's not your fault. I would have hoped a mission together would help us bond. Obviously not." He cleared his throat, looking the card over again before tucking it into the hat band like a mad hatter's sizing card. "It wasn't your fault for trying to be optimistic."

Jerry chuckled softly, fidgeting with the wrapping paper on his lap, "I should probably... go tend to my duties. But um. Thank you. For your concern and um. It wasn't your fault. I'm... I'm glad I was there." So at least he knew what was going on with Jordan's so-called relationship.

Rin smiled, at least he seemed to hold no ill will against her for this. She bobbed her head in silent agreement, "See you around Jerry and um... just... don't forget to keep dreaming, okay? It's one of those things that keeps us human."

He laughed weakly again as he wobbled to his feet, heading towards the door with the hat still on his head, "Yeah... and pray they don't turn into nightmares."

They fought them when they weren't creating them, anyway.
He smiled all the same, tipping his new hat as he ducked through the door, "Thanks. I'll be sure to put the hat to good use somehow!" He managed to force the cheerfulness back into his voice. "I'll see you later. We'll train or something, okay?"

Whew, he liked it. I think. It's hard to tell when someone is just being nice.
