He was right. He wasn't perfect. And hearing the apology - and apology for not being perfect - just left Robert feeling remarkably stupid. For someone like him, the human failure, to expect perfection out of anyone..
All the anger drained out of Robert in a rush, and he slumped as he felt it leave him once and for all.
"Shut up and come here." Robert grumbled angrily, taking the step needed to stand in front of Jordan and collect the smaller man in his arms. Robert picked him up and squeezed him like a bear, holding Jordan uncomfortably tight as he tried to squeeze all of the sadness and self-destruction out of their friendship.
"I'm intolerable." He murmured into Jordan weakly. "I don't know why you waste your time with me."

Jordan started to look up, half-expecting a punch, one he maybe deserved, but instead Robert was catching him up in a painfully tight hug. Jordan took a breath that was almost a sob and returned the hug, grateful for the unexpected forgiveness.
"'Cause you waste yours on me," he answered. Dangerously close to mushy, soppy, embarrassingly unmanly territory, but to hell with that. Anyone who said anything about it could go ******** off.

"SHUT the ******** up, a*****e," Robert barked out in cracked laughter, reaching up and punching Jordan right on the side of the head without letting him go. "I don't waste s**t. You're one of the best things that ever happened to me. ******** had to add the ******** at the end because this was getting into territory Robert did not want to remember, and he reassured himself he was manly by adding curses to the end of his emotional outbursts. He finally let go, and sat Jordan back down in his seat forcefully, before peeling himself away and taking his own seat. He wiped his eyes with his shirt, exposing dem abs awyeahh and shook his head for clarity. Then he pushed one of his half-eaten doughnuts over to Jordan, and waggled his finger at him. "But you mother ******** still gotta stay the ******** out of my Clarice's office. For real." The last word was punctuated by a fist smacking against the table - ah, no, a fist smacking into a doughnut. He immediately pulled it back up and stared at his messy fist. "Aw, maaan.."

Jordan thumped Robert's back, laughing weakly. The sick tension had gone, somehow, and things were okay again, and he wasn't quite sure how it had happened; but he wasn't going to complain about it. That Robert still considered him a friend, still accepted him, even flawed ... it was a relief, a gift just handed to him.
He flopped into his seat when Robert decided that he really ought to sit back down and accepted the donut as the peace offering it was. "Yeah, never again," he agreed ruefully. "That was just all kinds of dumb."
He handed over his napkin without further comment on the squashed mess of donut.

Robert took the napkin, slowly cleaned up his hand, and looked at Jordan very seriously. He regarded his best friend with a mixture of trepidation, pride, and relief.
Then he smashed the napkin into Jordan's face. Only then, did that giant puppy dog grin rise up across Robert's face. Only then, was everything right again.

Donut to the face.
Jordan slowly lifted his hand and wiped squished pastry away from his eyes. He stared narrowly at Robert. Then he picked up the besyruped toaster waffle from his own plate and got up, stalking pointedly around the table as a manic grin spread over his face. Oh, it was on now.

Robert stood up again, the chair squealing a second time, and stood with both fists clenched, eyes wide, and nostrils flared. His look said in no uncertain tones, I dare you. But there wasn't an ounce of real anger in him, and all in all, he looked comical staring down at Jordan in his challenge.

Jordan reached up, pulled the collar of Robert's T-shirt away from his neck, and went to drop the waffle in, the manic grin staying in place the whole time.

Robert roared when he felt the waffle fall into his shirt, and he picked up Jordan in his arms, heaving him over his shoulder. He smacked his best friend right on the a**, and disregarded the fact that picking Jordan up only managed to smush the waffle against his body even further. "OKAY BOSS. YOU ASKED FOR IT. DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU."
He didn't warn him.
Robert carried his best friend off to the communal showers, to soak him fully clothed to the bone.
