He shrugged. Even those that were not talkative had their moments. He was a testament to that, as was the small plant in front of him. He certainly would not press her to talk though. That she appreciated the thought was nice enough, and the offer did stand. If he could listen to dry theories about nuances of trance he had no hope of understanding when Astridr would go off on one of her spiels he could listen to a friend that needed to be heard.

He watched her plant, a bit farther away from Astridr and Cai. He was fine with that, there would be more nutrients for them. He carefully took hold of another plant, holding it as he scooped out another hole. Not making it perfect, but a good approximation. He planted it, scooping the dirt, lightly patting it down. He was not quite so gentle as with Astridr, and might have pushed it down a bit more than loosely, but he was trying to do it right.

They continued their silent work, moving down the row apart from each other until the plants were gone and he straightened, his back sending out pangs of pain but also relief at no longer being hunched down, his thighs and calves reminding him that he had been squatting for longer than he was necessarily used to, though nothing serious. "Water them now or wait until tonight?" His eyes might have strayed to Astridr. She looked so fragile, surely an extra meal would not hurt her...

"I see," he murmured mainly to himself, looking down at the rows. Well, if there was nothing else to do here than he had other duties that he could be performing. He straightened, dusting his hands off on his pants, not minding the dirty streaks he left.

"I'll go do other duties now," his eyes returned to focus on Lifen's dual-colored ones. "I shall return in the evening." And he would, or perhaps a bit before it was truly evening. He wanted to make sure that nothing weird would happen to the plants now that they were in a different patch of ground. It was just scientific curiosity really, ignoring the fact that he was not a scientific sort. With that he left, determined to go see what else his clan required of him.
