A crack just outside the gates of the home sounded as the tall dark haired form of Austin Brighton appeared. He sighed, knowing he was late. He began his way through the gated and up the path to his grandparents home. He opened the door to see the twins following his grandmother into the other room, he followed and smiled at them. "Hello. Grandma, Jinhai will be a little while longer, he is just finishing a few things up." he said as he sat in an armchair. Hmm, they are quiet. he thought looking at his distant cousins.

Alexander stepped into the ballroom, looking at the lavish decorations and all of the work the family had put into it. He smiled as the clock on the wall. One hour until the ball would open. Everything was in place, the arrangement of glasses set up. When the clock struck 4 in the afternoon and the ball was to begin the glasses and and goblets would fill with Firewhiskey, Finely Aged Mead, and Butterbeer. He smiled as he saw his wife looking over the final details for the food menu at one of the tables around the edge of the ball room. Isabelle was looking over the list of meals the House Elves had prepared for the day. They had a small family of elves, the parents and the child one, though the child was now grown. They had decided to keep them all. Thus the family had a family of elves. The three House Elves had been just as busy as they had, preparing the Estate's manor for the guests. They had polished every surface until it was gleaming, cooked a meal large enough to serve Three whole Houses at Hogwarts, and set to work on cleaning their uniforms so they would look their best as they served the guests and as the one cared for the youngest. Ashley waved her wand, cleaning a mess in the kitchen she had accidentally caused. She had spilled over one of the plates of snacks that were to be set out for the guests. Perhaps that showed how stressed with this whole ordeal the Governess was in. She was usually rather graceful, except today. Yes today she was causing problem after problem, unintentionally of course. As she dumped the soiled snacks and sandwiches into the trash she let out a sigh, only to notice one of the house elves was already preparing a new batch. She smiled, they were such kind and helpful creatures. Eric and Lukas were sitting by the entrance. Waiting on greeting the guests to arrive. The path to the Ballroom in the back of the Manor was the only part of the whole Estate lit, besides the Ballroom itself. It was an interesting sight. The Entrance Hall filled with light, all corridors leading away roped off and dark besides the one leading to the ballroom. Austin was in the Ballroom, looking over the music and discussing the playlist with the musicians. A rather interesting conversation between the pianist and the conductor. It seemed the Conductor had been told by Isabelle how skilled Austin was on the piano, and it seemed they wanted Austin to play a song with the Orchestra. Austin was amused by this, but eventually agreed to do it. The Time was passing so rapidly. Austin had just determined which song he would play with the conductor and then the first guests arrived. The Roux Family was walking up the front steps. Yes, they had been here before, many times in fact - they had spent the last week in one of the cottages and been helping arrange for the ball. They were all dressed rather finely. Blais, Brys, and Annabelle could easily have been picked out as part veela in the way their outfits seemed to glow only to increase their natural good looks. The Roux family made their way to the Ball room and took a seat at one of the tables. The clock struck 4 ands the orchestra gently began a light musical melody that the guests would enter to. Isabelle vanished the papers she was looking over. Alexander joined his wife at the head of the Ball Room. Austin began to seek out where Jinhai had sneaked off too. It was time for the ball to guests to arrive and so the House Elves took their places. The father by the Entrance to the ballroom, a list of guests in his hands. He was to announce the introduction of each person as they arrived. And the youngest was to care for the children in the room of the hall. While the mother prepared to dart around with the snacks and foods.

Andrea stepped towards the home of the Brighton's. She wasn't completely sure how she felt about this but she was still excited. It had been several years since she had seen any of the family and had been a little shocked to be invited. She entered and was immediately carried away into her own world by the music. Now she was certain she would enjoy herself. Andrea knew it must have looked very strange to anyone who really knew her to see her dressed this way. It was lucky if you got her in real clothes, let alone makeup in heels, though she'd be lying if she said she didn't enjoy it. That was probably also a big surprise to anyone who knew her. Right now, if she had an opinion she would say she looked pretty darned fine right now, at least she felt that way. She gripped her black clutch tightly and looked around. It appeared she was one of the first to arrive, this was bound to be interesting. ooc; outfit in top pic

The Clarisse Family... Johnathan//////////Mary Jane//////////////Chloe////////////////David///////// Goblin Liaison Office///////Healer//////////////Hufflepuff//////////Gryffindor////// Location: Brighton's Estate The Clarisse family approached the Brighton Estate. Chloe had dreaded the idea of attending since she found out about it. Now it seemed that David felt the same way. "They have a lovely home." Mary Jane said looking over at her husband. "Yes they do." John agreed. "This is going to be so boring..." David muttered under his breath. "Maybe your girlfriend will be there." Chloe told him. "You think so?" he asked with excitement. "Who knew that would interest you...?" she muttered. "What you make it sound like it's a bad thing?" David told her. "No of course not..."'I wonder if Sun's family will be here...' Chloe thought as she fell silent. By Sun's family she really just wanted to see Sun not that she would mind seeing Chase and Autumn. "Are you day dreaming?" David asked. "No!" Chloe snapped. "Chloe, David that's enough." John said breaking the two up. "Sorry dad..." Chloe apologized. "Yeah sorry dad…" David followed suit. Walking in the ballroom looked amazing. Hard to believe this was the place a Hogwarts professor lived. Taking a seat at one of the tables Chloe opened her bag and pulled out a set of notes she couldn't leave these few hours out of her study time. "Chloe put those away." Mary Jane told her daughter. "Fine..." Chloe knew she wouldn't win this battle maybe while her parents were socializing she could go into a corner and study without them knowing. Stats' Johnathan: Hopefully the kids won't cause to much trouble... Mary Jane: Happy Chloe: I wonder if Sun will be here David: This is going to be boring... Who we're with: Those at the ball OOC: ---((Outfits linked to pictures))

His head was held high, his eyes casting an arrogant gaze on the people around him. The noble Edgeworth wasn't entirely certain why he was still bothering to attend this thing; social events had always been Dahlia's thing, after all. A pointless excuse to gossip and form bonds based on mutual disdain for those they deemed worthless. He wasn't particularly in the mood to deal with it; he cared little for gossip, but had no doubt that there was plenty being spread about him. Or, rather, about his wife, the miserable hag. He knew that she'd made her affair rather public in an attempt to shame him, revenge for the slight of allowing his House-Elf dominion over them. Likewise, he'd already heard the whispers about the circumstances leading to her eviction from his home. He had no idea how word about that had gotten out; he would've thought the foolish woman would've wanted to keep such a thing quiet. But, it seemed not, because he'd already heard several theories on what had happened, a few of them being not such a far cry from the truth. All these thoughts weighed heavily on his mind; the man standing with his son and the young woman was not the man he'd been at home, the man she'd come to know. He was a wholly different creature, an imposing figure of pure, noble breeding. He wore his regal lineage like a shield, daring anyone to let him overhear an ill word attached to his name, to his sons. He didn't want to talk about Dahlia, didn't want to hear anyone say the harpy's cursed name. He was only here because Damien had wanted to go, and after the events at the Circus the summer before, the elder Edgeworth was loathe to allow his son to any such event alone, or accompanied by his girlfriend. Wesley's world was turning upside down, and he couldn't stand the idea of anything happening to either of them. It might undo him. So, here he stood, wearing his shield, a firm hand on his son't shoulder, guiding and directing him. Showing everyone who would look exactly who he was and what he was about.
Damien, for his part, was quite happy to be here. His hand clasped Marina's gently, and he offered her a small smile, watching her from the corner of his eye. He knew what his father was doing, what the cause of the quiet, almost cruel air about him was. It was unsettling to see that man again, the cold, distant figure his father had always been in his youth. Like a shadow, ever watchful, but never coming close enough to get to know. He kept having to remind himself that things were different now. That the air of superiority clinging to the older man was a preemptive defense against the rumors circulating in regards to his mother. Damien didn't feel like dealing with them any more than his father did, so he'd leave his father alone for the night. He gave Marina's hand a light squeeze. Tonight was supposed to make up for how awful their last big date had ended up (nothing says bad date like countless murders, after all). ════════════════════════════════════════════════ (( OOC: )) ...

I can see, when you stay low nothing happens Does it feel right? Late at night, things I thought I put behind me Haunt my mind I just know there's no escape Once it sets its eyes on you But I won't run, I have to stare it in the eyes Stand my ground, I won't give in MARINA EUGENIE ALDRED PROUD HALFBLOOD SLYTHERIN SIXTH YEAR PREFECT
Though this might just be the ending: Somewhat comforted | Of the life I held so dear: Just keep holding his hand...| I won't run: Damien and Wesley | There's no turning back from here: Brighton Estate | What comforted Marina was Damien's gentle grip on her hand. Otherwise she might have been more than a little uneasy. This was not the sort of thing she was used to. It was a ball. A lavish, fancy, completely foreign setting. Sure, she'd attended the Masquerade Ball, but that had been open to everyone and at a public circus. Not exactly the same as a private event. She gripped Damien's hand far tighter than he was gripping hers. Not that she was intimidated by any of this or anything. She was Marina Aldred. She could handle anything. Except that Mr. Edgeworth seemed very determined to scare everybody off, and honestly she couldn't blame him. Rumors about his wife, ex wife, she wasn't quite sure what they were now, were probably flying all over the place. She'd been horrified to learn what the vicious woman had done to Brownie. It made her tense just thinking about it. Ugh. The redheaded girl made sure to take small steps in her high heels and not to mess with her hair, which had been tamed into perfect, coiled ringlets with her mum's help. A hero is one who knows how to hang on just one minute longer No more denying, I've got to face it Won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside If I don't make it, someone else will Stand my ground It's all around, getting stronger Coming closer, into my world I can feel that it's time for me to face it Can I take it?

Drusilla Somerset had been quite surprised to be invited to the Ball; she only knew Lukas Brighton in passing, if at all, because they both were employed at the school. But, she'd been more than happy to accept the invitation; any excuse to be out of her tomb of a home was welcome. So, she'd gone through some old closets, found an old ballgown, some of her mother's jewelry and bought new shoes. She felt rather pretty, if she were honest with herself. And always, there was that shadow lurking over her shoulder; whispers of things to come, most of them rather unpleasant. She couldn't shake the feeling that there was something close on the horizon, some little thing that was pricking at her nerves and trying to reveal itself to her Inner Eye. But, for once, she was refusing to look. Her gift, if it could be called that, had always made her strange, had made people give her strange looks and not particularly care to want to befriend her. Now she had one friend, Lulu, who she was very much hoping would be here tonight. But, she would also like the chance to at least pretend to be normal. Talk to people, make more friends. Perhaps chat with a man (or a woman, she wasn't picky in that regard) she found attractive, flirt a little. If she even knew how. She wasn't so sure... she didn't think she'd ever tried. But, tonight, she was determined to. She needed something, after all. Something to take her away from that echoing loneliness, and from the voices in her head, which had been her only company until coming to teach at Hogwarts. She counted herself as very fortunate to've had the opportunity to do so; otherwise she'd still be cooped up at home, with no one and nothing. It was a rather depressing thought... and one that she was forcing away. She planted a smile on her face, and her eyes sparkled with excitement. A ball, she was going to a ball! How fun! The Seer was determined to make the most of the night, no matter what.

Siobhan Rose McCann Lowery stood near her Sister-In-Law with an excited, albeit somewhat nervous, look on her face. The normally composed, mature woman was practically tittering with excitement at having been invited to a somewhat exclusive event by a family with such a well-known name. She'd never been particularly social, even when Davin had been courting her. Most of their dates had been rather private affairs, dinner at private tables, walks through a forest, things like that. Oh, there's been formal events here and there, but they'd been few and far between. Besides, she'd always been on his arm then, never straying too far from him. Tonight, however... she was here, dressed up in a beautiful gown, her hair and makeup done, looking like a proper lady... and single. It was an odd feeling; she'd even left her wedding ring at home, feeling no need to drag the past along with her tonight. No, she wanted this to be the first day she spent as her own woman. Davin, rest his soul, had been gone for a year now, and it was time that she started to move on. Perhaps flirt with a few men, dance with someone. She had nothing holding her back but her own ties to her dear, departed Davin, and as much as she still missed him... well, let's just say memories weren't going to keep her warm at night. And while she wasn't particularly interested in meeting anyone new on this exact night (though if it happened, she wouldn't knock it), she was more than eager to at least dip her toe in the pool. Her nerves were wound, but in a good way, and she was determined to find a dance partner, at the very least. Surely there would be a few single men... hopefully, near her own age, although if an older or younger man were to catch her eye, she wouldn't deny them a dance. Yes, the night was full of possibilities... she just had to look for them.

Landon Price Former Hufflepuff Muggle Studies Professor Location: Brighton's Estate Landon was shocked that he was ever invited to the ball. He'd only been teaching for a few years at Hogwarts so he really didn't know Lukas Brighton all that well. However he couldn't turn down an invitation even if he didn't fully understand why he had received it. Walking in Landon couldn't even compare the looks of this estate to his small apartment. Then again he was just one person and for most of the year he really wasn't living there. Looking around the room Landon's eyes stopped on who he believed was Germaine Umber the Hogwarts librarian. She was dressed in gold even her glasses were gold. "Germaine Umber you look stunning." Landon told her as he walked up to her. 'Who knew a librarian could stand out.' he thought. Landon had the pleasure of only being a couple of years older than Germaine and it just so happened that they were both sorted into Hufflepuff when the time came. [ x ]:: Attire :: [ x ] Twitchy and Annoyed :: Mood :: Tingling with Excitement Brighton Ball :: Location :: Brighton Ball With Lulu, Drusilla :: With :: With Colin, Drusilla
When the Huckabee siblings made it to the Brighton Estate, Lulu smiled, her eyes sparkling in awe as she marvelled at the beauty of the mansion. "Ooo~ c'est magnifique! Aren't you excited, Colin? Come!" Before Colin could even answer, Lulu hooked her arm with his. She spared no time in dragging her brother along, walking briskly through the front doors. It took a superfluous amount of time and talk to sway Colin, though thankfully Lulu had prepared a month in advance for the ball, and essentially made her brother promise he'd attend with her. So now here they were... the ball was just beginning, and for the next several hours Colin would have to endure mindless chatter and indulge in the illusory spoils of status and wealth. The thought of it put a frown on the man's face, and the expression didn't change even as he was dragged into the reception hall and through the corridors. It wasn't that Colin didn't like to socialize... no, he just wasn't one for grandeur and theatrics. Everything felt out of place for him... the mansion and its hosts and guests were all so prim and proper, a dazzling display of wealth and status, it was all like sensory overload. He could feel a small headache creeping up already.
But a promise is a promise... he'd find a way to make his sister repay him in the future. As they finally made it down the corridor to the ballroom, Colin tangled his arm from Lulu's. "I dunno Lulu... I never liked this kind of stuff... this suit feels weird on me." Colin's hands had already been busy at work pulling at his tie and collar. "When did you say this thing ends? I.. have stuff I need to--"
"Ooh silly brozer~" Lulu said as she giggled. "Enjoy yourself, ze night will be very exciting. I will introduce you to mes collègues. Come!" Lulu linked her arm with Colin's once again as she guided (more like pulled) him through the ballroom. It was every girl's fantasy. She felt young again, as if she were living in her little fairytale world where she was a princess, and the excitement was showing on her face. Lulu loved social events. The ones where she got to dress up were her favourite, and she spared no expense where that was concerned. She'd even picked out Colin's outfit as she was almost certain he would've gone out in a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. As they crossed the ballroom, Lulu immediately recognized several faces - Professor Landon, Madame Germaine, and her friend Drusilla, whom she almost didn't recognize until she got closer to the professor.
"Ah~ bonsoir Drusilla! You look stunning as ever, I almost did not recognize you from afar!" Lulu said, smiling. "Isn't zis ballroom beautiful? Ze Brighton family must really know 'ow to celebrate. I am so excited." This wasn't a lie - Lulu was glowing with excitement. It had been years since Lulu last attended anything on this level, and she wasn't like to forget tonight no matter how good or bad it went.
Colin untangled himself from his sister once again before coughing softly as if to draw her attention. He was feeling awkward already. "Hi, pleasure to meet you, my name is Colin... I'm Lulu's brother." He said, half-distracted as his eyes focused on a tray of food across the room. Absent-mindedly, Colin began to speak again. "Can I... grab either of you two anything? Drinks? Or.. something?" He was focused on the tray now, and realized that it was being carried out by a woman and not just floating around the room. Either way, he was going to stuff his face whether his sister or her friend wanted some or not.

She looked so beautiful, and she seemed happy. He still missed his father greatly, but the wound was starting to heal. It was hard to stay alone in a room when there were kids everywhere demanding attention, or trying to hide from adults. His cousins had become like siblings to him over the time that had past. It's just another war Just another family torn Just a step from the edge Michael led the group into the home of the Brighton's, ignoring the annoyed looks his oldest daughter was giving. He had invited her to come seeing as she was indeed a McHalen by birth, blood, and certificate. She could have declined but instead she said she would come. He was still unsure why. Upon entering the ballroom, Michael immediately spotted his coworker Wesley Edgeworth and headed over.
"I take you are well Wesley?" He greeted. He, of course had heard the rumours of the Mrs. Edgeworth, and had also had them confirmed by Gracie and Michelle at least to a small extent. But he wasn't one to pry into the lives of others. He would hate for anyone to pry into his family and find out their dirty little secrets.... At the thought, soft blue eyes flicked to Gracie and then Michelle. The two seemed prone to hold all his darkest despairs. Michelle followed her 'father' begrudgingly into the house. The only reason she had come was to escape the cramped cottage of the Blythes for a night (without getting in trouble with Ada or her parents), and because there was always the small chance that maybe Tay would appear at the ball. He did have a knack for appearing just when she was getting bored after all. Besides those two reasons, Michelle had an ounce of a feeling that Gracie needed watching over too and no one seemed willing to do that besides her.
With a small sigh she followed her father over to Damien, his father, and Marina. "Hello Damien. Hello Marina." She greeted the two quietly. Her voice held no malice what-so-ever. Which was a slight surprise seeing as she had disliked Damien and had no care for Marina for most of her time at school, up until about last year. Michelle was wearing another pure white dress with white heels. Her long white hair was in a waterfall braid and she wore the smoky makeup she had become accustomed to ever since she could remember. Gracie slipped away from her family as soon as they entered. Lucky for her the sun had somehow set early tonight and she was able to attend the ball on time instead of coming late. As her uncle said, her coming late would be 'bad for appearances'. She was just another one of his little secrets she supposed. With a small sigh she slipped through the crowd looking for one particular face. She knew he would be here sooner or later, she just had to find him.
It would be strange to see him though. She for once wasn't adorned with cherry red hair, or pink or blue, or green, or anything else. Her hair was a normal simple brown. Not her natural blonde, but still a normal colour. She wondered if he'd even recognize her at first. To make up for it, she was wearing a bright blue dress that complimented her glowing eyes brilliantly, and casted her deathly pale skin in a more... natural tone. Elli and Ver were the last in the line of McHalens. They had come upon their father's request, but neither seemed very excited to be there. Dances were fun for Elli if they were exciting and fanciful, but a ball for a family she didn't know that her family was invited to only because of her father's importance in society seemed like a total bore. Ver on the other hand just really wasn't one for dances or parties or anything. The only thing she could find to appreciate was the simple pleasure in the beautiful classical music she was sure to hear.OOC: ...
