The dragon's bellows and demands made Insk snort. he sent back, sharing his words with any that cared to listen. Starting to drool at the renewed scent of blood Insk batted the human on the floor with his claws; he still didn't want to get his eyes too near it.

He was not going to die here!
Claws swiped at his face but he had enough wriggle room to evade the attack. Before it could claw at him again Bereck swung a punch at the brown's muzzle, still struggling to get free and get back to his feet.

Did he hear running feet? He thought he heard running feet. Trusting the bed to keep the door shut Inyad got to his feet and peered in the direction the sound was coming from. Maybe they were on his side, coming just in case the dragon's call had summoned resistance fighters?

It was a slight young brunette with glasses who sighted Inyad down the rows of beds, hair askew and expression suddenly focused. Bed. Door. A man. Standing there. Waiting.
He drew his own conclusions and charged.
"You- ********- b*****d- call it off!"

Insk yelped as the fist hit his nose; this human hit hard! It had also now squirmed out from underneath him and got back to its feet. he broadcasted, bellowing at the same time and flinging himself at the nasty human.

[Bereck: Defending]
As he staggered upright Bereck heard a voice outside the door, a very familiar one. Shards! He had told him to stay safe! He had told him-
-Wher!
As the beast screamed at him and claimed him as its next meal Bereck dived to one side, clenching his jaw in anticipation of more pain. The claws caught him on the back of his left thigh this time, and he only narrowly avoided collapsing when he next took a step on it.
Aleck was outside. Aleck should not be outside. Aleck should be somewhere safe!... If the wher killed him, Aleck was next on the menu. Teeth bared Bereck rounded on the big brown beast. New objective; stay alive as long as possible, and kill the wher!

Wow, so apparently Aleck could get angry. It was like seeing a small puppy abruptly morph into a guard dog. With nothing to add other than 'what he said' Calrtis kept quiet and cracked his whip menacingly.

Not friends then, but he wasn't going to back down! As soon as Insk told him the healer inside was dead he could pull the door open and have him go for these newcomers. Showing off neat white teeth in a brittle display of bravado, the handler clenched his fists. "Make me!"

Not waiting for one of them to go for him first, Inyad rushed forward and took a swing at the angry guy with the glasses.

This wasn't like the other fights - there was no hesitation, no talk this time. Aleck met Inyad head on, taking the hit to the side of the head. Ears ringing and mouth contorted in a silent snarl, he whipped his elbow across the handler's face. There were some advantages to being all limbs.

Speed was of the essence here; Carltis moved swiftly to the opposite side of the handler from Aleck and swung his whip at the man's back.

This time he made only a token effort to get out of the wher's way. Talons raked down his chest, and fangs snapped just short of his neck. Snarling back at the animal Bereck clawed at the brown's eyes; he might only have fingers with short neat nails, but that didn't stop him trying to tear its eyeballs out! The more he did to it now the better chance Aleck stood when its handler inevitably turned it on him.

As the whip licked across his back Inyad yelped in pain; this wasn't a fair fight! As he took another wild swing at Aleck, the hypocrisy of this thought did not even cross his mind.

He wasn't bothering to block, though a little voice, the core of his basic Aleck-ness, was saying 'Avoiding injury might be a good idea.' Another voice retorted that avoiding the greatest injury was priority, and the fist slamming into his shoulder counted as 'acceptable losses.' Taking advantage while he was close, Aleck grabbed for the man's head and drove it into the nearby wall.
