"You HIT me!" Trattan exclaimed, head ringing from the blow. His return strike - aimed for Aleck's side again - had nothing to do with the revolution, just his shocked indignance.

"What did you expect?" the blond retorted. Some self-preservation instinct moved his hand, deflecting the apprentice's fist away and swiping an elbow back at the close-shorn head, his other arm to his side. He didn't like this at all, fighting a kid. A kid who was hitting him, grant you, a kid who probably would have pummeled him if they were the same age, but still just a kid.

"Only to take back what's ours! You bleed us dry!" That was a haymaker he couldn't dodge; Banyil tried to catch the other man's incoming fist with both hands and managed to buffer some of the blow.

That had hurt, and Trattan's nose was now sitting at a wrong angle. Briefly stunned, the apprentice wailed and flung himself at his opponent, all semblance of technique gone.

Congratulations, Aleck, you're beating up a small child. A child, anyway; the apprentice looked like he'd been constructed from small wine casks and sausages.
"Shards, are you all- oof!" That answered that question. Aleck stumbled back and took a wild fist to the ribs before he got his bearings and aimed a knee at some part of the apprentice's lower anatomy, but he missed.
His father would be so proud.

Banyil would have had an answer for that, but Carltis had a knee in reserve. With a pained "Hngh!" that started as a squeak, he attempted to tackle Carltis to the floor. Or possibly headbutt him. It was really difficult to tell.

And now he was on the floor again. Having recently had bad experiences with being on the floor he tried to knee his opponent again before scrambling back to his feet.

"I hate you!" It was a blubbering sob that mixed flecks of blood with snot and spittle. Later Trattan would reconsider the romance of being a revolutionary, but for now he just aimed a solid foot at Aleck's knee.

It took time to rebalance, and in that time the plump young apprentice had delivered a solid blow to his other knee. Aleck revised his assessment of Trattan's makeup to include 'heavy bricks,' and since it didn't seem like he'd be damaging anything too valuable, aimed a fist as the boy's ear. It lacked the technique and had too much guilt to be called a punch. "Look. Can we just.. you stop trying to hit me, I stop trying to hit you and the Weyrhealer doesn't hear a thing about this?"

"Trattan! Don' you d-" Banyil did not know the word for the thing Carltis' knee had just hit (for the curious, it was 'solar plexus') but he did know a very profane word to utter with what was left of his breath. As the weyrbrat tried to get up, the compromised wherhandler grabbed for his ankle to let gravity do the rest of the work.
It was possibly the most intelligent thing he'd done in the last five minutes, and it failed.

Carltis' balance was not exactly on top form, but he just about managed to stagger free of Banyil. Spitting blood he turned and snarled at the wherhandler. "Wher ******** shitbag!" With this eloquent insult that would no doubt be remembered through the ages, he tried to stomp on the b*****d's face.

"I really don't want-" the blond began, almost wearily. There was no good way to fight a kid if you weren't also a kid. He'd grown out of that category a long time ago and hadn't been evenly matched even then; if he'd believed in Fate, he would've believed it had an inappropriate sense of humor.
Aleck aimed a hard stomp at the apprentice's foot. He had the decency to look embarassed about it.
