Yeah, I love wolves and raptors to death too, but I would never keep one as a pet. Which is exactly why I'm going into wildlife management; so I can watch and take care of them in the wild, where they belong. ^^
And Lucy: I think you got all the myths I was thinking of.
So here's the first question for your question post:
Is guano really a food staple in some African countries or was that too exaggerated in movies like "Ace Ventura 2?"
And what is the fear of bats called?
And I think the storing of sperm until next season is a pretty interesting bat fact. wink
Oh, yes! And it is it a law in all states that exterminators are not to kill bats and is it illegal for regular citizens to kill bats?

I like this thread, sissa. The pictures may be cute, but they are cuter in real life. Don't you think?

Angley i love bats. And i hate the myths about them. Me too, Angley. I know some people who are just terrified of bats, but not more dangerous animals, and I just don't get it. Bats will do whatever they can to avoid people and so they don't attack you, not even if they are rabid. You are much, much more likely to get a disease from a raccoon and yet you don't hear of people terrified of raccoons, do you? The best I can figure is that bats flying around invoke a startle response in people. One minute, you don't see them and the next they're flying all over in what seems to be an erratic behavior.

I'm doing a presentation on echolocation in microchiropteras for my senior capstone class (it's the class I need to graduate). In a couple of weeks I'll have my B.A. in Biology. Your research sounds very interesting.

Thanks, Serenity. It is very interesting and a lot of fun. I can only hope to find a job this fall that will allow me to continue to work with bats. As for you paper, have you read anything by M. Brock Fenton? He is one of the top researchers on bat echolocation. Try Googling his name. Congrats on your degree! What's next for you? Grad school? Job? Something else?
