Just as she was wondering what to do or say, he took the decision out of her hands by speaking first. Thank Arceus. "Thank you," she said in vaguely nervous tones, and then in an attempt to push the nervousness aside in favor of acting more normally, "you don't look half bad yourself," she teased with a coquettish smile.
The other topic, however, made her shake her head, causing wisps of dark hair to fall forward from behind her shoulders. She pushed them back on one side before replacing her hand on his shoulder. "Me too, but that guy's an idiot." So let's not talk about him.

Glee! He liked that smile of hers, he really did. He really was a dork. He couldn't seem to regret it that much. "Heh, yea," he nodded to her assessment of Izaya, happy to let the subject drop. "You know... I'm not sure what I'll put in my report," he went on, "I really wasn't focusing on it that much once I found you." He'd think of something, he did vaguely recall the speeches and everything but... yeah, hadn't given the, his full attention exactly. "It might be nice to do stuff like this more often," he added in slightly hesitant tones that implied that if Claire didn't really want to then that was cool too.

Eee, he really did make her feel good with all these compliments, direct or otherwise. "Sorry I was such a distraction," the agent said jokingly, still with that same smile on her face.
The song ended, but shortly after a similar one started. Still pretty, still slow(ish), still instrumental.
After a quick assessment of the music - they didn't really need to do anything different for this song - then smiled up at him more shyly. "It might be nice, yeah."
The songs continued to end and play another, and by the time they ceased completely at least an hour had passed. The dancing slowed to a stop as well, and Claire lifted both arms to slide them around Aulus's shoulders. She rested her cheek on one with a smile. "This was fun."

"Um. Yeah." Aulus wrapped his arms around Claire's waist, enjoying just being close. He remembered the first time she'd ridden on his bike with him, how long it had taken her just to get near let alone touch him, and how uncomfortable she had seemed. There was something behind all of that, he was sure there was, but tonight didn't feel like the time to ask; she looked beautiful, really beautiful, and he didn't want to bring up heavy subjects that would ruin this perfect moment.
"I mean, it was," he added with a soft smile, realising that what he'd said had been rather vague. Raising one arm from her waist he tucked her hair behind her ear. "I'm glad I went, and that we came back here... can't remember the last time I had an evening this good."

Had Claire been a mind reader, she would have heartily agreed that such subjects should not be brought up. Preferably not at all ever.
When his fingers brushed her hair back, her cheeks pinked and she buried her face into his shoulder with a smile. "Me either," she admitted when her face emerged, her cheek brushing against his. After a hesitating briefly she lifted it a bit more to plant a gentle kiss on his cheek. "We should do it again sometime.."

"Um. Yes. We should."
He wanted to kiss her really quite a lot, but he was scared, and more than that he was scared of scaring her. She was relaxed right now and he didn't want to ruin that but... but if he didn't do something would they remain at this stage forever? He didn't want that.
"Claire...."
He didn't really have any words, so actions would have to do. He brought a hand up to her face, lifted her chin gently, and looked down into her eyes. After a few heartbeats he started to lean in towards her; she could easily step back if she wanted to but if she didn't want to then... he really hoped she didn't want to.

It was the way he looked at her that got her most. He hadn't ever looked at her like that before, and it made her eyes widen a fraction, her cheeks darken a bit and her lips part very slightly. No one had looked at her like that in quite a long time - she almost didn't know what to think or do about it.
Almost.
Without hesitating, she leaned into him and wrapped an arm around the back of his neck to help get her some leverage - he was still taller than she was, after all - before she closed her eyes and pressed her lips to his.

There were no thoughts in his mind, no coherent ones at any rate.
The only thing in the world was her, and her lips.
Wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close Aulus returned the kiss.
