Marley found that she really liked this Alexandre. He seemed to have a strong liking for gardening just like she did and he was easy to get along with. She couldn't think back to the last time she kind of just hung out with friends. It had been too long ago. Her life was just consumed with tutoring, school, gardening, home, and the occasional singing gig. She should really get out more.
She gladly accepted the basil plant he picked out for her. Her eyes inspected every leaf, nodding at his description. "It does look really healthy. Not too big, perfect for it to grow out in my garden." He had a good eye. Well, of course he would. He probably knew way more about gardening than she did.
Lady bugs, she hadn't thought to get them. Probably because she had been overly excited about getting praying mantis eggs. She loved to watch them in her garden. They weren't a bother to her, though she knew some people that ran at the sight of them as if the praying mantis was scary. "I'm hoping it isn't bugs of any sort. If you want, you can come over tomorrow morning to look at them. I can tell you, they look kind of sunken in." It bothered her slightly that she couldn't keep them healthy. Her garden was probably the most valuable thing that she herself owned and took care of. "Yeah, the great thing too is that I can take their fallen leaves to help make my mulch. I'm kind of against using commercial fertilizers. Plants should be grown with all natural things, not processed stuff." Her spaghetti always had all natural produce or she hoped the meat really was from grass-fed beef.

"Precisely, and I don't like leggy plants, they can easily fall over, snap, and unless they are full of leaves they look too bare." They looked sickly when they were tall and lacked in leaves.
"I'll come by then, if you want to take my cell phone number down you can text me before you head over and I'll meet you there." That way he didn't show up before or after her and they miss each other. He'd rather her be there when he was so he could let her know what was wrong with her plant, if he could determine the problem.
Oh it was nice meeting someone with a mind similar to his own, as he heard her speak abut her mulching and her belief on not using chemicals. So many people really did jump right to spraying and powdering and using all manner of chemicals on their plants in order to get rid of all manner of things. "I agree, about what you use...and don't use. It also changes the taste using all those different things." He kept up with the list, every year, of the dirty fruits and veggies and made sure to clean the ones on the list extra. They might be dirty, more pesticides and other things on them but he wasn't going to change his diet every year and deny himself certain fruits or veggies. It just meant a little, or a lot, more cleaning of the produce he bought. And since he did grow a few fruits and veggies himself it did help in some ways, depending on what he was growing and what was on the list.

Marley nodded at his words. She didn't like plants that looked bare either and she didn't want any plants that were big already. It was best to start with a smaller, healthy plant.
She pulled her phone out of her back pocket. "Sure." Her fingers easily navigated the buttons and punched in his name. "Ok, what's your number?" The smile on her face showed how happy she was to get his number. Not because he was a guy but because he could help her with her garden and it was kind of nice to have a friend who understood her. He seemed to have the same ideals when it came to plants that she did.
He was right on the taste of food. You could always tell when eating the food the difference. Well, people who chose fresh food could tell. She was sure that those that ate processed food all the time wouldn't even notice. "Exactly why I grow my own tomatoes. That way the main ingredients for my spaghetti sauce comes from fresh, none processed plants. I hate processed foods." Ever since she had learned about how farms work in middle school, she had stopped eating anything canned. At home, she would refuse to eat most of the meals. She was kind of forced to learn how to cook so she wouldn't starve herself.

Watching her pull her phone out his own came out as well, a sleek black droid. Unlocking his phone he went to contacts and pulled up his own phone number so he could read it off to her. That done he went to where he could add contacts and added in her name, fingers moving across the on screen keypad with ease. "Alright, your number?"
"I don't grow tomatoes but I do grow other things." It was unfortunate that he didn't go shopping, for produce, at some co-op where he knew the stuff wasn't going to have chemicals on it. But he didn't. He dealt with scrubbing and cleaning his stuff more. He grew what he could, he really wished he had a larger greenhouse. What he grew wasn't nearly as much as he wished he could grow, he'd like more tea plants and more veggies and a whole lot more fruits. Maybe he could ask his mother if he could still use her greenhouse? He knew it wasn't in use right now, since he had moved out. But then he'd have to run there and handle things...or he could always write up directions for his father or work out some system to put on a timer. He could drop by on weekends and check things and make sure there weren't any pests or anything.
