He watched her slow and careful approach, curious and perplexed. She didn't walk like his other sisters did, bounding around the glade as if they owned it - well, I guess they did own it, didn't they? An affectionate smile spread on his face as she drew closer, and he blinked as she made contact with him. But instead of apologizing and moving away, she began to nose at him and sniff him. Upon further silent inspection of her, he realized, with mild shock, that she was blind and her treatment to him was her way of 'seeing' him.
"Can you see me yet?" He asked gently in his deep baritone voice.
"Tell me," She demanded of him, a smile creeping over her face.
"As you wish, gentle sister," He obliged, "I shall start with my hair. It is the same as yours, actually, beautiful, thick waves of curls, though they're colored differently. Instead of the jet black of a songbird wing, mine is the color of fire. Orange and red melding together to make warmth."
He brought his tail up to tickle her nose before he continued, "I also have fire on my leg and shoulder and eye, they let me see the world in a new light, if you will." She laughed at his pun, and he reveled in the sound, "The rest of me is colored like the purple of twilight. Plus I have this butterfly that won't leave me alone, just like you do."
"Thank you," she told him quietly, "I shant forget what you look like, brother."
He watched her with growing affection as she shuffled off as slowly as she approached.
Light is Life -
No sooner had one sister left, than another appeared this one bounding up to him. He was almost afraid she'd run right into him, but she stopped just short, her nose connecting with his briefly. It was his sister, Light is Life. He'd heard all about her, and all the advice was an understatement~! He could already see her enthusiasm ready to burst from beneath the surface, or at least what hadn't already burst out in the first place.
His smile was genuine as he stepped back a bit, watching her shift from hoof to hoof, as he attempted to greet her, "Hel-"
He barely got the syllable out before she interjected with a slew of questions. "Hi~! I'm Light of Life, what have you been named? Do you like it here? Have you met all the family?"
She took a breath and he took that opportunity to answer some of her questions, amusement clear in voice, "It's very nice to meet you. My name is Life Ablaze. I do like it here, I like being with the family, but I haven't met everyone, no, just my siblings and a couple of others. But now I've met you, and I'm glad for it."
He smiled wide and she just kept on asking questions, "That's great~! I'm glad to meet you too. I see you don't have a pet yet, are you going to get one? I have a songbird that I found that matches me. Do you like it? Oh~! Are you going to geet a songbird? They're so lovely. Eaglehounds are lovely too, and so are the cranes. Oh~! You should get one~!"
He laughed out. He liked this one, a lot. "No I don't have a pet, but I'd really like one. I'm not one to like being alone. I don't know who I'll bond with, though. I want it to be a real bond, a pet that wants to be with me, so I don't know when I'll find one."
She smiled at him, seemingly satisfied with his answers, and he'd thoroughly enjoyed answering them. "Well I have to go meet everyone else~! Have fun~!" And with that she bounced off to the next kin, interrogating in the way she did, leaving him to ponder happily.

Burning Heart was a handsome buck without any question. He grew up with does on his tail, and it wasn't necessarily a joy to have. He wasn't fond of does, always suspicious of ulterior motives that they may have for him. Needless to say that when Burning Heart discovered his new extended family, he wasn't exactly pleased. For swamp's sake, they were nearly all does! It worried him so extensively that he couldn't even bring himself to meet them right away. He fled from them, taking Lifeblood aside.
"They're all does," he confided in his brother.
"They're all does!" He yelped before his brother could even reply.
"They're definitely planning something."
"New Life is a buck," Lifeblood got in before Burning Heart could stop him.
Burning Heart looked around slowly, allowing his eyes to fall on New Life.
"He looks like he wants to eat me for simply looking at his sisters."
Lifeblood went to say something but Burning Heart ran off when he noticed New Life simply looking over toward them stoically.
He had disappeared into the swamp but eventually Burning Heart returned, but not upon his own epiphany. Lifeblood had tracked him down and convinced him to give one of them a real chance, to prove that they weren't going to stab him with a tree branch or something entirely worse. How could he possibly choose one of them? New Life would have had a fair chance had he not been convinced that simply walking up to him would be the end of his life so instead he loomed at a safe distance from the does until deciding.
Sunlight Garden seemed like a fair choice, and he felt relieved to find out that she was very friendly. He was not without his suspicions. He knew does played games, flashing their wide eyes to get their way. Oh, was he ever startled when the games began. She attacked him! Her nose turned into a deadly weapon, she hit his shoulder scale and then tried to fling him down by his hair. Oh, the horror! He knew this was a bad idea, how did he let his brother convince him into this?
Dramatically he would have continued had there not been a strange unnerving pause from his heretics. Burning Heart took a moment to realize that he fine. He was suspicious still, perhaps even more so than before, but he was fine. What sort of game was this doe playing? He refused to believe it when he found out she was blind but when he felt the eyes of New Life on his back he humoured the doe with his appearance.
"I am quite handsome," he said firmly. "Long, luxurious waves of sunkissed hair fall from my face. It is similiar to yours, but not nearly as dark. I am told does are quite fond of it though. My shoulder scale, as you may have noticed, is different than other kin scales. It looked a bit like a leaf. Generally I am quite grape coloured, have you had grapes? Those strange kin from the hills seem to be quite familiar with them."
There was a pause.
"Grape coloured I may be, I am not edible. Please make sure New Life knows this."

Light is Life
It was all Dream to Live could do to keep herself from backing away from the oncoming rush of bright and happy that was her sister. It was more than just the color of her hide that caught the eye. It was everything: the bounce in her step, the cheer in her voice, the enthusiasm leaking from every bit of her.
It was intimidating. It was wonderful! "One question at a time," Dreamer insisted. "I'm not sure how you keep track of so many all at once, let alone all the answers we'd give you." Well, those of her siblings who would answer at all. Dream to Live readjusted, settling her weight evenly on her hooves and tossed her head a litte, shaking her curly mane.
"I'm called Dream to Live," she introduced. "I can't tell you much about our father, because I can't remember seeing him, though I think I might know him if he wandered by. Still, that hasn't happened, so I won't know until it has. And yes, I do like your songbird, and birds in general. It might be nice to have one for company, but we can't force friendship on them, not even the smallest birds. Maybe one day, if I'm fortunate..."
And so it went, Light is Life asking questions and Dream to Live answering cheerfully, if occasionally remarking on how many questons there were. An endless flood. Until Dream to Live felt like she couldn't catch her breath with all the talking, and she excused herself politely, and made a retreat.
Lifeblood
To Lifeblood, the brother she knew best of all of those gathered here. Leaning against his side for a moment, she took a few breaths to literally catch her breath. "Well," she said, "at least there's one who doesn't seem to think badly of us. Maybe she thinks a little too well of us, as a matter of fact."
"They're not so bad, though," she went on. "We're just as odd to them as they are to us, don't you think? And to have us all just marched in and introduced? It's ... like having strangers in your den all of a sudden. Without an invitation." As her own words sunk in, she shook her head again. "We should be glad no one's fighting."
"Mind, I don't think a fight would last long. Not with him standing guard." She nodded in New Life's direction. The buck standing off by himself, observing, was a whole different sort of intimidating than his brightly-colored sister. "Let's hope it doesn't come to that. And if it does, I'm staying right here beside you. Safe and sound."
Safe, where she could watch and make mental notes about the others, but be out of harm's way, just in case.

Light is Life
Flare followed his mother and looked around eagerly at the new faces that were all just that little bit familiar since they were family. His eagerness however was quickly overcome by Light is Life's enthusiastic greeting. He listened, his tail twitching as he awaited an opening. Finally as she paused for breath he took the opportunity to introduce himself.
"I'm really glad to be meeting you and our other siblings today," he started. "My name is Spark of Life, but if you'd like you can call me Flare." He rushed on not giving her a chance to interupt with more questions.
"I like meeting new kin and learning what sparks their interests. Its amazing the different ways we all live and the places the other kin come from. I think I'd like to travel on my own some, maybe try to visit those places." His own enthusiasm was now showing as he talked about the possibilities, answering more of her questions and asking some of his own. "Your songbird is great. Is it good company? I think I would like to get a pet or familiar to travel with me. Maybe something bigger so we can protect each other."
The two continued to converse for a time playing off each others energy, until finally Flare felt the pressure of time. "I'm sure we'll meet again Light is Life, but we should probably see about getting to know some of the others here today."
Lifeblood
Spark of Life was starting to fade a little after having met the four half-siblings and happily approached one of his full brothers, Lifeblood. "I thought we were a big family on our own, but now to meet these... It's amazing but a little overwhelming isn't it?"
Flare still enjoyed it and that must have shown in his voice, because Lifeblood meerly nodded and let him continue on. "Light is Life was really nice, we talked for a while. I think we have a bit in common. I like how watchful New Life is and I hope he accepts our sisters into the family; even with the 3 of us it won't hurt for them to have another brother looking out for them." Especially since I won't be around much, he added to himself considering the travel he hoped to do.
"Sunlight Garden, is so beautiful like mother. Its such a surprise that she can't see. I couldn't believe it at first. I hope I didn't seem like a jerk when I flinched back when she first sniffed at me like that. I'm not sure what to make of Rhythm of Life, are you? I hope I didn't make a fool of myself with her as well. I think it went well today, but I can't help worrying. First impressions and everything can be so important and it could be so long before we meet again." Finally Flare just sighed, even his high energy overcome by the day and the summary thereof. "It's been a good day," he concluded with a nod and a grin.

Thank you everyone who entered! I enjoyed reading all of your stories, and quiet a few of them stuck with me! It was a really, really hard call! (On Buck 2 especially!) But anyway, you all wanna know who got what right? Right? And you guys are gonna love and charish and rp and breed these guys right right? Right! Because I will find you and take you out so help me.. Ahem, I mean, because you worked so hard it wold be a shame if they just gathered dust! And the winners are: Buck 1 - Burning Heart Sunny blinked a couple times, a puzzled look dancing across her face and turned, very dutifully to her older brother. "Bud, our brother Burning Heart requests that you know though he is colored as a grape, that he is not edable as one!" She said it a tone quiet serious, as if she was making a very important proclamation. New Life blinked, looked from her to Burning, back to her, back to Burning. His lips twitched and his whole body seemed to begin to vibrate. A deep, harty laugh, burst from New Life and echoed their glen. Lifeblood also grins, casually stomping onto Burning's tail so that he can't flee the scene. Sunny smiles, pleased with herself. Her new brother would be appaled to learn that she had planned New Life's reaction in order to quell Burning's discomforts. She had very keen hearing after all and the little conversation between the brothers made her feel bad about Bud's intimidating front. Of course, this would only serve to verify Burning's concerns about doe if he found out. Instead, she smiles a little vapidly and says in a bright voice. "I think that means he won't eat you now!" Buck 2 - Lifeline Light would love just about anyone who didn't directly hurt her or those she cared about, so to hear Lifeline say that he also liked to have a good time made her heart nearly burst! Finally finally, a sibling who might like to have as great a time as she did! She dearly loved all her siblings, but they were all a bit too serious or quiet for her at times. So joyous was she, that she didn't even notice when Lifeline quietly slipped away from her as she chattered off more questions. New Life's brow furrowed even deeper as his new brother whispered quietly to him his thoughts. Points though the other buck had, his knowledge and overt charm did even more to bring up his guard. The end of his tail flicked sharply but he said nothing to his young brother as he walked away to chat up another sister. He'd give this one the benefit of the doubt, a small one, for their mother's sake. But he'd keep an eye out on him. Rhythm's nose quirked up a bit at this new brother's oozing charms. It was off putting, but she kept her opinion to herself. Her face impassive, she merely responded in a cool tone towards him. "I believe my son and you shall get along famously. Perhaps you can teach him some of your lauded "independence" for he is in sore need." Her voice is cool, a slight, but sharp bite of ice tinge the end of every word. Whatever judgement's she'd made about him, he'd have to work harder to discover, but she'd bet he would read between the lines. "You do not impress me.." Only dear Sunny, quiet and gentle as she was, seemed to see through all his layers and deep into his core. She smiled at him and whispered a simple sentence in his ear. "I believe in you, welcome to our home." Doe 4 - Vital Sign Light's mouth hung open in shock at her new sister's rude retort. Her jaw worked to form words and none came out. Sunlight weathered Vitals' biting questions and remarks a little better, though her nose wrinkled in disapproval. She explained simply how she didn't go very far without company and had learned how the sound of her steps echoed off trees to help her navigate. She may have gone on talking to herself if she hadn't hear the other's steps trail off . New Life kept his face impassive as the little sister puffed up her chest and roared her declarations of being the toughest doe of them all. It was kinda cute. He was pretty sure if she saw him smirk, she'd clobber him with her hooves. With Light still gaping and the others in a stunned silence, Vital raced off into the swamp to live as she please. Sunny smiled, hearing Light's tiny little squeeks of shock, leaned her head against her sisters. "It's Ok, I'm sure she was just nervous was all. People can get nervous when they first meet others." Light's whimpers quieted and she was silent in thought. "Yeah...I bet you're right Sunny! She was just scared!" Light smiled and nodded. "Oh I hope she comes back soon so I can talk to her again so she won't be scared of us! Oh do you think i shouldn't ask so many questions or should maybe use a quieter voice like Sunny? Sunny will you teach me a quieter voice?!" Light rambles away while New Life bumps his shoulder against Sunlight's "I think that one got free from the motherfather before they could fit her with the buck parts." he said we a chuckle. Sunlight smiled and murmered in a tone of agreement. Doe 5 - Gift of Life Light bounced up and down excitedly to hear her sister's answers and charges forward before Faith gets out another word. "Our mother only makes the most awesome of awesome choices when it comes to fathers, so your father musta been something special!" She nods, barely inhaling, and continues. "I didn't know my father either very well and most of my blood siblings all ran off when they were old enough like Bud's siblings and Sunny and Rythmn's siblings and you and your siblings but oh you will come back to see us sometimes right right? You like flowers? Flowers are so pretty they come in so many colors, just like us actually, I have a lot of brothers and sisters in bright colors and patters, we're totally like flowers too, so I guess if you like flowers you must like us! I'm so glad cause I like you guys too!" Light continues to speak, barely breathing and no longer caring if she's being paid attention too. Sunny noses Faith lightly on the shoulder, looking at her with a sheepish grin. "You get used to it." she says in soft, gentle voice. There is a long pause between the two as Light continues to rattle off whatever comes across her brain. "I remember all of those things," Sunny says in a slightly wistful tone."The different colors of the skies as the sun traveled across it, the colors and shapes of things. I was a filly when I lost my sight." she trails off a little sadly, "but by the sound of things, you are a credit to our mother's beauty. I hope you will come back sometimes, like you told Light, and visit us." "Don't you agree ?" Light actually becoming quiet caused both sisters surprise. Light beams her happy grin at the both of them. "Just smile and agree," Sunny advises "Smile and agree." Buck 6 - You Only Live Twice Lifeblood rolls his eyes and ducks his head, embarrased by his brother's gentle prodding in front of all these new siblings he's yet to get to know. Under his eyelashes, as he keeps his head down to hopefully avoid further serenading from Live Twice, he watches the older siblings reaction to his schpeel. Light and Sunlight both grin and laugh in delight, thumping their front hooves on the ground in apprciation for his little show. Of course they would, the pair of them were happy, carefree types would enjoy such displays. The more stoic sister, Rhythm snorts and shakes her head in a disaproving manner but there is amusement sparkling in her eyes and a tiny smile hinting at her lips. Lifeblood turns his gaze to his elder brother. The buck of green and brown has his held tilted, ever so slightly, watching the spetical Live Twice is putting on. Surely the brother, who has gaurded his sisters and mothers for many a moon would not be easily impressed by such song and dance. But as he watched, he saw New Life's stance relax, his body uncoil, and very slightly, began to nod to the pulse of his new brother's beat. The buck chuckles and sheaks his head. Live Twice never failed to impress, not even this crowd. When silence filled the once symphonic air, Lifeblood's hooves joined in the the applause. He had to give his brother his due. But then came a new concern. How the hell was he going to top THAT? I have to say though you did not win, Sam (for the buck) and Lolli, I hope you guys use these personalities in the future because I so want to RP with them!! Winners! If you are happy with the name you have chosen, please post here saying so! If you change your mind, post here with your new name, but don't take too long please! I managed to totally miss the quote notification bubble somehow and thought someone else had won him, so I was reading through the incredible winners' announcement and making satisfied noises over the Life bbys' new personalities (having stalked the entries and staked out my favourites like a creeper *cough*) when I get to Buck Six and - WHAM. Astraaaaaaaaaa thank you so much I love you I love you I promise he will annoy Kin everywhere by singing about them all over the Swamp and have lots and lots and lots of babies aaaaah!!! Thank you so much for the amazing contest, I really liked the way there was a multi-'meti scenario going on (and appreciated that you gave us a bunch of options to choose from) and had a lot of fun putting my entry together! And your winners' announcement is. Just. EPIC. Sorry, Lifeblood! XD So much congratulations to the other winners - there were a lot of great entries and I really enjoyed all of yours!
