Oberon stayed by Ganymede's side for at least a few minutes as they walked along the tracks. See? He could be subdued for a while before getting restless again, especially in such an interesting place. But there was something about Ganymede's behavior that worried him. He glanced over at him every so often, then looked around at where they were, up at the buildings and bits of rubble around them.

He nodded in understanding as Ganymede explained what he knew about magic being used, thinking it could be pretty cool if they happened to stumble on some. But for now, it just seemed as though it was a normal, albeit old, city.

"What do you mean, see things?" he asked over his shoulder, cocking his head curiously to the side, before hoisting himself up the side of one of the boxcars blocking their path entirely. He figured he could have just jumped, but sometimes climbing was just as fun. "Like... things that other people can't see...?" he wondered, eyeing Ganymede more suspiciously now that he was looking down at him. It was easier to tell what others were thinking from a higher height and from below. It was easier to notice any shifting of eyes or fidgeting.

He hesitated for a few moments, before squatting down on the edge of the train car, frowning in wonder at his friend and mentor. "Is that what happened... before?" Hey, he was eleven, but he wasn't stupid. He could tell when someone was acting strange... and there was definitely something weird about how Ganymede had been acting earlier.

“You see memories,” Ganymede replied, “of the past. Or a past-life, really. At least I have, and Valhalla said he has. I don’t think his are all that distinct yet, though. Mine weren’t in the beginning. Just flashes of things every once in a while. It didn’t really make any sense until I started seeing more.”

He let Oberon climb up onto the boxcar without any complaint or warning, but made sure to keep an eye on him as he did so.

Or at least he did until another memory descended.

The train was intact, steaming on the tracks as another crowd of people who paid him no mind flittered about, filing out of the train onto the platform to enter the station or make their way toward waiting carriages. A severe looking gentleman in a dark suit stepped out of the car to Ganymede’s left, followed closely by a wide-eyed boy with pale blonde hair. It took the eternal senshi only a second to recognize the young face of Liesel, close to Oberon’s age and staring around in fear.

“Sometimes I come here to see what I can remember,” he spoke through the memory, assuming Oberon could still hear him, “to see if it’ll help find a way to end the war. So far I haven’t seen anything important.”

At least not in the grant scheme of things. That didn’t mean it still wasn’t important to him.

In the memory, Liesel looked toward the carriages and the station and down the length of the train, shying away from the crowd. The gentleman in the suit turned to frown at him and roughly grabbed one of his arms to drag him through the mingling of people with a muttered, “Come. This way.”

Oberon frowned, still concerned about his companion, especially when his eyes went glassy and it seemed as if he were focusing on things that didn't exist. It was a little scary to witness. Did he know he couldn't take a few steps forward otherwise he would fall into the track? Or that he could run into the overturned car?

The chibi senshi shifted uncomfortably, but not wanting to interrupt him in case there was something important that could help them end the war. Right now, to him, it was rather sad and empty... What had happened to all the people that had once lived there...? Had they all perished? Or did they just leave...?

He let out a small sigh as he stood up and took a few steps back so he could see around him a bit better, stepping right through some of the rotten wood that framed the windows.

"Ugghh," he moaned as he tried to right himself from inside the car. It seemed to be some kind of sitting room, and the wall leading out to what once was the 'hall' of the train had kept him from falling all the way to the bottom. That, and he'd been surprised to land on something... not soft, but it was cushiony. "I'm fine," he grumbled as he tried to push himself up, wondering if he could jump out from the edge of the couch-like armrest he was sitting on. With the whole car on its side it was a little disorienting, but it wasn't horrible.

Reaching around to see what had softened his fall, he felt what must have once been an old fur coat. He wrinkled his nose at it, not a fan of that kind of fashion at all, but that wasn't the only thing he took notice of. Across the isle in a similar way laid what was left of what looked like an old suit jacket and maybe a top hat. Not much of it was left of course, but he'd been around fancily dressed people enough to recognize a top hat when he saw one...

He also knew what bone looked and felt like, and while at first he thought he was just brushing his hand against one of the pair of shoes among the clothing he landed on, something white, smooth, and hard was hidden among the clothing. Bits of jewelry seemed to be scattered about as well, and with a sudden drop in his stomach, Oberon lept up from where he'd landed, reaching desperately up at the window, now wider than before with the hole he'd created.

"Ganymede!! Get me out!" he cried at the hole, trying to climb his way up the cushion of the couch, but not making it very far. "Paris!!"

Hearing the name “Ganymede” called out didn’t disrupt the memory too much since that was a name he was well used to hearing said in various tones on his moon, but as soon as the name “Paris” registered he immediately snapped out of it. The memory vanished in an instant, with Liesel and the well-dressed gentleman disappearing into the crowd, which disappeared back into the desolate landscape, and he was left looking around to figure out where Oberon had gone off to.

“Oberon?” he called, and then heard a commotion within the overturned train carriage.

He hoisted himself up onto the edge of it—surprisingly graceful in his awkward attire—and peered down inside in the hopes that the Chibi Senshi hadn’t hurt himself at all, but upon seeing the look on Oberon’s face he came to the conclusion that his young companion was more shocked and scared than hurt.

Ganymede reached down to first take hold of one of Oberon’s hands, and then grabbed onto one of Oberon’s arms with the other, bearing back and pulling him up through the break in the side of the train carriage. It took a few attempts but he finally managed it, getting him through the window and up onto the side of the boxcar, before jumping back down and helping Oberon get his feet firmly back onto the ground.

“And that’s why I told you to be careful,” he pointed out. He didn’t crouch down to Oberon’s eye-level since he thought that was sort of demeaning for such a precocious kid, but he still looked him over in concern. “You alright?”

Oberon was grateful to have Ganymede finally help him out of the car, grasping onto his hand and doing his best to climb up the decaying cushions of the seats until he finally made it up on the ledge and dropped back down to the ground. The second Ganymede let him go, he lifted his hands to rub at his arms, as if that would make the sudden nervousness would go away that easily.

He wasn't afraid of dead people. They weren't going to hurt him. As mainstream as zombies and vampires were, and as much as he liked to pretend to be preparing for an apocalypse of some sort, he knew they weren't going to suddenly attack him in his sleep. Youma maybe, but not dead people, much less the bones of them.

It was the fact that people had died in what he could only assume was a rather traumatic way that had him on edge, and he didn't like it.

"Yeah, I'm fine," he lied, not wanting to admit that he had been spooked. He was physically fine, of course... But he wasn't exactly willing to wander off again so quickly. "Can we go?" he asked suddenly, thinking that he'd had enough of this world and its death of the past. He knew Ganymede didn't know what had happened there, but he could only wonder what had happened in his own past. Would his world be like this...? Did he even want to see for himself...?

Ganymede didn’t quite buy the reassurance, especially since Oberon still looked a bit skittish and requested they leave soon after. He couldn’t say he blamed the kid. It was a rather creepy place when he ignored all the intriguing sights. He’d not taken much time to actually look in the train carriage as he’d pulled Oberon out, but he’d seen a couple of things out of the corner of his eye that he didn’t want to think about much.

How had these people died? What had caused this mess? Was it in any way related to what was happening on Earth now, or had it been the result of an entirely different circumstance?

The Eternal Senshi doubted he’d find any of those answers, not this time—maybe not ever. Instead, he gave one last look around, his eyes lingering for a moment on the train as if he expected another memory to wash over them, but then he was returning his attention back to Oberon, smiling at him reassuringly.

“Yeah, he can go,” he agreed, taking the Chibi Senshi gently buy the shoulder and guiding him around to put some distance between themselves and the train. He called his phone out of subspace as they walked. “You can take something with you if you want. A rock or a piece of stone. Like a souvenir. Just be careful of broken glass.”

For a moment, Ganymede wondered if he should be encouraging Oberon to do things like that, or if he should be encouraging him to leave everything as it was—like something sacred—instead. Eventually he shrugged it off with the thought that there wasn’t anyone around to miss a random rock. He figured this place belonged to him and he could do whatever he wanted with it. He didn’t even know if a souvenir would remain in Oberon’s possession, or if some sort of magic would carry it back to where it belonged.

Oberon rubbed at his arms a little more, even as Ganymede looked him over and said they could go. He was fine with being lead away from the site, not sure he knew what to think or how to feel about everything. At first he'd been excited... and now...? It was just spooky and depressing.

His interest did perk back up at the mention of being able to take something. "Really??" he asked in amazement, looking around for something interesting. There was a lot of stones and debris, but that wasn't really what he wanted. He wanted something more unique, and less looking like it was fabricated. There were some patchy areas of dead grass and what was probably other plants as well, and he started looking there, eventually pulling out a dusty pink and white veined stone.

More than likely it was probably a popular rock on the world, but he'd never seen anything like it. It could be confused for a quartz, but he was sure that if he tested it, it would come up with different results.

"Okay, I'm ready," he said after brushing off the dirt and reaching out to take hold of Ganymede's hand. While it wasn't the most fun adventure he'd ever been on, he definitely wouldn't mind coming back.

"Hey Paris...?" he said to get his attention, looking up at him with a slightly furrowed brow that soon evened out. "Thanks..." He hoped his babysitter knew it encompassed everything, from bringing him to visit, as well as saving him, and finally letting him keep something. He was used to doing things on his own, but having someone he could consider an older brother (or sister) was nice.
