Mitsu only smiled with reassurance as Shun looked toward her. Perhaps she was just stubborn but she would not believe this was a hopeless situation. Trying to encourage him to try again she waited until he finally sank and resurfaced.
"Ah, don't say that," Mitsu said with a frown. "We just need to try something else. Did you notice anything different when you were trying to swim? Maybe clearing your mind isn't the key perhaps we need to give you something else to focus on..." Though Mitsu wasn't sure what that would be.

Moving his hair out of his eyes, Shun grimaced while thinking about what she had asked.
"Helpless. I guess. It was faint, but I could swear there was something like that," he said with a shrug, "It was there as I was sinking."

Mitsu was by no means a psychiatrist or even a therapist but she thought long and hard on what that could mean. "Helpless...." She muttered to herself thinking.
"What's the earliest memory you have of swimming or being around the water?" Though she was afraid he was going to tell her it was when his father first attempted to teach him how to swim. In that case she knew how it ended and it was possible he was traumatized and didn't realize it.

Shun raised an eyebrow, trying to think about it.
"When my father was trying to teach me to swim. I think there might have been one other time prior but I really don't remember what it was exactly," he replied.
"Why?"

"Well....I was just wondering if...something might have scared you and you're holding onto it. Maybe its what's keeping you from making any progress. It's just a theory though, I really don't know." She admitted. It was hard to imagine Shun scared of anything but it was always possible. He wasn't a machine after all.
"I think its the same way with my fear of heights." She continued to explain. "I can't quite recall what happened but being up high fills me with a sense of dread that I can't overcome. I know something terrible happened but I'm not sure what. Maybe if I figure it out I'll be able to overcome it." She looked to Shun to see what he might have to say on the subject. Maybe she was completely off but it sounded like a probably theory.

"It isn't fear I feel though. I'm sure of that much," Shun noted. If it were, he would have been panicking. While he wasn't too emotive, he still knew what fear felt like. It wasn't something he felt too often, but he knew it when it came.
However, the mention of her own fear did intrigue him since he did want to help her get over that particular issue. It would be good to figure out the root of that, granted he wasn't sure where to start there. Shaking his head to himself, he thought back to the thing about swimming.
"But perhaps you aren't too far with your theory," he said with a frown.

"Do you think if you meditated on it you might figure it out?" Mitsu asked. She wasn't sure what else meditation could do but she knew on the Isles trances and meditation had revealed more than simply clearing one's mind and relaxing. In some ways it opened a Pandora's box of emotions.
"I'm not sure if it will help but it might be something worth looking into. I know your very capable and swimming once you get the hang of it is a simple task. Its good exercise and I really enjoy it...and I want to enjoy it with you." She smiled as she took his hand. "But for now let's give the front stroke another try. I have the floaties in my bag do you want me to get them?" OvO She was serious.

"Perhaps. Though, I hadn't tried to use meditation to unlock memories before. It may be worth a shot," he replied. Shun's expression soon softened as she mentioned that she wished to enjoy this activity with him. That expression vanished to a rather flat stare as the floaties were brought up.
"Leave them in the bag."
Letting out a breath, he went on to try the front stroke once more. He sank, as anyone might have expected. But, he kind of managed to dip himself up a little. Sort of.
It was more like he didn't sink as fast.

Embrace the dubbit floaties Shun~
That was what Mitsu's expression said when he told her to leave them in the bag. At least he seemed to do a bit better..marginally. It was some progress not to sink as fast. At least that's what Mitsu was going to tell herself.
"Floaties now?"

"No."
Catching his breath, Shun went down again, with about the same result. Slow sinking. This time, he was making a bigger splash with his movements as he struggled to try and stay or reach the surface. It didn't work out.

No floaties huh? How was that working out for you? Though Mitsu didn't say a word as Shun made another attempt. She simply watched until it seemed like he was struggling more than usual. When the excessive splashing began she moved in to help right him and get him to his feet. " You okay?"

Shun coughed lightly as he righted back up, taking a few moments to recover from that attempt.
"I'm fine," he nodded. Grimacing, he went back into the water. In his determination to try and actually swim, he ended up clawing at the water as if he was trying to climb his way up rather than actually doing proper strokes.

"Woah, wait." Mitsu said grabbing hold of Shun before he got too far and easily dragging him back toward her. Making sure he was upright and not sinking and drowning Mitsu took hold of his arm. "You're getting in too much of a hurry." She explained. "Grasping at the water isn't going to pull you through it. You're putting way too much energy into it."
Moving behind him Mitsu grasped his arms and showed him how to move. "Like this. Try not to think of the water as an obstacle. Just flow with it."

Breathing heavily as he was brought back up, Shun wiped the water from his eyes and looked to Mitsu. He quietly watched her, trying to get a handle of how she was moving exactly.
"Right. Right..." he murmured. This shouldn't be hard. He wasn't physically disabled. And yet he just couldn't move right once submerged.
Once he was ready, he went on to try once more. His movements were stiff as he was trying to not force himself to flail or grasp at the water like he did a moment ago. He managed to not sink like a rock, but he was still drifting downwards.

"Good that was better," Mitsu nodded moving to keep up with him as he surfaced again. "I almost wonder if it would be easier to try with scuba gear." Gear would be expensive to rent but it would take the worry of drowning out of the equation until Shun started to grasp what he needed to do. If anything the oxygen tank would be useful.
"Do you need a break?" She knew this constant trying would no doubt be exhausting and she didn't want Shun to get frustrated with it.
