"Something very personal," Nixie answered, in a tone that finished the conversation. Austin navigated the traffic smoothly, and then suddenly turned right so sharply that Nixie tipped into Kaori's lap. "Sorry--Austin! What's wrong?" "Someone is following us," he replied, still sounding businesslike but grim. Nixie let out a string of profanities that would have made a sailor blush. "To the airport--NOW!" "Yes, Ma'am!" Austin turned sharply again and accelerated through an alley. "Sorry, again, but I'll pay for a taxi ride from the airport to wherever you need to go," Nixie offered.

Kaori lurched and instinctively threw her arms out to stop from flying across the back seat. She recoiled and let out a short scream in pain as her right paw had slammed against the inside of the car and was overwhelmingly painful.
She spoke through her teeth as she leaned forward, cradling her arm. "I knew it was too good to be true." she said "You should check your purse again. Some creepy guy paid me to put a little micro-chip thingy in it."
"Feel free to ignore me here, but what good is it going to do to go to the airport? Won't these guys just follow us anyways? Besides... I don't fancy being stuck in line with these punks breathing down our necks..." She stopped long enough to think. "quick, gimme your phone and that bug."

Nixie passed the wallet and her purse to Kaori.
"Now I know why Austin didn't like you," she murmured. "He has a sixth sense about people. And the airport is the safest place. The security guards know us and we can get through customs fast. Austin will fly us out of here and we'll be in international airspace in no time."

She winced as she grabbed the purse and rifled through it grabbing the phone and the little bug out.
"Spare me your lectures." She said as she opened the phone and started to pull wires off. She pulled a knife out of her jacket sleeve and cut through the wire's plastic coating. After a few more seconds wrapping the pieces all together, she then took the phone and started punching in numbers and then wrapped it up in some ratty old cloth she pulled from her hoodies pocket. "I hope you're not too attached to this phone" she said as she rolled down the window.
she caught herself again around another corner and this time when she grabbed her wrist she started screaming obscenities while laying on the floor of the car. "I'm gonna kill that creepy b*****d" she said through gritted teeth. She picked up her knife and gingerly slipped it back up her sleeve and then wiped away a tear. She looked down at the phone that was laying on the floor of the car. "we need to toss that thing somewhere where it will stay for a couple hours."

"Let me." Nixie took the modified cell rolled down her window. Aiming carefully, she lobbed it into a street trashcan. It landed perfectly, and Austin didn't even have to slow down. Nixie dusted her hands off and rolled up the window. "So, this creepy b*****d. Do you want to kill him when he comes for us at the airport or was that a rhetorical statement since, by your own account, he coerced you into unethical action and obviously is not a believer in fair play."

Kaori shot Nixie a glare, but the effectiveness was less than satisfactory due to the tears in her eyes. "Don't patronize me." She said angrily through her teeth. "I do what I have to do to survive. Everyone does. 'Fair play' doesn't exist in my line of business just like it doesn't in his." She looked down at her injured paw "But I plan to pay him back for this."
At that very moment her stomach growled. "I guess now would be an inconvenient time to drive through a fast food restaurant?... " She gave a short laugh and winced at another sharp corner.

Nixie caught Austin's eye in the rear view mirror. He knew what she was thinking and shook his head slightly. Of course he didn't approve of her intentions, but she didn't pay him to approve. Actually, she didn't pay him at all. "We have some provisions in the airplane," she replied, still as cool as a sea cucumber. "And I'm sure you'll have a better chance of enacting your revenge if you stay close to his target. Namely, me. The person I want to kill right now is already dead. I can't believe that Sovenn--strike that, I can believe that he would associate with those sorts. I'd settled most of his debts to the best of my ability, but they seem to think I have access to some leverage that they want back. If I did have it, I'd throw it back to them. Maybe I'll find it as we search and sell every one of the narcissistic bugger's estates."

"Well how 'bout that... You're pretty forward aren't you?" Kaori turned her attention back to Nixie and smiled. "Sounds like a pretty good deal for you. The people hunting you go away and you get your lost treasure back to boot." She cocked her head to the side and raised an eyebrow. She took a little while to measure Nixie up and then said "but..." She closed her eyes and let her head droop as she sighed. Then, she looked up at her again. "I guess I could stick around for dinner at least."

"When you've been married 10 years to a man who never says what he really means, honesty and direct speech becomes both a defense mechanism and a way to drive him absolutely up the wall," Nixie replied. Austin made a few more turns and then pulled up to a security boot. "Prince-Hughes to depart immediately," he told the security guard. "And there's some paparazzi jerks following us." "No problem, cowboy," the security guard replied as he let them through the gate. Austin drove to the hanger and jumped out to open Nixie's door. "We'll be in the air in 10 minutes, ma'am," he said.

Kaori opened the door on her side and hopped out of the car. She closed the car door awkwardly with her left paw and then turned to look back the way they came. "Do you think those guards will buy us ten minutes?"

"Even thugs have a little trouble with airport policy," Austin assured her. "Now, can we get on the plane please?" Nixie patted Kaori's arm as she walked directly to the small private aircraft. It was painted a painfully bright orange with black fish leaping frantically its entire length. "Of all the things said about him, Sovenn was never accused of having taste," Nixie teased gently, gesturing to the plane. Austin hustled the girls on the plane and then rushed to the cockpit where he started going through all the checks.Inside the plane was the model of fine European luxury--obviously Nixie's contribution. Nixie pulled out two bottles of water and a bowl of assorted berries. "I'm afraid that all I have is fruit and peanuts--unless of course you want to arm-wrestle Austin for his buffalo wings," she offered. She put the drinks and fruit on a table destined to hold on to anything placed on top. Then she sat beside the table and opened the water. "Ladies and ladies, we are about to take off, so hold on to your knickers," Austin's voice cam over the PC as the plane was taxied onto the runway.

"Knickers?" She asked. "He really is a cowboy..." She wiggled her nose and gave the fruit and nuts a glare. Then, she strongly considered arm wrestling Austin for his buffalo wings. After giving the cockpit door a glance, she turned back to the nuts and fruit and, with a resigned sigh, she started to pick at the berries.
"So..." she said after swallowing a blueberry whole, "where are we going exactly?"

"Switzerland," Nixie replied.
The plane accelerated and slowly lifted into air. Nixie looked out the window and saw a group of frustrated men back in the hanger. She smiled but there was no humor in it.
"I'm selling the Swiss Chalet just after I tear it apart," she told Kaori. "Mind helping me with that? I'll find you a better dinner. Maybe fish?"

Kaori raised her eyebrows at the mention of fish. She looked down at the half eaten strawberry she was holding and set it down on the table. She turned to the drinks and picked up one of the ones that had a straw. "I'll need to know what you're looking for in order to be of any help to you..." She popped the straw into the drink and then sniffed it.
