"Not the photos themselves but.. hmm.. We must be seen and photographed because it's expected. It's part of the prom tradition! I don't, hmmm, care much for any of it myself.." He giggled and scratched his new beard again. "I suppose I don't understand what it matters what others think... but since my father is paying and I want everything to be perfect, I will do all that is necessary." His head bobbled heartily to his conviction to do this event 'right'. "Oh wouldn't it be wonderful? The ghouls and their dates!" He was already imagining the pose that would frame the best and hoo-ed happily. "I bet the ghouls would like it!"

Petro listened and realized that as enthusiastic as Ulmuka was for the whole photographs thing, there was a snag if the other boil was interested in having the tikbalang and Needle's sister along with it. "Ain't in my Clan's customs to have vehicles as we travel on foot. 'M not sure how Lattice'n me'd get to y'r house from school. Could carry her all the way, though." Tro suggested, looking dead serious as he says this. He wasn't about to ask the other boil for a ride, unless it was for the sake of his date.

"Oh!" Muka chirped curiously and touched his chin in silence for a moment. "We will take it here! There is usually a photographer present for photos. There have been at the past dances." If not, all it took was a little bit of money and a few words to his father, and he could have one brought. "This way you won't have to make the tip. It would be too far to walk and you want the ghouls' dresses to stay intact!" Muka actually forgot the other's serious demeanor a moment, the vibes of 'do not touch', and clapped him excitedly on the shoulder. Muka was giggling again and almost bounced in place. "I've thoroughly enjoyed planning for this event. I never had much of a knack for anything but I seem to be rather good at it!"

Petro vaguely recalled seeing photographers at last year's Prom, giving Muka that much more credibility. After all, Tro himself hadn't even heard of the event until last year. Maybe it was in Needle's best interest to experience it with someone who actually knew what they were doing. Of course, this also meant the tikbalang wanted Lattice to share the experience as well.
"Y' sound like y' know a whole bunch about Prom stuff. Y' mind if me and Lattice tag along after we get the photos?" he asked, going straight to the point.

"OH!" Muka clapped him on the shoulder again before retracting his hand to just clap normally. "That sounds fantastic! I think everyone would enjoy the company!" Muka's phone buzzed in his pocket and his usual crescented grin seemed to sag as he read the message, poking the device awkwardly with his taloned fingers. After he stuffed it back into his pocket his grin was strong as ever. "I'm so glad you came to visit, Mr. Petro!" He offered his hand for a shake. "I think we will give the ghouls a wonderful prom experience!!"

The tikbalang felt no awkwardness about the contact, actually it was something that reminded him of home when his Uncles and male cousins would sock each other on the shoulder or the more gentle claps on their backs. The owl boil was starting to seem alright to Tro but he wasn't completely comfortable with him. After all, the other boil wore an awful lot of clothes.
"'S good then! Gonna let Lattice know about. Oh! Might end up having my friend join us too," the tikbalang added, remembering another monster boil. He however made a confused and mildly amused face at the honorific Muka used as Petro accepted the proffered hand. "Y' don't gotta use Mister with me. Petro'd do." No, he wasn't comfortable enough to suggest the owl boil use his preferred nickname. Maybe if Needle or Lattice says Ulmuka could, then he would more than gladly oblige. "Heh, hope so. And hope y' get to do the uh stuff y' need to help y'r father's reputation."
What? It was only polite to wish him well.

"The more the scarier!" Muka happily hooted. He listened intently, staring, when Petro expressed that the 'Mister' wasn't necessary. It was something he did automatically but would try to keep in mind that it was unnecessary. "Thank you Petro." He nodded. "I hope it goes well too. I walked up to him and I said 'Father I will be planning my own prom and I will not let you take control of it and it will be wonderful and a success.'" Muka wagged his finger. "So I hope it's done well or he may not let me make my own plans again!" He giggled but perhaps it wasn't a funny matter, to have such a controlling parent?

The tikbalang gave a grateful smile that Ulmuka didn't object to him dragging his best friend along. This was gradually making him less anxious about the owl boil and the fact that he was going with the ghoul that made Petro feel... strange. And thus, he could listen with a more sympathetic ear. Or as sympathetic as Tro was capable because on the one hoof, Tro knew what it was like to have a source of authority dictating one's every move. But on the other hoof, he also knew that if the Clan's future was at stake, the individual had to give way and make sacrifices. But the owl boil's situation sounded more like the former rather than the latter as it involved only his father.
In the end, Tro could only share his own experiences. As different and unrelated as they are. "Huh. My itay only told me to make sure I took care of the ghoul 'm going with. My mama just sent me a bolt of cloth for my formal bahag," he scratched at his chin in thought. Cultural differences, indeed!

Ulmuka, thankfully, was a little smarter than he seemed to be. Flighty, detached, bird-brained sometimes. But he was a little more clever than he even gave himself credit for and the strange words that the boil used didn't confuse them. He just used context clues and substituted other things. "Well that was nice! I haven't seen my mother since I was a scareling.. and itty bitty one." He giggled. "But my father has always emphasized how important it is to treat ghouls properly. I have been taught all the rules!" At least when it came to high society manners. They may not matter in the school very much but at home he was not allowed to get those wrong for fear of family embarassment!

The tikbalang canted his head in concern and possibly mild horror at the boil's casual admission. "Why ain't y' seen y'r mama for that long?" The idea of being separated from his mother had always weighed heavily on Petro but it was what his Clan wanted of him and it was what she wanted of him. But that had only been a few years ago and he wrote to her whenever he could so they weren't completely cut off from each other. Why yes, the topic of conversation seems to have taken an odd turn.

"Well strix are very solitary, I am told." He wasn't, of course, but he hadn't been raised like that. "My father is a demon and has many many children so he raised me." Muka grinned happily. In retrospect, it was probably better. He enjoyed his comfortable lifestyle!
