He words took immediate effect and Left Behind was satisfied with the attention. The Totoma settled down patiently this time, listening to the sounds of the two does at work. A face appeared amongst the twigs and leaves, and he was instantly charmed Poison’s soft, sincere features. He rumbled a soft sound of reassurance. "Don’t fret. I will consider this a lesson to watch where I am going in future."

"Um," she said, with rising panic as she checked the remaining interlocks - they formed rather a cage over the Totoma now, "I don't understand...they should all have come undone at the same ti - OH. Ah. I see. The correct deployment was made irregular by the uncalculated height. N-no need to worry, I'll figure this out in a shake." Her jittery movements rather belied that conviction, but she bustled on.

Dark was not especially fussed. She had seen many traps go wrong in her day - and the tinkerer was so clever, surely she would solve the puzzle sooner rather than later. She could see much more of their mysterious friend now, imposing even as he lay bound in the mud. She gave him an encouraging smile and looked around to see what she could do. "Oh," she stepped over, "I can see the vines now." Carefully worrying at the tough fibres, she went about setting his limbs free.Ruriska Poor guy. XD I figure Little Poison can admit defeat soon and he can bust outta there once his limbs are free.

"That's the way." Left Behind said approvingly as Dark got to work on the vines. He was making his own calculations now that some of the branches had been shifted and once he had at least one leg free to work, the rest would be easy enough. Jun D I think being stuck in the mud for a bit will be well worth the prize in the end. xD

A little - just a little more - there. Dark bit through the last of the bindings and stepped back triumphantly. "Your legs are free, my friend!" she informed him gladly, "the vines were like the branches, interconnected, once one was broken, the rest came apart well. Surely a clever set-up for a quick release?" she turned to the working doe admiringly, "you really are a marvel, trap-maker!"

"Um. Yes. About that. Just one small problem." Her voice was as small as the problem was not. Her eyes were full of shame, shame and defeat. "I hadn't allowed for the misalignment of the lattice in the event of different dimensions and the resulting aberrations are beyond my current computations...which is to say..." her voice got smaller still, "I can't figure it out right now. Sorry. I will though! I'll just have to rework my equations, I promise I'll get you out, I'm so sorry!"Ruripie XD! Behind is such a stud!

"Ah. That is much better Stand back my friends!" He shifted experimentally, rolling sideways. "These branches will now meet the full Totoma force!" Left Behind chuckled. He maneuvered, got his hooves steady beneath him, and pushed. The latticework of branches and vines simply crumbled as he rose up. Sharp sticks caught and scraped against his side, but he hardly noticed it with his thick hide. He shook vigorously, removing and scattering anything that had clung to his back, and then stomped his way free of the trap remains. "I am afraid you will have to make another from scratch."

Dark gasped, then laughed with delight as he rose like a force of nature and devastated his makeshift cage. "That is wonderful strength!" she cried, trotting over with a congratulatory toss of her head and brushing the last of the stray twigs off his pelt, "why, I do believe you would have broken free of it all in time, with or without us working so!"

WOW.
Little Poison had thought.
WOW.
And possibly 'woof!' And privately also added a note that perhaps rocks had to be introduced to the model for stronger predators.
But mostly WOW.
It took a moment or two before her wide-eyed gaze lost that liquid sheen of awe, but finally she got ahold of herself and inclined her head before them with humility: "I have caused you much trouble with my errant work. Is there anything that I may do in recompense?"Ruriska I AM GOING TO RUN AROUND SCREAMING "These branches will now meet the full Totoma force!" FOR THE REST OF THE DAY

"There is no need for repayment." He looked quite pleased at the mess he had made of the cage, casually shoving a branch aside with a massive hoof. "However, my time spent trapped has left me quite hungry. If one or both of you could direct me to good hunting ground, I would be grateful. But first…" He began moving towards the water, intent on getting that long denied drink. One look back indicated that they were welcome to follow and he would be pleased to get to know the two of them better. He would need friends in this new world, and they would be a brilliant start. ALSO FINISHED NOW.
And Behind has made some good friends. Hahaha.
